The apartment is located in a really wonderful area. It's quiet, beautiful, and convenient all at the same time. It benefits from an abundance of natural light, which I appreciated a lot. The place was well-equipped with kitchen, cleaning, and bedding necessities. However, the fact that there is no bathroom within the apartment does reduce its value significantly and proved to be more inconvenient than I had initially predicted. As a chambre de bonne, a single room typically for servants, the price is much higher than it is in fact worth, I must say.
One of the largest issues that I encountered was the noise from the building's collective heating system. Since there are pipes inside of the apartment itself, I was able to hear some type of liquid running through them all night, which disrupted my sleep for many nights. In addition, the pipes and / or radiator emitted an incredibly noisy clicking sound (for lack of a better term) that frequently startled me in the middle of the night, since it would occur sporadically, and prevent me from being able to fall asleep again.
Although Valerie was quite friendly in the very beginning and end of my stay, when I began to bring various issues to her attention (regarding payment and other apartment-related topics) I felt that she was slightly irritated, which was subtlety demonstrated by her sudden change in formality when addressing me in French. I received this impression on multiple occasions, and regardless of how strong or mild the impression is, it causes one to hesitate to ask for assistance. Ultimately, whatever needed to be resolved eventually was, including the radiator, which was overheating and making loud noises, though it did involve my feeling a bit uncomfortable, as if I were bothering her.
Overall, however, she did take care of what needed to be taken care of.
