This was a wonderful place to stay in Cape Town. A cosy, comfortable house that became a home to us on our six week trip to South Africa. The house is clean and safe, and well set up for a long term stay. The outdoor shower was a real highlight! Observatory is a fun neighbourhood to be based in. There is a great choice of cafes and bars and it has a real community feel. Convenient for the universities, the city and the mountain. Gwen was a very friendly host who was very welcoming and tirelessly helpful. Micky the housekeeper was also great to chat to and she kept the place spotless! We loved it here and we would definitely stay here again!

Gwen was a wonderful host, she really went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The house is excellently equipped, spotlessly clean and cozy. The outside patio area was really great for breakfast and evening meals! The location is good for local eateries and public transport. For tourists, the Green Elephant backpackers around the corner runs tours around the Cape, and is a Bazbus stop.

We originally booked Gwen's gorgeous Bay-leaf cottage in Obs for a month. When the time came to leave we extended out stay with her. I think that sums up quite well our experience there. The house is really comfortable and feels like home from the moment you arrive. I particularly loved the beautiful wooden floors. I am very fussy with my sleeping, but slept like a baby in Bay Leaf cottage. The beds were very comfortable. And we really enjoyed the sun in the back garden. The house is located in Observatory, which is a gorgeous neighbourhood with a bit of a bohemian feel to it. It felt safe at all times. There are great restaurants 5 mins walk from the house. Finally, Gwen and her family were delightful, welcoming and friendly. We had a few great chats with them at their house. They always had great recommendations for things to do or places to visit. And we really enjoyed our talks about South African history and politics. In summary, great place to stay in a great city!!

We had a fantastic stay at Bay Leaf Cottage. Gwen is lovely, even providing us with the basic necessities when moving in at first (butter, bread, eggs, coffee and tea) and was very approachable throughout our stay. The area of Observatory is great - the nearby Lower Main road has many bars, restaurants and shops and is a short cab ride or drive to the Waterfront or centre of Cape Town. The cottage was in pristine condition and Mickey the housemaid keeps it that way to make your stay even more enjoyable. All in all I highly recommend Bay Leaf Cottage - thanks for such a great stay.

I stayed at Gwen's place for a month after living in Cape Town this year and I cannot give enough compliments. Gwen was SO helpful, kind, happy to answer questions, and extremely flexible and welcoming despite my ever changing schedule! Gwen provided to me much more than an Airbnb host should ever have to! The house was beautiful, comfortable, safe, clean and well equipped. Gwen was beyond kind, even when I changed plans or called her with extra queries (more than once, which I'm sure was frustrating!). By far the best Airbnb host I could imagine and a perfect end to my stay in Cape Town. I strongly recommend the cottage also for its location, outdoor living spaces, and security. Thank you Gwen!

I booked Gwen's place for two college students who were working on a short term project at UCT. Location was perfect-- central enough for restaurants, public transit, etc... but safe and secure. Gwen was a wonderful host next door. Students were happy and place was great. Will book again.
