As many communities in our country, and globally, our neighborhood is undergoing massive gentrification a transition that we have had the
opportunity to share through ethnography, in writing and in documentaries. We are open to share this history of challenge and change through ongoing opportunities for urban planners and activist of many fields from the US and abroad to consider, discuss and share their thoughts and practices that will help working class and hardly working class to survive such massive disruptions to community life.

We also know how to have fun! *Yoga, Poetry, Music and Dancing are all important features of living healthy and supports the practices of living a life of Compassion and Joy! Residents are also welcome to work and feast from our gardens, in season; we love to cook outside! We are always working on public art displays of inspiration and welcome you to join with us, but there is never any pressure to do anything, but rather to enjoy the peaceful vibes of the space and enjoy the D!

Highly recommended. Staying with the Simmons is a unique and wonderful opportunity to experience and learn about the real Detroit. The neighborhood is rich with history, just blocks from the Motown Museum and historic churches where MLK and Malcolm X visited. The Simmons are veteran community activists with a deep knowledge of the city and an inspiring vision for Detroit's future. Our talks over breakfast were illuminating and enjoyable. Don't miss the chance to see their exhibits on African-American history. The buildings are cozy and tidy, and the front porches give a real neighborhood vibe. If you sit out at dusk you're likely to see pheasants and rabbits emerge from the green spaces next door!

I had a fantastic extended stay at the Hush House! Charles was a very thoughtful host- I especially enjoyed having dinner with him on my first night in town. He provided basic breakfast foods, and the house had everything one would need for a comfortable stay. Internet was almost non-existent in my room, but Charles allowed me into his home across the street to use the internet, and he is working on solving that problem. The neighborhood felt safe, although at the moment it lacks many good places for food/groceries. Overall, I'd highly recommend staying here!

Response from Mama Sandra & Baba Charles:
Our guest for two weeks, Brian is a wonderful guest and a great musician who we heard in his performance. Brian is tidy, warm, communicative, and a gentleman in every way. We look forward to his return!
