PLEASE DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE WE DID - My friend and I rented for two days but we left after the first night, since we felt pretty uncomfortable/unsafe in the place - (1) there are 3 german shepherd dogs that roam the property and that are fairly menacing for guests (2) the breakfast is in a tiny and odd room and consists of coffee in a pot and old bread (3) the rooms are definitely clean, although they smell like moth balls and are decorated not in a charming way but more like nobody has bothered to move any furniture for 50 years (4) when we arrived we were castigated for not knowing where to go, and despite being told that check-in was at 3pm, which is when we arrived, we were placed in a dark room until after 4pm, when the room was finally ready (5) there is no "Catarina," and you will never see these girls that are featured on this listing (6) the room and overall experience was very uncomfortable and it is absolutely overpriced - even if one likes stray dogs, rooms that smell like moth balls and doesn't mind a spartan breakfast, it should probably cost closer to 60 euros per night. There are several other hotels in the area that are similarly priced (we went to Quinta do Pego for our second night, which is incredible and similarly priced to Quinta do Marrocos) - I have a feeling that several people leave early from Quinta do Marrocos given that the infrastructure and service are so substandard. Overall a horrible experience, please stay at one of the other lovely places in the Douro, this place is the absolute worst!

The Quinta de Marrocos is a beautiful and very special place. The accommodation is very clean and comfortable, great beds, lovely rooms, fantastic food of professional quality but with home-cooked care. And of course, great wine! Best of all is the welcome you get from Catarina and the Sequeira family, and the lesson in Port winemaking and the historical portrait of the Douro region that you get from Dom Cesar. Highly recommended. Go there, enjoy, learn, and leave room in your luggage to take back plenty of wine with you!
