Make yourself at home with your German-Austrian hosts and cats in Staten Island! Your clean and safe private room is just in the right distance for a 60 minute commute to Manhattan and also to get some rest at home after a busy day.

The space

The comfy King Size beds in our retro home offer the ideal home base for your New York City trip. Both airbnb guest rooms as well as the kitchenette and the bathroom, which is shared with maximum two other guests, are located on the upper floor of our house.

Maybe the easiest way to help you make a decision is, to list those things most people like or dislike about our listing:

Our guests love:
o to get some rest in a suburban area in reasonable distance to Downtown Manhattan
o the clean and safe home
o the occasional interaction with their hosts
Some of our guests dislike:
o if you have a very light sleep, you might hear other guests sing while taking a shower in the bath room next door
o bathroom, kitchenette with pitched roof and relatively small hallways with steep steps are not perfect for large/tall fellows
o we do not have a microwave
o the location with a relatively long (60 min+) commute to Manhattan and only a few shops in the direct neighborhood

Enjoy your private guest room with west side located windows, that comfortably accommodates 2 guests in total and can be locked. So you can leave your shopping bags at home while you shop more. The guest room is equipped with a dresser, so you can unpack your stuff and put your suitcase under the bed.

The little bathroom and kitchenette is shared with max. 2 fellow airbnb travelers who may stay at the other guest room at the same time. Fresh towels and basics such as shampoo, toilet paper, shower gel, etc. will be ready when you arrive. The bathroom has not very high ceilings and the shower is in a vintage claw foot tub. So larger or taller guests could have difficulties.

Also the little cook-nook is shared. So you can share your favorite places and NYC stories with other airbnb guests at our trendy flea market style place! You will only find a toaster and an electric kettle with some complimentary food, which is more to be considered a "first aid kit" than a breakfast. That gives you plenty of opportunities to prepare different typical American and German meals. Once you are here, we can show you how!

We have carefully collected our vintage, flea market-style, interior like our old fridge that makes our home so cozy. Authentic interiors may inspire you to make a trip to a Brooklyn flea market.

Our home is about 60+ min from downtown Manhattan. This is why we and most of our guests love this place. Of course this is also the reason for a reasonable price. So when it comes to your decision about the location, please make sure you know that our low prices reflect a longer commute to Manhattan than pricier guest rooms. If you don't like to stay in a suburban area, you can find plenty of hip places on airbnb for your NYC experience.

Directly in front of our House we have the bus stop of line S74. It brings you home after your ferry ride from Manhattan. One block down the street you'll find the S74 bus stop towards the ferry.
Then you can take the free 25 minute ride into Manhattan and enjoy the view! On the way you already see the Statue of Liberty and the great skyline of downtown Manhattan. When you arrive, you are just steps from Battery Park, Wall Street and the Charging Bull.
To go to Times Square, Central Park or Empire State Building, just take the subway which is located at the exit of the ferry terminal. Take the 1 Train or the R train uptown.
Hands down, the total commute into Manhattan from our house can take 45 - 60+ minutes.
House > Bus 5 min. + Bus > Ferry 15 min. + Ferry > Manhattan 25 min. (plus waiting time, according to your planning)

Certainly you can also skip the ferry at all and take the Express Bus directly into Manhattan. That brings you directly to Wall Street or Times Square.

Traveling by car? Making a road trip? In New York for business? We have plenty of street parking available around the house and we are conveniently located to Verrazano bridge. What makes your commute to Brooklyn or Manhattan pretty easy! But if you don't find a parking spot when you arrive, ask us!

We also offer airport pick-up/drop-off service for JFK, Newark and LaGuardia airports. If you would like to book this "luxury package", drop us a line and ask if we are available for your flight!

If you prefer to choose our airport pick up service or a taxi to come to our place, we recommend to fly in to Newark airport because it is closer by car.
If you come to our place by public transportation, JFK or LaGuardia may be your best bet because you can use the MetroCard for all means of transport within NYC and don't have to pay extra for the NJ train from Newark.

Basically check-in is 4pm and check-out is 11am. But we are flexible. If you arrive earlier or depart later, just ask us and we can work something out!
A couple of days before you arrive we will catch up with you with some additional information and to make check-in arrangements.

We have a Deli right across the street. If you need a soda or chips, you can walk there in your PJ's.
If you're planning to do a bigger grocery shopping trip, we recommend to stop by Key Food or Western Beef. They are located on the way from the ferry to our house. (see guide book)

Our home is also in convenient distance to the beach. If you would like to relax and spend a day at the beach of Staten Island, just take the bike or bus and enjoy the sun!

To provide young travelers such as startup founders and students with an affordable, clean, safe, comfortable and contemporary place to stay. Located within a reasonable distance to the city center.
We want to prove that a cozy and attractive place to stay doesn't need to cost a couple of hundreds a night.

Please don't forget: We are not offering a luxury resort but we want to offer you the best available guest experience that you can find for the low price you pay.

Come and stay in one of our two airbnb guest rooms in our vintage style house in Staten Island! Your German-Austrian hosts may surprise you with a random selection of our home made pastries :)

Guest access

You will have access to your booked guest room which can be locked with the key you will receive.

Also you will have access to the kitchenette with fridge and to the shared bathroom. And when the weather is nice, please feel free to come to the backyard and enjoy your dinner or breakfast outside!

Wifi access is also free of course :)

Interaction with guests

WE LOVE OUR GUESTS! So whenever Sandra, Silvia (our co-host) and/or I will be present, please feel free to ask us what you always wanted to ask.
If we never bump into each other while you stay, because your sightseeing schedule is so busy, no problem at all, send us a message if you want to know anything.

Other things to note

Whenever there is something that makes you feel uncomfortable or whenever you have a suggestion for an improvement, PLEASE TELL US while you are here so we can try to fix it and make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

Nevertheless, here are some FAQ's you might find useful :)
Q: Why is no trash can in the guest room?
A: Because we would not be able to empty it while you are here and so the trash would probably beginn to smell.
Q: Do you have cats?
A: Yes. Normally they are with us on the first floor. But sometimes they also walk upstairs where our guest rooms are.

- Keine Drogen.

Absolutely amazing value for money. Me and my partner loved the fact it's location , 35 minuets your in lower manhatten , and most of that is taken up by the free staten island ferry which has incredible views to go with it! But when you come home from the hassle and bussle you can actually have a great night sleep in this beautiful home. Perfect. And both Hans and Sandra were very welcoming hosts. If I'm in NYC city again I'll be looking out for these guys.

Hans and Sandra are wonderful hosts who provided us with just about everything we needed during the stay. The room itself was very nice and stayed warm which was great during the winter. The house is about 15 minutes on the bus from the ferry terminal, which is then in turn about 25 minutes from Manhattan. Overall we had a fantastic time and this was made even more so with the hospitality provided by Hans and Sandra. I'll definitely consider returning again the next time I am in NYC.

Response from Hans, Sandra & Son:
McKane, thank you very much for your stay. We are very sorry that you had high temperatures in your room for some nights. I know our rooms come with an A/C. We have them installed only during the summer. But normally in our area we remove the A/C window units on the labor day weekend because the nights are cool. This fall is particularly warm, especially during the night and we should have re-installed the window units before we left for our trip. I'm very sorry you were unlucky and had high temps during the night with no A/C.

Its a really nice place, the location is not perfect, theres quite a bit of bus travel to get there and a surprising number of motorcycles seem to drive past, but after 11pm it gets very quiet. Considering the price for a good private room this close to the city is fine. The room is really pleasant, as was the bathroom. There is a little area to sit and make tea too, though no way to cook anything. I arrived in the evening the first night and they kindly let me use their kitchen for a quick meal, but it didn't seem appropriate to ask again. There are a few places to eat in the area, but if your staying here I would suggest getting your meals in Manhatten. Overall they kept to themselves and I worked away doing my own thing. One fun thing though is the daily Staten Island ferry, which is like a breath of fresh air after a long day in the city. If your looking for a nice place to stay while exploring the city for a few days I absolutely recommend this.

Their place is great. It was perfect for our stay in Staten Island. The room was so clean and they left out a treat for us. You have access to breakfast in the cute kitchen and there's a shared bathroom for guests. It was an awesome experience in a very trendy apartment. Thank you!
