BEWARE!!!!!! I was so looking forward to spending a few days with my family in one of my favorite beaches, Asbury Park. The description of this property stated, "beautiful, updated Victorian" The reviews were all positive and glowing. The pictures looked beautiful ....then the nightmare began.... My family arrived to find a shabby, run down house in a very sketchy area of Asbury Park. It was right across from the local Salvation Army.. All the houses in the neighborhood looked like they were falling apart and there looked to be illegal activity in the neighborhood. The first thing we noticed was the the front screen door was broken and hanging on by threads... The furniture on the from porch looked very old and dirty... The house was hot and stale... There was no air conditioner . Two bedrooms upstairs had very small air conditioners. I wrongly assumed that for almost $400 /night in New Jersey were it can get very hot and humid in the summer, the house would have Air conditioning. The stairs were very steep and the carpet on the stairs was ripped and dirty. There were exposed wires all over the house . Ants were crawling in the kitchen and on of our guests found a cockroach in the bathroom sink... I could go on and on about the horrors my family and I encountered. This may be a good choice for a bunch of young high school kids or college age kids who want to pack a bunch of guests in a shore house and party . It certainly is well below any kid of standards I would expect to stay in .

We really appreciated Martin renting to us very last-minute and being very responsive, both in booking and during our stay. We enjoyed the location within close proximity to the beach and “downtown” Asbury Park. That said, we felt that the house is just not Airbnb ready. There is a difference between ‘character’ and ‘run-down.’ Possibly because we booked only a few days prior to arrival, the house was not clean (this included suspect bed coverings and dirty floors). We occupied three of the rooms and the mattresses were unfortunately very uncomfortable. There was some confusion over whether there was a washer/dryer (I see they are still listed), but Martin cleared that up very quickly. Finally (and our own fault for not looking closely at the listing), the entire downstairs area doesn’t have A/C, and we happened to arrive during a heat wave. The house certainly has a lot of character, but we felt that some key improvements are crucial. Unfortunately, I would warn against families with young children from booking this space until further updates are made. There are some hazards, example broken glass in a windowsill, chipping paint, extremely steep stair case, and areas where flooring isn't fully done. We are still grateful that Martin was able to accommodate us at last minute and we had a fun weekend in sad ury Park.

The place was clean and looked just like the pictures. We had forgotten some essentials like cups, plates, and shot glasses but they were available for us there. There's a lot of space and it's perfect for a group of friends/ family looking for a beach getaway.

Considering that I found this house at the very last minute, I couldn't have been happier with everything. The house has all the amenities you could ask for a weekend at the shore. Martin was also very communicative and wonderful to work with. I would definitely book this house again in a heartbeat!

I love the history, proximity, trains, bars, music venues, and architecture of Asbury Park. The City by the Sea has everything you need to have a good time. Eat, drink, and be merry!
