The space

I have a great cottage/carriage house (that means it's behind a Victorian) in the heart of the Castro just a couple blocks from Dolores Park. Large kitchen overlooking a gorgeous garden, super quiet (especially for being in center of the Castro!), lofted sleeping space, living room, outside space, wi-fi, fully furnished with all amenities.

This is a great neighborhood a block from a Muni stop with quick access downtown. You're within walking distance to some of the best restaurants in the country with Delfina, Bar Tartine, Foreign Cinema to name just a few. The famous Tartine bakery with it's incredible morning buns is waiting for you to come try them! Shop at Bi Rite Market for prepared foods when you're on the go or local farm groceries when you want to make a meal in the large carriage house kitchen. The coffee wars with Four Barrel, Blue Bottle and Ritual are ready for you to join the fracas....which do you choose? Try the myriad ethnic restaurants offering any type of food you can think of! Is your mouth watering yet?

Now walk to the top of 20th & Church for a great view of the city at Dolores Park. The weather in this area is some of the best in the city, so whether you're going for a romantic picnic, playing tennis or just want to people watch it's one of the most popular parks in the city.

As for the Castro it's always entertaining. Everything you need is within a couple of blocks, from the post office to shopping, transportation and bars! All this at your fingertips while being in one of the quietest places in the heart of a city!

There is a pet in the home when I'm here. She is a whippet dog and has short hair. Nobody has had a problem with allergies.

Janet's place is an absolute gem! You cannot beat the location, right in the heart of the Castro but half a block off a main street. The setting of her house, fully behind the row of houses that front onto the side street, makes it extra quiet. It's really a sunny little oasis! Everything was thoughtfully provided, and Janet has really maximized her efficient use of space. I took notes on kitchen organizing during my stay! One thing to note, which other reviewers pointed out but which still wasn't clear to me: the ladder to the sleeping loft is nearly vertical, and the loft is about 14 feet off the floor of the main room. In addition, the bed is directly under a skylight, and despite the shade the sunlight warms the room and will likely wake you up. Of course, Janet provides eyeshades for just this purpose! I'd also note that the rafters of the roof are so close to the bed that I bonked my head a couple of times getting in and out of bed. Janet also had an air mattress available, and I used that in the living room so that I could sleep well past the dawn's early light.

Janet's cottage is a very peaceful and unique experience. Her quiet cottage provided a relaxing stay with the option of experiencing the hustle and bustle of city life just a block away. Although she was on her own vacation, Janet accommodated additional requests and was very responsive. I hope to make it back there someday!

Great location and charming space. Airbnbs range from completely-impersonal-ikea-furnished spaces to step-into-someone-else's home life. This is definitely at the latter end of the spectrum. It is delightfully full of art, book collections, personal objects, etc, so you need to be comfortable with that and everything that it entails. Communication was very easy.

This is a great place to stay in the Castro. It's close to everything and all transport but it's sunk back onto the block so it's very quiet. The bed is in a loft up a steep ladder so be aware of that but I didn't have any problems getting up and down. Great place to relax between outings.

Janet's place was lovely, clean and close to a lot of great neighborhoods in SF. The loft bed was a little challenging getting up and down late at night but aside from that we really enjoyed the experience there and would definitely stay there again. The pictures don't really do the place justice for those that are wondering.

I am a graphic designer who has lived in SF many years and still always finds it fascinating! I like to eat great food, travel, hang with friends and go to art related events. I go to Dolores Park almost every day with my dog Dottie as she has an active social life! I can provide…
