Thorndon House Garden Room is a light and airy room, with its own entrance, separate from the main house. The Garden Room is self contained with an ensuite (power shower), kitchen area with fridge, microwave and tea and coffee facilities. We are in a rural location but only 4 miles from Exeter city life! The house and main gardens enjoy far reached, stunning views to Killerton house and the Culm Valley which you are welcome to use. Perfect location if you fancy wild swimming or country walks.
The Garden Room is a spacious room with two lovely windows overlooking the courtyard. It is light and airy and very comfortably accommodates 2 people and possibly 3 if you have a child ( easily big enough for a travel cot or a single mattress for an older child / adult). The Garden Room is part of Thorndon House which was formerly a rectory built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The Garden Room has a comfy double bed with fresh linen, a snuggle blanket, cushions and a table with two chairs and also a comfy armchair which has recently been added. There is a microwave in case you would like to cater for yourselves in the evening with a micro meal or a spud. Alternatively, do order my homemade aga pizzas (variety of flavours). There is also a 32" TV for you to enjoy. The bathroom has a small sink, toilet and shower. Towels are provided. Tea and coffee facilities in each room with fresh milk (skimmed) in the fridge. . The fridge will also have fruit for each guest and some jams. Breakfast is all stored in the cupboards where you will find a selection of cereals. There is a toaster in your room so please so bring any bread of your choice however white bread will be provided.
There is no wardrobe but there are hooks and hangers for you to hang dresses, coats, jackets suits etc..
The room is in a fabulous location to go walking as there are miles and miles in all directions! There is a great walk along the River Exe to a wonderful pub The Lazy Toad in Bramford Speke or if you are feeling energetic there are walks to Silverton village or Thorverton. The very local village pub "Stoke Canon Inn" has been visited by many guests who have all mentioned how friendly it was. Stoke Canon inn have regular entertainment and serve food but not on a Monday. The pub is only a half mile down the road so very walkable. I would be very happy to point you in the right direction if you fancy a good walk. Maybe even a walk to the National Trust Killerton House.
You have wifi in the room, however, it is slow at times. Wifi is 100% available every evening after 6 pm and at weekends. During the day, if my husband is working from home it may not be possible to access wifi but he is normally working away during the week.
Wifi reliability is a little hit and miss. It can run quite slow sometimes so just turn off your devices and relax! x
There is a parking area directly outside the entrance to the Garden Room. The room is accessed via a separate door to the main house. The door leads into a hallway whereby any coats, shoes, wellies and umbrellas can be stored after a good walk through the beautiful countryside, woods and rivers. We have an umbrella for you to use at your leisure and for your convenience.
The Garden Room is very private as it has it's own entrance so you are able to come and go as you please without being disturbed.

So here are the house rules.
We are absolutely no smoking, sorry. Of course you can smoke outside but please do not leave any butts on the floor.
Noise should be kept to a minimum as we also have an annexe which is joined to the garden room via the en-suite. We would like to ask you to keep the door shut where possible to make your stay and our tenants stay more comfortable. All reusable items you find in the room are to be left for the other guests to enjoy. Thank you so much.
If you could park considerately it would be much appreciated.
If you are returning or arriving very late at night please do try to keep any noise down to a minimum as children and neighbours may be asleep.
If you could leave your shoes in the hallway it would be most appreciated.
Please do not flush anything other than the toilet paper provided in the toilet. This also would be very much appreciated. Xx
Please make sure the shower is tightly turned off otherwise you will be disturbed by a drip which also adds considerably to the water bill. X
If you intend on having a take away or a microwave meal please do feel free, however, please no curry! We all love a nice curry but the room is very hard to rid of the smell and it is quite unpleasant for the future guests. Can I ask you to pop all packaging in the large household bin provided outside the log store as soon as you have finished eating so there are no hard to get rid of smells for the next guests?
If you would like to make use of the garden please do ask as this may well be possible during school hours or if we are all out for the evening.
Thank you x
