Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Our little red caboose is located in the Columbia Gorge scenic area, just 20 miles east of Portland, OR. It has its own (full) bathroom & a small kitchen, a queen bed in the main area & a double bed in the cupola. The caboose rests on 7+ acres, with a beautiful view, in a private park-like setting.

The space
A completely renovated, authentic railroad caboose, on a short piece of railroad track, resting on 7+ acres in the Columbia River Gorge, with a scenic view.

Guest access
Complete and private use of the caboose, which has its own bathroom and kitchen, as well as access to picnicking and campfire facilities behind the caboose, and a private deck off of the back of the caboose. Cell phone reception is very good at our hill top location and guests have turned their phone into a "hot-spot" for internet use. We do not have cable TV, so there are only a few channels, but there are many movies available in the caboose. Laundry facilities in the main house can be made available with advance notice.

Other things to note
Sleeping in the cupola requires climbing up a ladder. The bed in the cupola is a 4' wide, 7' long, with 2 layers of 4" thick foam mattress. The caboose is usually unavailable December through Feb or early March, due to windy and icy conditions on the bluff where it is located.

Location

Troutdale, Oregon, United States

We are surrounded by small farms and forest land, it is usually a quiet neighborhood. There are many beautiful hiking trails near by. Tad's Chicken and Dumplin Restaurant (2.3 miles) and McMenamin's Edgefield (4.39 miles west of us) are two favorite hotspots nearby.

My husband, Phil and I bought our farm in 1985, where we raised our 3 kids. With the help of a large crane and trucks, the caboose was moved to the farm in 1995 and was renovated in 1999, just in time for my mom to move into upon her retirement at age 70. Due to becoming wheelchair bound, my mom now lives in an assisted living facility. Phil and I met in 1981 while we were both working in the front office of the Portland Marriott Hotel, we still enjoy the art of hospitality. For the past 20+ years we have both been tile contractors, creating custom tile showers, fire places, floors, etc. working predominately in residential remodels with homeowners, designers and general contractors. We enjoy meeting new people. We believe in treating others the way that we would want to be treated.
