Description

The space

The cabin was built by Cato Arce of Moradas Verdes with superadobe (earth bags) and a lot of love for detail.

Guest access

You can use our washing machine.
We also have a temazcal (traditional sauna). If you would like to use it, we will arrange for a fee of 500 pesos covering the wood and the time to prepare it for you.

Kjell offers city tours and hikes in the mountains around San Cristóbal.
Rosario offers cooking classes for some Mexican and Thai dishes as well as Thai massage.

Interaction with guests

We are happy to give tips about San Cristóbal and Chiapas. Both of us are anthropologists, environmentalists and Kjell works as a tourist guide sometimes.

We also work with indigenous communities in the rainforest of Chiapas and sometimes have guests from the communities here at the house.

Our kids grow up with German and Spanish as first languages. Galileo (7) knows Portuguese and English as well and if you like kids, you can have a chat with him, too...

The neighbourhood

Very quiet, almost rural neighbourhood called "El Lago" 15 minutes walk from the city center.
The municipal sports center is just around the corner.

Attention: Due to the visit of the Pope the access door to our shortcut route to the center of town has been closed. It is still possible to step through a gap in the wall, but it is a bit adventurous. Else you have to take a taxi (30 pesos) or walk an extra 15 minutes to get to the center.
We are working on fixing this problem. I will remove this notice as soon as we have.

Getting around

15 minutes walk to the city center, 10 minutes walk to the bus station (Cristóbal Colón). Taxis cost 35 pesos and take you anywhere in town (40 late at night).

Other things to note

We can add an extra bed. Normally it is for just 2 persons.

Had a great stay in the eco cabin. The hosts were very informative and friendly. The hosts home as well as the cabin felt relaxing and it was nice to come home to it every night.

Kjell and Rosario are lovely and easy to communicate with. The place is exactly as described and is beautifully made and inspiring. I actually ended up cutting my stay short there, no fault of the hosts, so I was only there 1 night- but I will say that on the one night I cane home late I got lost in the cab who didn't know how to find the street they live in, then I ended up having to walk through the neighborhood a bit to find it. If I had stayed more then 1 night, I probably would not have had a hard time finding it from then on. If you are not good with fireplaces, ask kjell to show you in person how to use it. Other then that, its dreamy to wake up in a cob home :)

although there are a few improvements to be made, you will find that kjell and rosario are kind and responsive. we enjoyed some time w their boys, and they offered the use of their laundry equipment. the walk to the centro is maybe 15 minutes and is not difficult. we found the people of the neighborhood to be very friendly. wifi here is strong and reliable.

A lovely, cosy cabin which was exactly as expected. The host was in touch prior to arrival and although the hosts weren´t in San Cristobal when we arrived they organised their friend to collect us from the bus station and he was extremely helpful throughout our stay. The cabin was private and extremely comfortable, it was a 20 minute stroll into the centre of town but very easy to find, taxis to come back were about 35 pesos. We would definitely stay here if we return to San Cristobal, a lovely place!

We didn't have the opportunity to meet Kjell and Rosario because they were out of town for Christmas, but one of their friend, Gabir, took care of us and he is an adorable person, very helpful and sweet. The room fits to the picture. It's cosy and sweet, but if you are too tall, it maybe too small for you. If at night it's too cold, you can use the chimney. Some people complained about the location saying it's far, but honestly, it's not! If you plan to visit San Cristobal, you have to be able to walk, so ok, this place is 15 minutes walking from the center, but if you can't walk 15 minutes, don't go to San Cristobal. It's only 10 minutes from the central bus station. And you have the advantage to sleep in a quiet area ! Many people complains that the center of San Cristobal is noisy, and it's true, so staying in this place, you will be awaken by birds songs and not by cars. For us, the only problem was the shower. There was no pressure... Otherwise I recommend this place.

nice place nice people nice walks to town. The hostss' language skills our great and they are willing to help your Spanish language training by conversing in Spanish even though it's easier for them to speak English or German.

Amazing little Eco pod the only problem is the location... It's definitely a 20 minute walk to the centre. Thank you for all the recommendations we loved our stay!
