The rooms and photos we thought we were getting was different than expected. The photos show a nice patio with three chairs out front. We did not even see this area with chairs, as we stayed in separate rooms, not the house we reserved in the photos. Tola's family was very kind and welcoming. The people were all smiles, which was nice and welcoming. Tola's family reserved a tuk tuk driver for us, which was nice, because we were able to keep them for our entire trip. We were not prepared for the amount of bugs during our stay. The beds were full of dead bugs each day, we just swept them away, and did our best to forget. One of the guest rooms had a dog climb through a hole in the wall in the middle of the night. We were sleeping and at 2:00 a.m., and when the dog climbed in it was a little scary. After we knew it was a dog, we knew what to expect each night, so it turned out okay. In the end, we ended up leaving a day early. It was just too hot, and there were too many bugs in our beds. I hate to leave a negative review, because the family was so kind, but please be prepared for holes in walls, bugs, spider webs throughout the rooms, and random animals crawling in the room. Lastly, the food was delicious. We received several meals, cold water, and cold towels when we came in from a long day, that was very thoughtful, and a nice touch. Our children (ages 14-16) really enjoyed playing with Tola's children and the neighborhood children. It was a fun experience play with children from another country!

I was a bit nervous travelling to Cambodia as a solo female, but my experience of the country was beautiful, mostly because I stayed at Papaya! From pre-trip communication, to airport pick-up, to assistance arranging tuktuks, to delicious food, Tola and his family looked after me so well. Please be aware, this is a village homestay so there are bugs, and animals, and dust/dirt - but that is all part of the fun!

Tola and his family were very hospitable and opened with us. They tried to do everything to make our staying comfortable. It's nice experience to fill Cambodian lifestyle, to test Cambodian meal and understand local people. It's recommended for openmind travellers. If you are waiting for hotel service it's not your variant.

We have been travelling for 3 months now and this has been our favourite place to stay so far. It is perfect to experience real Cambodian life whilst doubling as a superb base to explore Siem Reap and Angkor Wat. We stayed with Tola and his family in a small village just outside Siem Reap (10 mins drive). Tola is an exceptionally kind man who could not have been a more attentive and generous host. As well as being great company, he arranged our transfers and excursions with local tut tut drivers. All were highly honest, informative and reliable. The accommodation itself is relatively basic and rural. The rooms are clean and have their own bathroom but guests should not expect luxury so don't book on this basis. The quality of the overall experience is why you should stay here, and for us surpassed any high end hotel. Tola's children speak perfect English and are eager to learn and share aspects of their life, village and schooling. We could not have enjoyed getting to know them and learning from them more. The food that Tola's team produce is also an enormous plus. It is authentically Cambodian and absolutely first class, so we decided to eat there every evening (as did our fellow guests) despite the attractions of Siem Reap not being far away. We would love to visit Tola and his family again, and will be thoroughly recommending staying in this village to our family and friends.

I highly recommend anyone traveling to Siem Reap stay with this local family. Everything from the moment I booked this stay was executed perfectly. Tola even sent me messages before arrival with tips and information about Cambodia. Upon arrival at the airport we had a driver waiting for us, Bodith, who we ended up hiring to drive us around all 3 days to the temples of Angkor Wat and beyond for an extremely reasonable price. Tola's family was gracious and welcoming as soon as we arrived. They cooked us local food, sang and danced for us-inviting us to join in, and we enjoyed talking with them about their lives in Cambodia. The children are all an absolute joy to be around-so kind and sweet. The rooms are small but comfortable, and despite the "lack of luxury" out of our two weeks traveling between Thailand and Cambodia our 3 nights at Papaya Village was the highlight of all of it. I 100% recommend this stay to anyone and everyone coming to Siem Reap if they are interested in getting a taste of what life in Cambodia is really like. If we travel through Cambodia in the future we would definitely stay here again without question.

Tola and his family's hospitality will make you feel at home immediately. I had the best time conversing with Tola's 3 children, although it was a short stay, I learned a lot about history and way of living in Cambodia through these 3 smart, kind and friendly children. Tola have made sure that we have everything we needed . My experience in staying with Papaya Village will remain in my heart for a long time and I am very grateful.

Wonderful stay with Tola and his family. Beautiful and charming countryside location, just outside of Siem Reap. Were welcomed and shown around, then had a delicious meal with the family.
