Description

The space

The house was built in the early 70’s, by the electrician for the first boring of the Eisenhower Tunnel. It is situated in one of the older neighborhoods in Silverthorne, on the side of Ptarmigan Mountain. I grew up here, my mom ran the house as Ptarmigan Mountain Bed and Breakfast during the 80’s, and I now carry on the torch, as I have renovated the house and reopened it as Ptarmigans Nest Bed and Breakfast ( July 2015).

The Facilities:

The Ptarmigans Nest Bed and Breakfast has 5 rooms. Three of the rooms have private baths, while the remaining two rooms share a bath and are dormitory style. Guests enjoy the use of a full kitchen, music room (feel free to play our piano, or ukulele!), living room, dining area by a wood burning stove, two decks, an outdoor gas grill, and a sauna. It is very private as we have our own separate living quarters. We also have a small greenhouse in back, that you are more than welcome to check out.

We do love and allow pets, there is a $25 fee per pet and animals are not to be left in the rooms unattended, (sorry no exceptions!), there is a fabulous place nearby called The Dillon Dog Den, which is a great place to drop your dog off for the day, if your uncomfortable with him staying in your car while you ski.

Guest access

We are just a couple miles off of 1-70. Many guests arrive to Summit County in an airport van, several different companies offer door to door service. Colorado Mountain Express, Summit Express, Peak One etc, Rates vary, depending on the time of year. We are an hour and a half drive from the Denver International Airport.

We have the best of both world here, as we are right in Silverthorne, so there are many activities within walking or riding distance, but we are tucked back into a peaceful neighborhood.

Interaction with guests

We usually serve a gratuitous, simple breakfast. We use food that is high quality, organic, gluten free, and mostly local (we buy from a local organic farmer). Breakfast is not super fancy, we keep it simple.

We live on the garden level, so we are always nearby for questions or concerns. As I was born and raised here, feel free to ask about hikes, things to do, discounted lift tickets, etc etc.

The neighbourhood

The Ptarmigans Nest B n B, has excellent views of Buffalo Mt, Red Mt, and Peak 1. The Ptarmigans Nest B n B, is a short walk away from the Blue River (with gold medal fishing), the bike path system, the library, The Silverthorne Recreation Center, Rainbow Park, The Silverthorne Factory Stores, The Summit Stage (Summits free bus line), Uncle Johns Farm Stand, hiking trails, and a handful of bars, restaurants, and coffee shops.

Getting around

The Summit Stage is a free local bus that has several bus stops between 3-6 blocks away. It goes to all of the local ski resorts in Summit County (Keystone, Copper Mt, A-Basin, and Breckenridge). If you are going to Vail or Loveland you will definitely need to arrange transportation (sometimes carpooling with someone here may be an option). The bike path is two blocks away...from there you can ride around Lake Dillon or even go all the way to Vail or even Glenwood Springs!

Other things to note

The Ptarmigans Nest Bed and Breakfast is located in Silverthorne Colorado. Silverthorne is 10 minutes from Keystone, Copper Mountain and Loveland, 20 minutes from Arapahoe Basin and Breckenridge and 30 minutes from Vail.

House Rules
Check in is anytime after 3PM

We are pet friendly. If you are severely allergic to pets, this is probably not the place for you, although the rooms are clean and free of our pets, there are two dogs and a cat on premise. We allow pets for a $25.00 fee (each pet), and they must be kept with their owners (not left in the rooms) at all times. We do not have a fenced in area, and as we have a lot of wildlife (moose, fox, elk, deer, ermine, coyotes, etc), dogs must be kept on a leash.

We strive to give our guests a relaxing experience and we use non-toxic cleaning products. We do not allow any smoking indoors, for the comfort of all guests. And we ask that smokers, and guests with pets show common courtesy to other guests so that this may be a sanctuary for all who visit here.

Holly is a wonderful host and my stay was fantastic. The location is very convenient, central to all the ski resorts in the area, and close to grocery stores, target, walmart, and a lowes. The best part about staying here is all the people you meet who are staying in the other rooms. Most nights, you will find several guests cooking/eating dinner together and sitting by the fire until they go to bed. Also a plus, I was able to bring my dog and found a great day care (Dillon Dog Den) 5 mins down the road that I could drop her off while I went skiing. I can't say enough good things about Holly and this house.

Like staying in a relative's home. Great views of mountains to the west. Very social dogs and cat. Holly puts out a nice breakfast, which we have not seen in other BnB's. This is a great base of exploration for all of Summit County (and other attractions further west). The "Wolf" room is spacious and comfortable with a clean double sink and shower bathroom. The common areas are large, with comfortable chairs and couches.

Property was cozy, and the host was wonderful. She was extremely welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The master bedroom was nice, but the cat very much enjoys this room, and laying on the bed, so beware if you have allergies.

Response from Holly:
Being a white cat, he knows that I hate for him to go in that room with the black bedspread, which makes him want to go in there all the more! Sorry if he interloped on your romantic get-away.

Holly was a very warm and welcoming hostess. Her breakfast is great and her cobbler will fuel you through the day skiing. Ptarmigans Nest is conveniently located with easy access to Summit County ski areas. I enjoyed my stay.

We had a wonderful time at Holly's home! She made us feel very welcome, provided great information and tips about activities in the area, and went out of her way to ensure her guests are able to access all that they want to do around Silverthorne/Dillon. The house is homey and cozy in the winter, and attracts a fun group of fellow travelers and outdoor enthusiasts. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean, and had all the amenities we could need. The sauna was also a nice perk after a cold day out skiing! The breakfasts were delicious, healthy and vegetarian-friendly. Thank you Holly for a great week! I hope we'll be able to return to Summit County in the future.

Holly was a wonderful host. She contacted me asking about any food allergies or needs, and was very accommodating. The house was immaculately clean and had a kitchen fully stocked with dishes, glassware, and flatware for use. The TV and other items were in perfect working order. The bathroom had two fluffy clean towels, a fresh bar of nice soap, sample size shampoos, and was also immaculately clean. The location is lovely and the entire experience was one I would gladly repeat.
