About this listing
Whether you enjoy the solitude of the quiet valley, relish listening to babbling brook that you drove through on your way into the property, or are relaxing in the hot tub, this private cabin is the best getaway in the Driftless Area.
Our cabin sits on two private acres with a creek cutting through the middle. A curved driveway and vegetation provides ample privacy and seclusion.
Guests can enjoy the entire cabin, including the master bedroom on the main floor, or the loft bedrooms upstairs. The open floor plan allows the entire group to enjoy preparing meals or sitting around the wood stove. Guests have full access to the outdoor fire pit and hot tub.
Interaction with guests
We are always available by phone to answer questions and help our guests. We also have friends available who could help out in a pinch (e.g. jump starts, minor emergencies, etc.)
Our cabin is nestled in a quiet valley just miles from the Mississippi River. The long, winding driveway takes you through the creek and back to the hillside where you will find the log cabin perched at the base of a large hill. Listen to the coyotes chatter at night. Watch the hummingbirds vie for a spot at the feeder. Take a hike in the nearby Nature Preserve or hit the river for some world-class fishing!
The nearest 'burg' is DeSoto, approximately 5 miles away. Guests can buy a few amenities in the local stores in DeSoto. Basic grocery shopping and more essentials can be found in Lansing, Iowa, about 11 miles from the cabin. Viroqua is about 20 miles away and has the most options for shopping, entertainment, medical care, and other services.
Other things to note
Even though there are a few nearby towns, plan ahead and bring essentials. A trip to the store can take 40-60 minutes. It's secluded and wooded. Make sure to add flashlights and bug spray to your packing list in case you want to go exploring after dark.
The full list of house rules is contained in the rental agreement. This isn't just a rental cabin - it's our vacation home, so we expect renters to treat it like our home. We ask renters to respect our neighbors as well as our property and the environment.
CLEANING NOTE: We do not provide bed linens or towels and expect guests to bring their own. We also ask guests to clean the cabin at the end of their stay and take their garbage with when they leave. By having guests police themselves, we can avoid charging a cleaning fee. We provide garbage bags and cleaning supplies, but ask guests to tidy up by sweeping, shaking rugs, and so on.
My wife and I bought our cabin for a peaceful retreat from our busy lives. We really love the setting and the space. This is our personal cabin - not a timeshare or commercial venture. It's well-appointed with our books, movies, music, art, and personal touches. We think it's a special place in a very special region of Wisconsin. We can't wait to share it with you.
