A former coconut plantation provides the backdrop for this stunning post-modern villa. Simplicity, serenity and proximity with nature are reflected in the house, the 20m lap pool and the 2 acre garden. Staff of 2 housekeepers, 1 gardener.

The space

The property consists in 4 houses: the main house with the kitchen and sitting room, the Ocean villa with two bedrooms and en suite bathroom, the White Lotus villa with its own sitting room, bedroom and bathroom and the Tree House, built in wood, with its two large bedrooms and bathroom. The property can comfortably sleep 11 adults.

Guest access

The full property is accessible to guests. The house was built by our family who have been coming to Sri Lanka for 20 years. The area is still very local, and it is important to respect local customs on the property and on the beach.

Interaction with guests

The house is fully staffed: there are two housekeepers and a gardener. Darshika understands and speaks some English but she is not fluent. The staff are extremely friendly, they can cook local food on demand. Kandewattha has been designed so guests have full flexibility to ask the staff for help or cook themselves . Dharshika and Madu are not professional cooks but they can prepare local meals if you let them know in advance. They will pass you the bill for the cost of buying the food on a daily basis.
Breakfast can be Western or Sri Lankan. For lunch and dinner, there is a simple menu to choose from.
If you would like to cook yourself, you can find plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables at the market in Tangalle. There is also a supermarket, Cargill's Food City, which stocks all the basics but does not sell any wine or spirits.

Other things to note

The property is located on a small hill overlooking the sea. This means guests have to go up some stairs to get to the house as cars have no access up on the hill. There are about 3o stairs> We prefer to share that these stairs could prevent elderly people to go up and down during their stay. Luggage can be carried by the staff.

We would like guests to respect the house and property as their own. Although we are children friendly, the property is not ideal for young children. They would need constant surveillance especially near the pool which is not fenced.

This is the ever best experience for our 2nd family trip to Lanka; only because we found this amazing house in Tangelle. Edward was so supportive from our booking by an unusual exception to give us 2 nights. At the end, we, 3 families members all think we should stay for 3 nights. House is elegant design by white and tiq wood and even has a tree house. Well organized management by maintainence staff and with their contribution, we had Chinese lunch and dinner in our last day. We've exchanged cooking experiences each other. And a boy spent his unforgettable 12th B day here. So wonderful time we spent in this house for 48 hours. Wish to see you in Shanghai one day. All the bests Eva

We had a wonderful time at Edward's villa in Tangalle. Edward was super helpful in the run up to our booking, answering a few questions we had. It was nice to receive messages from Edward a few days before and during our stay to make sure we were ok. The villa is stunning and the staff are fantastic. Darshika prepared lunch for my nephew's 18th birthday which was the day after we arrived. She put on a sensational feast and also organised a cake and some decorations at the last minute. Everyone thought it was fantastic, it was better than any restaurant we could have gone to. The cooking was delicious, even my Sri Lankan parents were impressed by how great it was. It was a lovely stay and such a stunning location. My only suggestion is to give the villa a name and put a sign down from the main road so it's a little easier to find. Only a very minor critique to what was a perfect stay. Thank you all xx

We were blown away by this place. Gorgeous houses, amazing property, generous hearted staff, crashing waves, wildlife to keep you entertained for hours. The pool is very large and fabulous. We had the best week. The food was simply AMAZING! The only hardship is that we won't find food as good anywhere else ;-) Darshika cooks her curries in a clay pot over the fire. Loved the Dickwella market. Thank you so much for making this place available - truly a privilege.

This is possibly the most beautiful home I've had the pleasure of staying in. Darshika, Muni and all of the staff are lovely, welcoming and above all incredible chefs! They went to every effort to make our stay more enjoyable. The land itself and the views are stunning and very well maintained. The 4 buildings are also amazing, and the showers and bathtub have incredible views overlooking the ocean to wake up to! The photos don't do the place justice.

Great communication from Edward during the booking process. The villa is quite remote, but our driver was able to liaise with Darshika to guide us in which was a great help. The welcome by Darshika, Muni and Madu was exceptional - they couldn't do enough for us. The villa itself is beautiful, well appointed and has a wonderful pool. There are great views, and the villa is really secluded. We did find that the noise of the waves in the lower master room was to loud to sleep and retreated to the higher bedrooms where a good nights sleep was had. Also, there is no aircon here, so it can get sweaty, but generally a good breeze is had via the ceiling fans/windows/doors/shutters. A massive thanks to Darshika, Muni and Madu, who cooked delicious meals, gave helpful advice and took us to the beach and a hidden local restaurant. We can't thank them enough. Also, Muni is a driver, that although we didn't use, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend based on his brilliant knowledge, fluent English and kindness. I am sure Edward can pass his details to you as a driver, as airbnb prohibits posting his details here. All in all a great stay and we were sad to leave.

This is truly amazing place. We've chosen it for our wedding ceremony on Sri Lanka. And I could say that we made the right choice. We've really been enjoying every minute of our stay here. The villa is located a bit far from the road and so it's hidden from other eyes except monkey's and all the noise except ocean's. You can get here very unique private space. Villa's architecture stands our from most of Sri Lankan's villas. It's Mediterranean vibe is like a breath of fresh air. You can expect to get all what you can see on the pictures and a bit more. The place is clean and comfortable and the staff is very helpful and welcoming. Darshika has been cooking for us some really delicious local food. And her husband Muni helped a lot with transportation. Highly recommend to everyone.

We had an amazing stay in Kandewattha - to a big part thanks to great communication with the host, Edward, and outstanding service from the staff led by Darshika and Muni. When we came, we were first surprised by how big everything was - especially the garden. We thought the pictures looked great but reality was actually way better. We (eleven friends in our late 20's - three couples and five singles) took turns sleeping in the different rooms. The Lotus Villa feels extremely luxurious, and the other two double bedrooms are also great. The treehouse is simpler and much closer to nature, yet nice and more peaceful than the other rooms. Remember to bring ear-plugs for the Lotus Villa as the waves outside can be very noisy, and prepare to come close to wildlife in the treehouse. We had some minor problems with unexpected visitors but these problems were addressed and everything was handled in the best way - just like a real luxury hotel would handle it. On to the food and service. We chose not to cook anything ourselves and that was a great decision! At a very low cost for just the food, we were provided great meals every day - mostly Sri Lankan food but with some Western influences for breakfast. The portions are sometimes smaller than you might be used to, so talk to Darshika if you have any special requests. We asked if we could have some coconuts from the garden to drink from, and they even arranged that. We also got help with doing laundry, and after check-out, Muni drove parts of the group to the airport at a reasonable rate. Also, for excursions the other days, tuktuks were arranged for us and came to pick us up right outside the house. This was highly convenient as the house is a bit remote and tricky to find. Overall, this was a terrific stay. What we appreciated the most was the host and staff's flexibility and service mindedness, the amazing breakfasts, and the relaxed atmosphere that made us all feel very harmonious. Thank you for having us and we hope we'll be back again!
