Pvt Ent to 1K grd flr apartment in converted barn complex, private fire pit, shared seasonal grilling/ pool/yard. Sleeps 6. Located in Pownal Center near NY/MA/VT. N. Bennington Winter Festival Jan 25, Winter Homebrew Fest. March 7 (tickets req.), Maple Syrup Farms Open House March 21-22, or enjoy Beer Trail, Wine Trail, Cheese Trail, or our own exclusive Farm-to-TableTour anytime! Prime nordic skiing/ snowshoeing @ Prospect Mountain, Downhill @ Jiminey Peak and mushing sled dogs in Wardsboro.

The space
We are pleased to once again offer our ever-popular home-away-from-home, fully-appointed, convenient but still private guest apartment with full kitchen, laundry, and private entrance. Queen bedroom, king bed in large alcove off living room, and comfy (no kidding) double pull-out sofa in living room which also accommodates dining area. (NOTE: Maximum 4 adults.) Full kitchen with dishwasher, microwave and all dishes, pots, etc. Entrance is through a heated mudroom that has room for skis and boots and all manner of sports gear. Bathroom with double-wide shower, washer and dryer. Large closets, cable TV, VCR, DVD, stereo. Fenced-in brick courtyard for outdoor grilling and dining, and pool in season.
This is the guest residence to our former home and is actually a small portion of a 10,000 sf renovated barn complex which includes our former studio and gallery now closed, as well as ample areas for outdoor living with pool, patio, and large yard.
This is a really unique space. The original barn was converted to retail in the 60's when US Route 7, the main artery from Long Island Sound to the Canadian border, was relocated.
There are sleeping accommodations for 6 people but we prefer to have no more than four adults as to not overtax the infrastructure. Guest apartment is a wholly separate space that can be accessed from the courtyard or, by special arrangement, through the service entrances/corridor.
Note to potential guests: 99% of our guests love staying here and return and recommend us to their friends. The other fraction of a percent have a problem with an occasional mouse "leave-behind", the proximity to a road (hey, where else would you put your barn), and any number of other observations. It is not some architectural masterpiece. This is our former home which we designed into a somewhat funky residence that maintains a country flavor. If these things bother you please do not rent from us! We depend on good reviews and a good rental season to cover the cost of owning this rural treasure.

Guest access
Please arrange your approximate check-in time in advance. With advanced notice, late arrivals can be accommodated. You do not share this apartment with anyone else. We give you the key to your own ground floor entrance and leave you alone to enjoy all the facilities according to the season and your preferences. The seasonal pool and yard are for both guests to enjoy. The courtyard, while leading to the neighbor's second-floor entrance, is for your seasonal grilling and outdoor dining use. Due to its proximity to the neighbor's entrance, the hot tub is only available to you when there are no other guests. FIre pit is located on the east side of the building affording ultimate privacy. During winter month's the fire pit may be relocated to the courtyard for everyone's use.

Other things to note
Airbnb is now collecting and remitting VT occupancy tax which is included in your total remittance. If we have accepted your dog, we charge $15 per dog per night payable directly to us via credit card ahead of time or in cash upon arrival.

Location

Pownal, Vermont, United States

Rural Village setting on a main thoroughfare extremely convenient to Williamstown, Bennington and points west. Up at the top of the hill next door is a wonderful Vermont Farm of Distinction, called appropriately enough "Hilltop Farm" belonging to the Gardner family. Marilyn loves visitors and you can buy eggs, raw milk, organic beef, honey and maple syrup there. The view across the valley from there is included in our photos.

The Pownal Valley has been painted extensively for the past two centuries. Artists like Georgia O'Keefe and Norman Rockwell have created paintings here, as well as students and instructors from the Art Students League of NY. The latter maintained a summer boarding house across from our barn for many years. We are just 6 miles from either Bennington or Williamstown, Ma. The museums, Mass MoCA and the Clark, draw visitors from around the world.

Bennington College, Williams College and Southern Vermont college are nearby. The numerous attractions in the Berkshires are nearby as well.

Good food abounds, and here's a partial list of our favorites with more on our website:
Mezze, US Rte 7, Williamstown MA - $$ farm to table. Excellent. Our place for occasions and celebrations.
Your Belly's Deli, Pleasant St., Bennington Great sandwiches, salads and soups.
Man of Kent, Middle of Nowhere, NY - pub food, great burgers. N. on US Rte 7 one block, left onto N. Pownal Rd., right onto Rte 346, right onto rte 22, left onto NY Rte 7, 1 mile on left.
Freight Yard Pub, North Adams MA. Pat says this is the best burger she’s ever had. Call them for directions. It’s hard to find
Madison’s Brew Pub, Main St, Bennington VT. Our go-to casual place. Great food.
Blue Ben Diner, US Rte 7, Bennington VT - don’t miss this. Authentic style diner. People come from far away for this one.
Papa Pete’s, Bennington VT - great breakfast. On Rt 9 East about a mile out of town. Cash only
Avoid at all costs: Casual Corner, Chef's Hat both in WIlliamstown MA

My husband and I are a photographer / producer combo. In 2006 we converted a Vermont barn complex into a residence, studio and gallery after a 5-year stint in Seattle. But in mid-2014 following the birth of our granddaughter we moved back to Connecticut where we are remodeling a 1980's one-of-a-kind cliff-hanger. We love to travel and meet new people; love reading, movies, music especially blues, jazz and bluegrass; and apparently home renovation. Pat is the world's best cook, and Gabe has the world's best appetite. You can see Gabe's work on demolition studio.
