About this listing

The space

Longview Ranch is a modern home set atop 187 acres of private land. Originally an industrial workshop, Longview is now a home of modern luxury juxtaposed against dramatic wilderness.

As one of the private ranches on Orr Springs Road, Longview is a perfect hot springs escape, wine country stopover, family vacation, artist gathering or civilized rambling holiday.

While Longview's private grounds provide endless opportunities for adventure, the ranch is just a mile from Orr Hot Springs Resort, where visitors can partake in the resort's day services. A few miles away is Montgomery Woods, a pristine redwood grove. Day trips include Mendocino Village, Anderson Valley's wine country and Hopland.

Longview's gourmet kitchen, two 10 person tables (one indoor, one outdoor) and setting make it well-suited for intimate gatherings around food, both in preparation and eating. An extensive collection of Heath dinnerware - Sausalito's celebrated mid-century ceramics - ensures feasting in modern style. A picnic lunch on one of the property's scenic outlooks is also highly recommended. Ukiah's Food Coop and local culture make fresh fixings easily accessible.

Longview is owned by a family with young children, and provides 2 portable cribs, toys and creative endeavors for children of all ages. There is a fort-like bedroom for children to pile into, and each Queen bedroom is large enough to share with children. A 1000 square feet of open studio space is great for messy projects and after dark roller derbies. A huge porch and fenced acre of yard make it easy for parents to let kids run freely. There is also a hilltop fairy ring for picnics, tea parties and tree climbs with views to boot. Longview is baby proofed for electrics, cooking, windows and staircase. Basic First Aid is provided, and Ukiah's hospital can be reached within 20 minutes.

As a commitment to the design, painting and sculpture community in Mendocino, we offer two one-week residencies each year to qualified applicants. Interested parties should send portfolio samples and a letter of intent for use of the ranch during residency.

Lovely, secluded place. Very comfortable and accessible, and fun, too - we never left the property for our weekend trip!

Beautiful location and awesome house. A good place to go if you don't have to leave the house all weekend!

This is a truly magical place to unwind with your friends and family. My group of friends and I loved cooking in this well-stocked kitchen and enjoying drinks watching the sunset. The view is unparalleled to anything I've ever experienced in an Airbnb. Heidi was great at responding to questions and making sure we had everything we needed. A must stay!

We were attending a wedding in the area and looking for a place for 5 adults and an infant. The Longview Ranch was listed by the couple on their webpage so we checked it out. While it is a 30 minute drive into Ukiah on a very narrow and windy road, it was well worth it to be out in the country all by ourselves. We encountered numerous birds, deer, and a brown bear (fortunately just running across the road in front of us). It is very near Montgomery Woods State Natural Preserve which if you haven't walked among the redwoods is a great experience (some in our group had never seen a real redwood). The house itself has everything you need though some of it is a little rough, but hey, you are out in the country all by yourself with only nature to hear and stars to see. Early morning sunrises (if no morning fog) and evening sunsets were beautiful over the surrounding mountains. The biggest surprise was the HUGE playroom with ping pong, arcade basketball, and lots of things to play with (legos, trains, books, hula hoops, play houses, hockey, lacrosse, darts, etc.).

This was our second stay at the ranch, and another fantastic trip. The house and setting are wonderful, and Heidi made us wonderfully welcome again. We'll be sure to come back again.

I am an Industrial Designer and Montessori school teacher. My husband is a floppy-haired Englishman with no apparent end to his talents. We met in London, married in Colorado, had babies in New York and now work in the Bay Area. We are passionate about the wilderness, modern design and creating an amazing space for small gatherings of family and friends. These values are strongly reflected at Longview.
