Nestled away amongst several acres of lush woodland in the heart of the Breton countryside is the wonderfully charming gîte of Moulin de Kerdunic.

A former watermill restored into a stunning gîte, the property boasts beautifully landscaped gardens with an array of native woodland flowers; a picturesque pond where you can see small trout leaping from the water; a natural stream running across the gardens and a small waterfall flowing down one side of the gîte.

The space

Nestled away amongst several acres of lush woodland in the heart of the Breton countryside is the wonderfully charming gîte of Moulin de Kerdunic.

A former watermill restored into a stunning gîte, the property boasts beautifully landscaped gardens with an array of native woodland flowers; a picturesque pond where you can see small trout leaping from the water; a natural stream running across the gardens and a small waterfall flowing down one side of the gîte; and a large rustic-style woodshed holding logs for the indoor and outdoor fires. The remains of the former watermill also provides an additional feature to the property and a little piece of history too.

Guest access

With the property itself is a downstairs open plan kitchen, dining area and living area, with a comfy corner sofa, TV par satellite and DVD player. Wi-Fi is also available (login details will be provided at the outset). The living area also has a working wood burning fire. Firewood is available close to the fire as well as in the woodshed which is just a 2 minute walk from the gîte. The kitchen has everything you need, including pots, pans, plates, cutlery, a microwave, oven with electric hobs, fridge-freezer and washing machine.

On the second floor there are 2 double bedrooms with ample storage space and a large bathroom with a shower, bath and double sink. On the third floor is an additional bedroom with 2 single beds to accommodate more guests. The sofa in the livingroom can easily transformed to another double bed.

There are two barbecue areas outside the gîte, as well as a clearing to the back of the property where you can have a bonfire. Sun loungers overlook the pond and a picnic table and bench can be found directly outside the kitchen.

Dogs are also very much welcome and will love the private walks in the woodland paths or lazing around in the sun within the landscaped gardens.

Interaction with guests

You will have both the gîte and the accompanying land to yourself with total privacy. If, however, at any point during your stay you should need me I am only a 5 minute walk away in my other small property nearby. The gîte is accessible via a private road and there is parking immediately next to the house itself. I am on hand to help with directions or recommend many of the stunning nearby beauty spots to explore, either by road or by sea.

Other things to note

Moulin de Kerdunic is the perfect base from which to explore Brittany. A short 10 minute drive from the small fishing town of Douarnenez; with it’s steep, narrow cobbled streets that have changed very little over the past century, a mix of traditional and modern shops, markets and maritime festivals, it’s well worth a visit.

There really is nothing in Brittany quite like Moulin de Kerdunic. A real oasis of peace and tranquillity with the whole of the Finistère peninsula on your doorstep ready to explore. If you have any special requests they can almost always be accommodated so please drop me a line if you have any questions.

We have spent two wonderful weeks at Moulin du Kerdunig. We couldn't have anticipated a warmer welcome from its owner, Werner, nor could we have hoped for a lovelier, quieter setting. The generous amount of beautiful gardens allowed the children to play outdoors and explore to their hearts content while the comfort of the open fire gave us a cosy retreat in the evenings that we thoroughly looked forward to after a day outdoors of exploring Finistere's seemingly limitless beaches. We visited a lot of them, mostly on Werner's excellent recommendations, but there are still many we look forward to visiting next year!

This place is AMAZING! Our family of four were made to feel very welcome by Werner. He showed us the property inside and out. The place was warm and inviting with the fire already going, nice on a cool night. Such a great location. We had a lovely evening by the bonfire. Werner went out of his way to help us feel comfortable and we if we make it back to France we will certainly stay here again.

No review could ever do this wonderful cottage/gîte justice. It is the perfect place to stay, tucked away in its own private grounds (over several acres of woodland and landscaped gardens all to yourself). A real wood fire inside, two barbecue spaces and a bonfire site outside (with ample supplies from the on-site woodshed), a pond, stream and waterfall lapping gently past the French doors down one side of the property. The house is perfectly appointed. Fantastic open plan living, dining and kitchen area, with everything you need. Two spacious double bedrooms and a spacious loft conversion with two single beds. Douarnenez is only a 10 minute drive from the house and has everything you need - a boulangerie, patisserie, boucherie, traditional and modern shops and even a few large supermarkets meaning you have the best of the peaceful rural life, with the convenience of a local town for everything you need It's always difficult to tell from photos, but you have complete space and privacy here. Werner, the host, also owns a small house just a 5 minute walk away and he is on hand when you need him, but very much respects your privacy if that's what you want also. Werner is the kind of host Airbnb was made for. Friendly, generous, only too happy to help. After a 10 hour drive from Calais, arriving at 10 at night, Werner was waiting with a glass of wine and when hearing we hadn't found a shop open to stop at and buy supplies, he ran off to his other house, returning with some fresh pork chops and potatoes (delicious). We arrived having only communicated by email and left firm friends with both Werner and his lovely girlfriend, Jacqueline. Believe me - we looked at over 100 properties in Brittany to find the perfect one - and we did! This is a truly unique place - you'll know what I mean when you've been there. We will certainly be returning!
