The space

Apokoronas is one of the most historic and beautiful areas of Crete, a landscape of wild mountains and fertile valleys. It was the place where emperors and lords of the Byzantine Empire would reside to enjoy the wealth and beauty of the land. In many places the Cretan architectural tradition developed from the 16th century onwards, has been influenced by Venetians.

Lithos, a small traditional house dating from 1800 and open to visitors since 2006 is located in the fine village of Tzitzifes, with close access to roads to the north and the south of Crete. The village has a kafeneion and there are two traditional Cretan restaurants about 700 meters from the house.

Lithos comprises two separate apartments built in local architectural style and offering all modern comforts. The use of natural materials such as wood and stone takes you back to other more simple and romantic times, allowing you to escape from your daily routine.

Both apartments have kitchen, air-conditioning, bathroom and wood-burning stoves for winter. One of them has an old - style oven and a wine press. Outside there is a large vine-covered courtyard and a swimming pool.

Located: Tzitzifes Apokoronou - Chania (28 km from Chania, 32 km from Rethymnon)

We had a wonderful time in Michalis's House! The little house was really clean and confortable, we enjoyed the pool a lot and the nice terrasse as well. With the help of Michalis we found our way to the house quite quickly. If you need some rest, a peaceful and lovely place to spend your holidays for a good price, this is for you!

We have spent 3 weeks going from 1 Air BnB to the other in Crete and we always have been touched by the warm and generous welcome of our Cretan hosts. Except for this one. No one to welcome us, just a piece of paper stuck to a door with "wilkomen" written on it. We actually never met our hosts but they surely have seen us since there is a security camera permanently filming the courtyard and pool area. There are actually two appartements touching each other and all the outside area, which isn't big, is shared. Be careful : The pictures on the website are of both appartements, and you don't know which one you get before you arrive. We got the smaller one which was rather small indeed. In all or Air BnB house in Crete we were welcome with a basket of fruit, a bottle of raki, sweets, bread... But in this one, there was nothing, not even a bottle of water or salt or sugar. Tzitzifes, where the house is located, has nothing particular to it and it's taverna is the only bad taverna we ate in, as all the others went from decent to delicious. This being said, it's a convenient spot to explore the amazingly beautiful region of Chania. And there is an amazing taverna in Vamos (15mn drive away) called Taverna Sterna where you will want to go back for a feast every night.

Michalis' place is awesome! If you are looking for a relaxing and quiet place, don't hesitate to stay at Lithos. We felt like real Cretans in the lovely town of Tzitzifes. The surroundings are amazing and we rapidly felt in love with the food in the local restaurants nearby and the hospitality of the neighbors. We also enjoyed a lot the (URL HIDDEN) is the best way to relax after a trip to Elafonisi beach or the Imbros Gorge. Michalis is very kind and attentive and gave us some tips to enjoy even more our stay. If you are planning to visit Crete I highly recommend this accommodation.

Only stayed here for one night but a really nice place. Had everything we needed, cooking facilities etc. The property itself was very spacious with really high ceilings and lots of nice original features. The pool is really nice and there is a lovely area outside for dining/relaxing. It's pretty easy to drive past mind, we just pulled over in the village and found it by foot which didn't take long. It was on the first left bend coming into the village if you are approaching from the west (there is a little church opposite). There is also a good taverna called To Rizitiko a 5 minute walk out of the town which is worth checking out. As a side note, you will need a car if you plan on staying here. Recommended!

A truly magical place, with a charming terrace, a beautiful old stone home that stays fresh all day, and an amazing pool that we had a hard time leaving. We highly recommend this place for a quiet and lovely stay, beaches and villages are easily reachable by car (but not by foot !), the view around is beautiful. We had a wonderful time !

The house was as expected and the photos were accurate. It was neat and tidy. The pool and outside area was lovely. House was a little hard to find however with the help of some locals we managed to locate it! If staying here make sure you bring the basics like salt etc as this was not there. The village is quiet and the house is a nice getaway from busy Chania. would recommend for a romantic getaway.

I didn't have the chance to meet Michalis, but he made everything so easy to find in advance. His communication was excellent and his house was so quaint and beautiful. The outdoor pool and patio are stunning. The town itself is adorable. Just make sure you bring any food you may need with you and have gas before arriving. The loft bed gets pretty warm at night as there is no window or fan upstairs.
