Truely a fantastic place. The place is very clean and has everything you need for a vacation. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and hope to return myself. Ketut couldn't have done more to make my stay more pleasant.

The house was quite spacious right next to rice fields and part of the local community which also means the location is somewhat out of town. The neighboring family were very welcoming and we really appreciated their effort and hospitality. Good for families or couples. There were also scooters available at a very good rate. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much!

Staying at Gek & Ketut places' was one of the best part of my 6 months journey. The house is exactly as described, no surprise except for the stunning view of the rice field which is indescribable. The little village of Bona is such a cool place to meet locals and to eat amazing food at the Bona or Gianyar market near by. Also, Gek is a real family chef, she's cooks like a goddess. Staying with this family was such a bless. I'll overly recommend you to book if you are a calm adventurous traveller who's looking for precious time to learn about Balinese culture. I didn't met Susan cause she was in the States when I was there. Well, Gek & Ketut are the reals who are doing everything except the booking. For fellow travellers, hope you will enjoy this place as I enjoyed it !

Susan was an AMAZING host. She was easy to reach and get in contact with and so incredible helpful. Yes the house does have an outdoor kitchen so other reviews mention it gets wet when it rains, but even with the rain we experienced we never noticed the kitchen flooded or anything. There are tons of food stalls close by, a convenience store maybe 100 meters away, Ketut will even organize a moped for rent!! It was the perfect place to get some R&R as well as some work done. Ketut and Gek (neighbors) are also incredibly kind and will take you to some local ceremonies if you want (it was one of our favorite parts!!) and cook you meals for a small fee. Overall, this was awesome and we are already planning our next trip back!

We stayed at Susan's place for 4 nights and we really enjoyed it. If you are looking for something basic and authentic, you definitely have it here. The wi-fi works perfectly. The view is great. The family next door are really friendly and they can cook some delicious food for a small fee. As other have written the place needs some cleaning. Overall we would recommend this place, especially if you are looking for authentic, rural and tranquil experience!

Thanks for the feedback Nanna! Always appreciate that, especially since I am not there. Had Lusi do a good cleaning after you left so hopefully it is in better shape now!

Staying here in Bona really grew on me, and by the end I was very sad to leave. The family really made my stay memorable, they were so incredibly hospitable and warm! I was lucky enough to be here during some major Balinese holidays, and they included me in the festivities. This place is advertised well - it's certainly for the adventurous. It's far off the beaten path, and taxi drivers and locals in Ubud were dumbfounded that I was staying out here. I didn't get around to renting a scooter myself, but I got rides from the family when they went into Ubud for work, and I hired the daughter to take me to the beach, waterfall, and market. With Bona, there wasn't a ton to see, it was a relatively quiet space and I took it often as an opportunity to just "be." There wasn't a ton of places to walk - though there is a beautiful little path down the row of cornstalks. Locals were friendly and chatted it up with me when I passed by, although some the dogs on the street would bark at me a bit - which is a bit unnerving for me (i found them more "territorial" than dogs in central Ubud, for instance.) The food options were very limited - getting to the market (via a ride) was most essential for me for things like fresh fruit. I took advantage of paying the family for breakfast and dinner each day - their meals were very satisfying. They practically jumped at any request I made with promptness and honor. (I miss them already!) The house has a nice artistic vibe to it. As mentioned in another comment, the kitchen does get flooded with any rain. The house certainly had a feeling of being in the village - it's not a hotel (and it could use a really thorough deep clean throughout- though the towels/sheets were freshly laundered.) I had a really nice hot shower one day, but cold showers for the remaining days. I recommend this stay to someone looking for an authentic Balinese experience!

So happy you had a great time and a local experience! Thanks for the feedback about the hot water. And yes, the kitchen is a chalkenge in heavy rain!

Susan's house is the perfect little getaway from the hectic side of Bali and have time to yourself. Ketut and Gek are awesome and will help with all your needs. If you are a surfer and like Keramas it's only 10 minutes by scooter and Ubud is only 20 minutes in the other direction. Apart from that the location is quite secluded but I believe this is the beauty in it. The rice field are so peaceful with awesome sunsets. Ketut and Gek cook your meals for a very small fee and the food is great quality home cooked Indonesian food. I planned on staying a full month but had to leave quite early on unfortunately but would have loved to stay the full term. Come find yourself again at this place and enjoy a home away from home. PS having only stayed in aircon rooms I was a little worried about the fan only but it is so cool and really fresh air, you will love it.

I am co-ordinating these houses for my Balinese family who will be hosting you.

I have visited Bali since 1991 and lived here since 2001, mostly in this house in Bona. My passion is traveling and energy healing and I do that as much as possible, preferring to stay in local places and get to know the people.
