Description

The space

Welcome to Travis Heights! This quite, historic neighborhood located just south of Town Lake provides visitors a genuine South Austin experience.

Our house (built in 1958) sits under a canopy of pecan trees on Travis Heights Boulevard and neighbors beautiful homes built as early as 1890 and others newly constructed and designed by reputable, local architects.

Seasonal Events like ACL, F1, and SXSW require a 4 night minimum rental.

Shortly after we moved in, we learned that our house was used in the 1993 film 'Dazed and Confused' by Richard Linklater. You can see the house best when Tony (Anthony Rapp) and Sabrina (Christin Hinojosa) are kissing goodbye (a tender moment) at the end of the film.

Guest access

Our guests have full access to the house including garage, laundry room and appliances. A fully equipped kitchen includes cooking basics, as well as a coffee maker and blender. Local coffee, tea and chocolates are always in stock. Front yard, covered porch and back yard with patio are furnished and can be enjoyed year round.

Interaction with guests

We live in a separate unit on the property which is located opposite the back yard and accessible via a private drive and entrance. We always meet guests upon arrival and would be happy to assist with dining, entertainment and cultural event recommendations while you are staying with us.

The neighbourhood

Travis Heights, known by locals as Austin's urban forest, is located just south of Downtown and just north of the 40 acre Blunn Creek Nature Preserve.

The neighborhood encourages walking and cycling with trail access and bike lanes to more than 20 miles of bustling central Austin. Guest can walk down our private alley to Big Stacy Pool. The Pool is open year round (heated in winter), offers free-admission and is complete with swimming lanes and a deep end suitable for diving.

Big Stacy Park is located a few steps from our home and guests can jog, cycle, and play tennis, or simply relax in some of the natural areas in the 23 acre greenbelt along Blunn Creek.

Blunn Creek Greenbelt

The iconic South Congress shops and restaurants are less than 1/4 mile away. The Boardwalk portion of the Hike and Bike Trail (1/2 mi.). Visit Zilker Park (2 mi.) with Austin's jewel - Barton Springs Pool. View the bats from Congress Avenue bridge at twilight before you head downtown for nightlife (2 mi.).

Getting around

This is an ideal location for access to downtown (Lady Bird Lake, Convention Center, Zilker and other City Parks as well as Cultural Venues). Capital Metro ( bus stops are 3 blocks away. Taxis, Ride Austin and Fasten drivers are readily available. Hourly "membership" car and bike rentals like Austin B Cycle and Cars2Go are also available.

Other things to note

We also rent a separate GUEST SUITE on this property so you may see other guests here in the common areas during your stay.

Once I read that this house was in Dazed and Confused, I immediately booked it and I don't regret it! The home was decorated in all the ways that are both retro Austin and homey. The art work was amazing and the beds and couches were super comfortable. To top it off, the house is in a very convenient and safe part of Austin. You can easily walk down to South Congress or take a cheap cab to downtown. I'll definitely be coming again!

We absolutely loved our stay here. From quiet leafy boulevards, to Big Stacy pool and park. Angella was a great host - she welcomed us with drinks and snacks and the house was extremely well-equipped. Easy walk into south congress and easy drive to everywhere else. Barton Springs are nearby and definitely worth a visit, as is Angella's amazing rooftop terrace at sunset. Just wish we could have stayed longer!

Angella's home was wonderful! Loved all the art and furniture throughout the house, that gave it a very homey feel. Angella is a great host and very responsive. She actually lives in the home right behind this in case of any questions or emergencies!

Really nice place to stay during SXSW. Excellent service, including tracing our lost and wrongly delivered rental bicycles.

Angella User ProfileAngella is a superhost.

I am a native Texan who loves Austin above all other cities in the state. Living here since 1996, my husband Tommy and I consider ourselves fortunate to be a part of the growing economy, a viable arts community, and a network of close family, friends and colleagues. Travis Heights has been our home since 1999.
When we are not traveling to exotic lands, attending family events or taking care of business, you will find us in the back house making art and music or at the neighborhood park with Lily and Sharon (our two lovely canine creatures). Or, now that we are hosting guest at the house, you may find us curating local, urban experiences for folks staying at our property.
