We had a lovely relaxing break in Alvaro's apartment. It is a short walk from the bus station and to lots of great places to eat. We thoroughly enjoyed the Plaza Cabilda and San Roque at night and went to some great tapas bars recommended by Alvaro's mum. The walk along the beach was beautiful, offering a number of different swimming experiences, from hiring beds on the main family friendly beach, to some sandy sun bathing, swimming and slap up lunches at Bajo de Guia. We also found some rocks to swim from near the headland at the end of Piletas where the sea was a bit deeper. Sunsets over the sea were a great start to our nights out and one day we got a bus to Chipiona for a lovely lunch. The apartment was comfortable and clean, with a good shower and cooking facilities that were easy to use. The roof terrace was lovely at night and the castle, gardens and bodega near the apartment are all worth a visit. Supermarkets were close by and the opportunities to spot storks' nests were a bonus treat.

Alvaro's apartment was great, much nicer than the photos suggested. His mother welcomed us warmly and they were very easy to deal with. The apartment is very modern and had everything we needed. It's located in a wonderful part of the old town, opposite the palace and very near to some great tapas bars. We were 10-15 mins walk from the beach and less than 5 from the main plaza in town.

Alvaro is a generous-spirited, welcoming host. We arrived late (cancelled flight) and at night, at the same time one of the big Semana Santa processions in central Sanlucar de Barrameda was going down the street of the apartment. Well, Alvaro grabbed the heavy suitcase and led us on foot through 300m of streets packed with the procession and crowds to deliver us to the comfortable, greatly-located apartment. And a bottle of chilled manzanilla! Well beyond the call of duty, and a careful explanation of where everything was and how it works. Plenty of space, nice balcony looking up the street to the main church, roof terrace with fantastic views over the rooftops, big horizons and last bend of the mighty Guadalquivir river. Sanlucar is a beautiful town with a long, rich history, good food and a vibrant, traditional Andalucian culture and Alvaro's flat is well-positioned to enjoy all of it!

Álvaro and his mother who basically looked after my husband and I were both helpful. The apartment is modern and well located. We were able to park nearby and walk to restaurants, shops, etc. we did have a problem with the TV which Alvero's mother fixed but we never worked out how to use the cooktop.

We were delighted with our experience here. Alvaro's mother Rocío was incredibly helpful, as well as giving us a delicious half-bottle of local wine as a welcome present and organizing a table for us at the local sailing club restaurant with views to Doñana. The apartment itself is on the second floor so you need a good pair of legs, but once up there it doesn't disappoint, and you also get a key to the roof terrace with good views over the town. It is thoroughly modern in style and everything worked very well, but beware when washing dishes at the sink or you will bash your head on the cooker hood as I did (twice) before I hung a tea-towel from the offending corner to remind me. The neighbourhood is quieter than the centre (itself only 5 minutes' walk down the hill) but you are close to several local sights and eateries if you want to stay local. Parking is possible in the surrounding streets but you may need to drive around a bit before you find somewhere.

When we were about to arrive in Sanlucar I contacted my host Alvaro, who arranged for us to be met and taken to the apartment. The location and description was perfect, in an area surrounded by important historical buildings, and a short walk to the main central plaza del Cabildo and San Roque. Here were some delightful cafes and restaurants to eat, drink and observe life in Sanlucar. In Plaza San Roque there was a library, which offered free internet access, so we could keep informed of events locally. We kept in touch with Alvaro during our stay and he invited us to meet him at the Hipodrome, where the special event, at this time of year, is Horse Racing on the beach. We were made very welcome and when it was time to leave, taken to the bus station. Our stay in Sanlucar was wonderful, full of memories, and we hope to stay in touch with Alvaro, for our next visit. Kind Regards Terry & Denise
