We offer all the benefits of staying within a real Tasmanian household, as well as the independence to come and go as you please. While we also live here, we will welcome you as friends, and help to guide you though the best Tassie holiday ever.

The modern and spacious home is just minutes walk from the beautiful Carlton surf beach, local shops, bakery, eateries, parks and boat jetty. There is off street parking in the quiet no through road with level access to the accommodation facilities. Architecturally designed, the houses seems to float above the trees and boasts a clear view of the bay and beyond. Completed in 2014, everything in this home is finished to the most exceptional standards.

The beautifully appointed spacious double bedroom offers all the comforts of modern beachside accommodation. The room can accommodate up to 4 guests. The Bed configuration includes one double bed, one single pull out trundle bed and a three seater couch made up. (there is also a porta cot and bedding available) The room includes a double built in wardrobe, a fridge, microwave, sandwich toaster, kettle and toaster for guests use, as well as TV and free Wi-Fi. Directly opposite the bedroom is an immaculate private bathroom with double spa bath, large shower and toilet.

Interaction with guests

Bec and her family live in the rear and downstairs regions of the large home, so while you may see them on a daily basis it is also possible to be completely independent travellers. Bec has a great knowledge of Tassie and will happily give you suggestions for sightseeing, and what you can expect from our beautiful island state.

The neighbourhood

An idyllic sea side retreat, Bec’s B&B is just 20 minute drive from Hobart airport and 35 minutes from Hobart and of course David Walsh’s world famous MONA. Ideally situated for daily sightseeing of some of Tassie’s most iconic tourist attractions, Port Arthur tourist site is just an hour drive with many world renowned destinations on the route. Also within daily driving distance is Tasmania’s breathtaking East Coast including, stunning beaches, fabulous wineries and Freycinet National Park.

Getting around

While there is some public transport, access to your own vehicle will make your stay much easier. Dodges Ferry is a small town, most essentials are available and within walking distance. The local shops including the supermarket close daily at 7.30pm. The local hotel is not open for meals on Sunday and Monday nights. It is necessary to book in peak season. The nearest large town, Sorell is 15 minutes drive. There are big chain supermarkets in Sorell which are open late. There are buses which run into and back from Hobart. There are car rentals available at Hobart airport. Airport Transfers may be arranged at an additional cost. There is a courtesy bus provided by the local hotel, as well as a night rider bus into Hobart. There is a boat ramp for water access, local boat storage and boat charter.

Other things to note

Our home uses tanks water. We ask that guests restrict their water use as much as is possible. We ask that showering be kept to no more than 10mins per guest per day as water is expensive and rain is rare. (a 20 min shower uses 350 litre of water our tanks hold a total of 20,000 litres at capacity).

We have two friendly family dogs on the premises, while the dogs are outside and fully enclosed, they may bark at your arrival, at wildlife or other passers by. If this could affect the enjoyment of your stay with us for any reason, then better to find alternate accommodation

Bec and her girls were welcoming and treated us like family. The house is lovely, warm fire place, beautiful view. The room is spacious and just as pictured. Breakfast was laid out in the room, fruit, cereal, toast, oats. We were welcomed to share the space and felt right at home.

After a week of camping 'Bec's B&B' was meant to be a bit of a treat for the last day of our trip. I chose the place because it seemed to be close enough to the airport, Bec was flexible with a late check out and the description advertised a private bathroom with a spa bath. We were keen to have a wash and a relax. Bec seemed very friendly and accommodating. The room was situated in a family home and being school holidays Bec's kids were very noisy. Bec apologised for the noise and the slamming of doors and we were not too phased until the night came and Bec and her partner started having a very loud argument. It was 9.45pm and we were not able to have piece and quiet until much later on as the arguing was then followed by loud music. We were also briefed, when we arrived by Bec that we needed to be conservative with the water and to avoid long showers. This meant we missed out on the spa bath we were looking forward to all week. A modest breakfast was provided. The jam was nice but it was lucky we brought our own bread. All in all the bed was comfortable but for the price of the room it probably should have at least been a queen size, the beach and view was beautiful, the room was clean and the people seamed friendly.

Response from Rebecca:
Hi Eleanor, Firstly, I apologise for the noise you experienced. While we try our very best to be respectful and quite for our guests. The house is our home, this is stated very clearly on the web site. We live here and life is not always easy, or quiet. Secondly, a Bed and breakfast is exactly that, most of our guests require a bed a night and are gone in the morning, we rarely have a request such as yours, early check in and late check out. We frequently try to vacate our home to accommodate our guests, this is not always possible. Thirdly, You were more than welcome to have a spa, the reminder to guests about water is due to the lack of understanding from previous guests who think hour long showers are acceptable. There is a huge lack of water across the whole of Tasmania, our hydro dams are at 13% and we are verging on a power crisis due to lack of water. And Finally, our "modest breakfast" included fresh fruit (bananas, apple and pears), tinned fruit, Yoghurt, butter, Fresh bread, (which you didn't open so not sure what the issue was there?) a choice of four cereals, as well as juice, tea, coffee, (instant or plunger) milo and milk. I do hope that you have recovered well from your ear infection, they can be very painful and can completely mar your enjoyment of a "holiday". My apologies again if you felt that we, as host let you down. Always striving to improve our service. Fond Regards Bec.
