The neighbourhood

Near the entrance to Bahia de Cienfuegos you can see The Castillo de Jagua, a fortress erected in 1745 for protection against Caribbean pirates. Cienfuegos (La Perla Del Sur), one of the chief seaports of Cuba, is a center of the sugar trade, as well as coffee and tobacco. While sugarcane is the chief crop, local farmers grow coffee.

The city was settled by French immigrants from Bordeaux and Louisiana, led by Don Louis de Clouet, on April 22, 1819. The city was subsequently named Cienfuegos, sharing the name with Cienfuegos, a Captain General in this time, in the island. During the Cuban Revolution the city saw an uprising against Fulgencio Batista and was bombed, on September 5, 1957.

Room is ok. Breakfast and dinner are ok but dinner was expensive. Localisation is vey good- near to atraction but not noisily. Parking is on the street but we have to pay 2 cuc per day. It is not fair because in the offer of this casa parking should be free.

Our stay at Marlene's was so nice! Their guest home on the upper level of their home is comfortable, clean and has a nice open-air room that overlooks the city. Hosts are very sweet and accommodating. Marlene made us a lovely breakfast in the morning as well!

We had a great time at casa Marlene. They are very relaxed and kind people. The room was very good, clean, nice bedroom, great bed and a balcony on both sides. Cleaning every day. The house is well situated, close to both the center and the malecon. Breakfast also very nice. Thanks to Marlene and her husband for making our stay great. Muchas gracias!

Marlene's home was very large, clean and nice, in a safe & quiet neighborhood. Easy walk to the ocean & mail roads. Rooms were big & had air conditioning. Upstairs room has HUGE terrace. She did not speak too much English so it is helpful to speak a little Spanish. Breakfast was magnificent & plentiful. Marlene was a delightful & helpful host - we really enjoyed staying with her and would recommend her place for others.
