This restored 200 year-old farmhouse (longère) in open countryside not far from the small village of Soudan (with baker’s shop and a very good restaurant l’Orangerie) is our own delightful holiday home.
The house has been completely refurbished but retains its original
French charm with oak beams. It is situated only 30 minutes away from Poitiers Airport (served by Ryanair from Stansted and during the summer months from Edinburgh) and six miles from the interesting town of St Maixent L'École, a stopping point for the TGV. This town has a full range of services , shops and restaurants as well as a bi-weekly market and several supermarkets.
The front garden is filled with apple, pear and cherry trees. There is a full range of garden furniture, table and six chairs, umbrella and for more lazy days a double hammock under the chestnut tree. A west-facing terrace with large sun awning has been added so as to enjoy lazy, sunny days and magnificent sunsets.
Equipment and Comfort
The property is fully equipped with modern appliances: washing machine, gas cooker, dishwasher, microwave, flat screen TV, DVD, CD player and barbecue. With its central heating system and wood-burning stove, the house is available throughout the year. In the garage, there are two adult bikes (one with removable child seat). Additional cycles may be easily hired locally.
There are plenty of books (fiction and non-fiction), CDs, DVDs and games for rainy days and evenings round the fire.
The entire house and gardens are available to all guests.
