Description

The space

A large double in stunning town house with and an incredible 'secret garden' to explore. 15 minutes by tube to Victoria, 5 minutes
by bus to into central Brixton with it's vibrant markets, restaurants and independent shops. Simple breakfast included. Free Parking

The room is on the first floor is brightly lit and overlooks the front garden. There is a wardrobe, bookshelves, and seating area. Next to the room is a wet room with power shower and a separate toilet nearby. Fresh linen and fluffy towels provided. We offer a simple breakfast of locally roast coffee, granola and our homemade marmalade for you to have whenever you want. There is WiFi throughout the house.

It's a large 3 storey house filled with vintage curious, books and art. What makes the house extra special is a large very secluded garden with fruit trees, wild flowers and raised beds for growing vegetables. A true urban oasis! You are welcome to have breakfast in the garden, relax in the hammock, or sunbath on the lawn should the weather permit!
We have four double bedrooms to choose from (these can be booked for together for special occasions by request)

Guest access

It's a big house with plenty of different spaces to meet others or be private. You will have access to a guest lounge & TV room and a separate breakfast room. Please note the kitchen is not available to guests since we often use it for food prep for our business. There are 2 bathrooms, a wet room with open shower, a separate toilet on the same floor and another bathroom on the top floor with both bath and modern shower.

Interaction with guests

We will meet you and show you around the house and garden. Dino our cat though a little shy will probably say hello. You may meet other guests if they have booked at the same time. Most days we are at our shop & restaurant Brixton Village Market - we are happy for you to pop in during the day (we are near the tube) to ask advice or join us for a coffee. We can give you an insiders guide to Brixton Village, recommend great local places to eat and curious places off the beaten track for you to visit.

The neighbourhood

We love Brixton and have lived here for many years. Our neighborhood, Brixton Hill is residential and leafy but with eateries right on the doorstep. Over the road is the White Horse pub with generous well priced food and a lively atmosphere and the newly opened Clink restaurant inside Brixton prison. Five minutes away is the lovely Brockwell Park with it's outdoor lido and a great cafe by the pool. Brixton now boasts a huge selection cafe's and restaurants to suit every taste. Brixton Village (where we have our restaurant/shop) is filled with vintage shops, traditional market stalls, small restaurants and boutique bars. It's the hang out spot that Londoners flock to at weekends and tourists form as far away as Hong Kong are discovering. For music lovers there are great gigs at the Brixton Academy, The Electric and Jamm. Brixton's Ritzy Cinema is an institution - the largest independent cinema in the UK screening both art-house films and mainstream movies.

Getting around

We are well connected! There is a bus stop less than a minute away. Brixton tube is 5 mins by bus, or an 8 minute walk. Brixton is ideal for fast commuting to any part of London. Victoria station is 7 minutes, Oxford Circus 10 minutes. A bus opposite the house takes you directly to the South Bank Centre, Waterloo, Regent Street, Liverpool Street and Kings Cross for Eurostar.
There are 4 overground train stations to all parts of London less than a mile from the house. The train lines are Connex, Thames Link, Southern and South East.

Other things to note

The House is set back from the main road, quiet and with free off road parking.

House Rules
Not suitable for pets
May not be safe or suitable for children (0-12 years)
Check in time is 1PM - 10PM

Check in: 1pm -10pm
Please check if you want to check in outside these hours.
Early arrivals: you are welcome to come and drop off your bags from 9am onwards. If the room is ready (no guests the previous night) you can often check in before 1pm, just ask.

Late arrivals: We can sometimes make an exception, but we don't generally accept arrivals after 10pm as it is disruptive for other guests. If you have a flight arriving after 8.30/9pm, it is unlikely you will make it to our house before 10pm.

Check in is by advance arrangement at a time suitable to both parties - we try to be as flexible as possible with check in to fit with guests travel plans - but this does not mean 'anytime'. If you arrive at a time not previously agreed you may not find us home.

We like to check in guests ourselves and show them around the house and garden, though are times when we are both working, both away when our housemate Jenny or a friend will be there to welcome you instead.

Check out
Is 11am or before, after which we need to clean and get the room ready for future guests. You need to leave keys in the room door and remove any bags, though it is often possible for you to leave bags downstairs to collect later.

Other House Rules
Being clean, tidy and friendly.
No smoking inside the house, only in the garden
Telling interesting tales of where in the world you're from
It's a quiet house, not a party house
Sorry, but we can't accommodate under 12s

I felt myself at home in Anne's beautiful house. It is situated in lively Brixton, but in a very quiet neighbourhood. The room and house are tastefully decorated. I especially enjoyed the tasty breakfast, which could be taken very late in the day, as it was self-serve.

Annes and Ians House is a very lovely place to stay during your trip in London. Located in Brixton you need 25 min to get into the city centre or a bit longer if you take the bus. Its easy to get there even late at night. The house is old, charming and stylish decorated and we really felt at home there. The welcome was very nice and you get all the information you need especially for a trip around Brixton. You should definitely visit some of the recommended restaurants and go to the Brixton market and visit Anne and Ian's Shop - it's fantastic! We also enjoyed the breakfast with super delicious bread (freshly baked), jam (selfmade), coffee (roasted from a friend) and fresh fruits. You can also stroll around the lovely backside garden alongside with the cat. Would definitely stay here again!

We had a wonderful stay at Anne and Ian's home. The house itself is quite marvelous: amazing finds from around the world, lovely books, delicious homemade breakfast every morning, cute cat, beautiful garden. They recommended many cool places to go to around Brixton and London in general and made sure we felt at home at all times. Can't recommend them enoguh! Lovely stay, we'll be back for sure. Thank Anne and Ian!

A very comfortable and beautiful place. Anne and Ian were lovely hosts. They were very friendly and offered great advice on what to do around the area, if you are unfamiliar with it. A handful of great restaurants within walk distance. It does however take about half an hour by bus or train to the sights. Overall, I was pleased with my stay. I'll definitely come back when I'm in the country.

Anne User ProfileAnne is a superhost.

My background is in design and innovation and my partner Ian is a chef. We have a little restaurant in Brixton Village market and a shop selling useful, beautiful and curious things for the home. We like gardening, growing food & eating it. We travel a fair bit and have had some great experiences through Airbnb. We are really looking forward to being hosts ourselves and helping people explore Brixton and our favourite 'secret' bits of London.
