Just 5 mins from Middlebury, this apartment easily sleeps 4 people in the 2 queen beds; one on main floor and one in loft. Make yourself at home in the full size kitchen and enjoy the stunning mountain views. Bathroom has separate shower and bathtub.
One of the wonderful things about this apartment is the expansive view of the Green Mountain National Forest that also includes the local farmers' hay & corn fields, their grazing pastures, and the old hedgerows. In addition, the wildflower meadows and transitional wetlands make great wildlife habitat and add color to the landscape. Enjoy all of this from the deck while relaxing in the two rocking chairs.
If you want to avoid the restaurant crowds, cook your own dinner where you have the choice of eating on the deck or inside. Both dining tables seat 4 people each.
I like to stock the kitchen with staples you may need in small quantities.
You can expect coffee & tea, salt & pepper, flour & sugar, oil (olive & vegetable), vinegar (balsamic & red wine) and basic spices like garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes.
In the bathroom you'll find the basics like towels, soap & bubble bath, shampoo & conditioner, cotton balls & Q-tips, hair dryer.
This apartment is part of a large custom-built home. The entire apartment is on second floor and can be accessed privately with an outdoor stairway.
In times of inclement weather, the entrance of the main house is available.
The house is located just ½ mile off the main road (Rt. 30), down a private drive, at the end of the road. It is a secluded setting, but enjoys very easy access to Middlebury, even in winter.
Guests are welcome to walk the paths in the fields or the road to enjoy the property and stretch their legs. People in the main house come and go throughout the day and are happy to say hello and chat a bit if they have time, but I like to reserve the front & back porches for their use and enjoyment.
Guests may use the laundry room upon request (so we can ensure the washer/dryer is available), otherwise we ask you observe the privacy of those living in the main house.
Interaction with guests
Either I or my property manager will greet you, get you set up, answer any questions you may have and then leave you on your own. We're always happy to help with information, directions, and recommendations about the area. Also, we respond quickly to any questions or problems that may occur with the apartment via text, cell or email.
Other things to note
In this location, wildlife comes in many sizes. Expect to see and/or hear, deer, coyotes, wild turkeys, fox, rabbits and squirrels. You may also hear rifle shots in the distance during the Fall hunting season. Once in awhile, during the summer, the smells from the local farms let us know they are busy fertilizing their fields, but that is rare.
Depending on the time of year some insects like to find their way inside, no matter how diligent we are. We think this is a small price to pay for enjoying such a special corner of the world. But in any case, I provide a variety of products and suggestions to help deal any unwelcome visitors.
The first rule is to relax and enjoy yourself.
The second one is to treat this apartment like it's your home-away-from-home. Make yourself comfortable, use the kitchen for just morning coffee or make a whole dinner.
Although it's technically a studio, it can easily handle small gatherings or dinner parties, we just ask you to keep us in the loop about the number of guests you may be inviting. Unfortunately I am unable to invite smokers or pets.
In order to keep the cleaning fee low I'll ask you to leave the kitchen as clean as you find it. Basic cleaning supplies are provided.
From May 24 - 28, 2018 the minimum stay is 3 nights.
I am blessed with a large home, just outside of Middlebury, VT, where I host a few long-term renters and really enjoy the interaction with them when I'm there. They are young professionals who are all smart, responsible, and friendly. I enjoy these shared living experiences and suspect growing up with four siblings was good training for it. When I have space available, I also enjoy hosting Middlebury College parents, alumni, post-doc students, Breadloaf writers, Snowbowl skiers, leaf peepers, wine & beer (& cider) tasters and any other visitor who stops by here.
I am outgoing, curious, and have a wide range of interests. My relationships with friends and family are very important to me so I am often visiting someone in either CA, AZ, IL, MI, or MD during the year. I am an experienced U.S. traveler and have lived and worked in Chicago, LA, Boston, and now DC over the past 20 years. I enjoy gardening, kayaking, running, and yoga.
I enjoy using Air B&B when I travel, it makes for a more interesting and simpler stay most times. As a guest, I am thoughtful, responsible and neat. Depending on the purpose of my trip, I enjoy making & sharing a nice meal and the occasional glass of wine. Other times, I like eating out; spending very little time in a host’s kitchen.
