Thanks to Iva's delightful parents we were welcomed warmly and made to feel at home straight away at the wonderful Captain's House. The terrace is blissfully breezy in the summer heat, the house is spacious and well equipped with plenty of bathrooms for a family like ours, with teenagers. Milo gave us great advice about where to go, and we even found little gifts of tomatoes and basil plants from the garden when we woke up in the morning! A wonderful experience.

Iva's Mum and Dad met us at the house as they stay next door. They were very welcoming and nice, and provided us with some delicous home grown almonds, figs, tomatoes etc. The house has lots of room and a lovely garden and terrace with a relaxing view. The location allows for a variety of options including the beach at prapratno, mljet, and also orebic, and the coast at drace where there is an excellent and very reasonably priced restaurant.

Milo and Ljube, Iva´s parents, are really wonderful hosts. They care a lot about their guests. Milo helped us more than necessary. He took us to the doctor and he went to the pharmacy for us because our baby was ill. He also made our stay nicer helping to get fresh fish :). Our kids loved him and it was lovely to see him going for almonds or nuts with our son. Our three years son enjoyed that sooo much. The house has an old style, what we loved. But the best thing of the house is the more than beautiful garden and the possibility to take fresh fruits and vegetables (all eco) for our own consume. We had the best ruccola salads ever! Thanks for this unforgettable experience! We keep you in our minds! (our son most)

Staying at the Captains House was the highlight of our European holiday and we can't extend sufficient thanks to the host and her family (next door) for making it such a memorable experience. The quiet location was ideal for relaxing and the garden a real treat. Despite the tranquility there are beaches and a neighbouring village (with a shop and wine and liqueurs) within a short car ride so it really is a good location, and we made daytrips to Korčula, Trstenic, Žuljiana all from here without any grumbling from our 3yr olds. We will be back and thanks for the memories.

The hosts parents are some of the nicest people you would wish to meet. The property matches the description. Broadband is good as well. The location is quiet and rural, but just a few minutes from the two supermarkets in Janjina and five minutes in the car to the coast. The house is wonderful with old wooden floors upstairs and tiles downstairs. The garden is full of a huge variety of fruit and veg which you can help yourself to. The garden also has some wonderful tortoises including some very small ones! You can use the barbeque on one veranda and the other veranda has great views. This is a great location to be able to explore the wider area and the Peljesac vineyards. Ston is 30 minutes away and is a great place to see - you can by mussels and oysters from a small stall in Little Ston (Ston Mali). You can get fish in nearby Srerer, and the vineyards are a must. The ferry to Korcula isn't too far a way, and we would certainly recommend a trip to Mljet if you have a car as the island is beautiful and you can swim in the lakes. Its also well placed for a day trip to Dubrovnik which we did, or even to drive to Mostar to see the bridge - also well worth a visit.

The family of eight -5 children aged 2-10 years with grandmother hanging on found our way to Popova Luka and were welcomed cordialy by Milo and Violetta. The great old house is a beautiful place to stay and practically works out great. Four bathrooms and lots of space and beds were ok. The garden a joy for the children with turtles and plants. The hospitality and sincere helpfullness of the hosts was the best experience and Be Ware ! what you ask for because you will get it! True Dalmatian hospitality leaves nothing to be wanted. We spent a most memorable week and highly recommend Popova Luka to others. Christoffer and Cecilie, Stavanger Norway

UNBELIEVABLE! FANTASTIC! Just to make it clear, this is my first review in 15 years of extensive business and leisure travel. In todays world of marketing - traveling as many other activities brings inevitably some disappointments as you not get what you believed you have seen on the photos or marketing materials. The old captains house in Popova Luka cant be more different to that. We can hardly remember something so much exceeded our expectations. We spent unforgettable 10 days in this house and we have made many photos, but none of them can actually capture the huge charisma of this house. Surrounded by secluded gardens of olive trees, tangerines and laurels you pull out a fresh onion, grab a sprig of rosemary and prepare your risotto or you grill the fresh fish you have bought in the morning from fishermen over the grapevine wood. Or you do nothing. I have brought with me a full Kindle, but never used it. I brought with me my laptop, but never pull it out. I spent days sitting on the terrace in a gentle breeze and just “inhaling” the landscape, the gardens , the house and sipping the best Croatian wines produced virtually next door in the valley. In one of the gardens live about 40 local endemic (and very patient) turtles, so our children turned the very first day to turtle farmers. This 19th century stone house is simply and tastefully furnished and it is decorated by paintings and old photos of ships commemorating this old family of captains. And last, but first of all: the hosts. Great and cordial help of Iva in organizing our trip and fantastic and genuine hospitality of captain Milo and his family made together with the beauty of this house our stay very very special. This house is the true Mediterranean as it once was. So rare! Iva, Ljubica and Milo, our deepest thanks for taking us there. Michal
