The space

Escape to this private, peaceful, 550 square feet water tower suite nestled amongst the redwoods. This is the perfect place for a romantic get-away or some downtime. Sleep under the overhead and inspired sunflower, lit by the rays of the morning sun. Best of all, you'll be surrounded by plenty of tall trees and ocean breezes, with a location 2.75 miles east of the village of Mendocino.

The private (exclusive) bathroom has a roomy shower, indoor hot tub, beautiful stone counters, custom cabinets built by a local fine woodworker and radiant floor heating. The bedroom has the feel of a tree house, with a king sized comfy bed, good reading lights, flat screen TV, with Apple TV. Wake up to the sound of birds in the trees and sunlight filtering through the redwoods.

On chilly mornings, warm up in the private (exclusive) hot tub with a cup of coffee before heading out for the day. There is a downstairs entry room with all that you need to make that perfect cup of morning coffee, or tea, plus a small fridge for wine or leftovers (but no cooking allowed). The outdoor deck is set in a lovely Asian style garden, a perfect place to enjoy the outdoors.

The Water Tower makes for an ideal home base for exploring the fabulous Mendocino Coast. You will undoubtedly want to explore the historic, quaint and quirky coastal village and enjoy the many art galleries, restaurants, and shops. Take a walk on the Mendocino Headlands State Park and the majestic coastal bluffs of the Pacific Ocean. When you are done, wander back into town or a hot chocolate or glass of wine at the historic Mendocino Hotel.

The area is known for ocean kayaking hiking, and phenomenal mountain biking opportunities such as the beautiful Big River trail. You're also close to Russian Gulch State Park and the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse recreational areas for further adventures.

At the end of a day of adventuring along the Mendocino Coast, relax and enjoy your private hot tub in the luxurious bathroom, while sipping a glass of wine from one of the many wonderful local wineries.

Winter is a great time to visit the Mendocino area and experience the winter storms and watch the grey whales migrate from Alaska to Mexico.

Your bedroom and bathroom are in a converted water tower, attached to (but separate from) the historic lumber bunkhouse which has been converted into owner's current residence.

This space is not appropriate for children, or people who smoke, or pets. A personal vehicle is totally necessary in this area. No public transportation worthy of the name!

Guest access

Nature. Pacific Ocean. Big River.
Exclusive use of a private indoor hot tub in the downstairs bathroom (exclusive to your use while here), hallway with beverage bar, small deck outside for a cuppa or glass of wine overlooking the garden, and upstairs: the very private bedroom with California King bed and 55" LG OLED television.

Interaction with guests

As needed, the friendly-but-shy owners are available upon request.

As this room is primarily a fantastic place to sleep, the setup is very simple...

Other things to note

There is a small refrigerator and coffee and tea desk available in the downstairs Hallway, but no kitchen, microwave, and no cooking is allowed.

Also, the price posted includes the required 10% Occupancy and 1% other Mendocino County taxes. Some AirBnb listings do not actually remit these taxes to their city or county (and this is the one of the reasons AirBnb is being legislated against in many areas).

Unhappily, AirBnb does not allow these to be broken out separately. We receive the quoted price per night for our listing, and then we remit the 11% Occupancy Tax to our local county.

The Watertower in the Redwoods is a beautiful space. Everything about our stay was so thoughtfully prepared. Hope & Rennie have obviously put a great deal of love into the place. Thanks for having us!

My husband and I were in the area for my best friends wedding- and we had an amazing time at the water tower! It was amazingly furnished ( we air played The Simpson from my laptop to the TV ) and very spacious. Loved the decorations, and the smaller furnishings (iPhone charger, phone if you don't have reception!) really made me love it- the space is beautiful from top to bottom. The jacuzzi was awesome, and the bed was so comfortable it made it difficult to get out of every morning. The room is completely private if you're looking for privacy, but hope & Rennie are wonderful to talk to. Incredibly friendly and know the area very well so if you're looking for things to do they're great your guides :) would 100% recommend staying here- we're planning on always staying on the water tower whenever we're in the area! Ps: the toilet in the room is awesome I used it several times- don't knock it till you try it :)

I am traveling a lot with airbnb and I should say that I was pleasantly surprised with this place, it exceeded my expectations! I like water towers and already visited several in this area. It was the best one! Every detail is so considered, everything is labeled, everything is on its place and you don't need to worry about anything) The thing that attracted me to this place - the photos of bedroom ceiling - and it is even better in person! Liked the bed - very big and comfy. We also explored trails in the surrounding forest - you have several great options for 1-2h hikes.

My husband & I drove up the coast from San Francisco and we were just passing through the town of Mendicino, so we only stayed here for one night. The watertower place had a quiet, cozy, comfortable and homey feel. The bed was soft & comfortable. The toilet in the bedroom was different, but didn't bother us too much. Hope & Rennie welcomed us when we drove in. Rennie was very nice & took time to give us advice about traveling to Lake Tahoe (our next destination) as well as good places to eat in town. He gave us a tour when we got there & explained how to operate the electronics, etc. Overall, we were pleased with our stay.

I can hardly contain my utter adoration of this place and the host. I don't know where to begin...Just book it now and thank me later. I stayed one glorious night with my fiance on our romantic coastal drive. I arrived almost at midnight after an exhausting 6-hour drive and completely beaten down. Upon arrival my spirits were immediately lifted upon meeting our kind and gracious host Rennie, who was succinct (noting and respecting my apparent exhaustion) but thorough in acquainting us with the lovely space and meticulously, perfectly arranged amenities. The first thing i did was take a dip in the incredible hot tub- one word - WOW. it completely erased the brutal 6 hours of butt-numbing and teeth clenching driving - i was totally relaxed and slept in the incredibly comfotable bed which had a bed warmer! Best sleep in months. Waking up in a bed that looks like the inside of a giant flower, amidst panoramic redwoods was a joy I cant fully exress here. I made some of the delicious coffee they left for us and took a stroll through the immense redwoods that border the house. I had to do some work, and enjoyed the peaceful garden. The toiletries they leave for guests are lovely too. All in all it is a MUST, if i am ever in the area again I will certainly be back

Hope and Rennie are amazing hosts. They make sure you are comfortable and have everything you need for a relaxing stay. We are returning guests and can't wait to come back again. The space is very clean and well cared for. The Water Tower has stunning views of the surrounding redwoods, is very quiet and serene, and the bed is incredibly comfortable. It's the perfect weekend getaway to unplug and unwind. The patio is also so a lovely place to have your tea/coffee in the morning while enjoying the sounds of the fountain.

Water Tower in the Redwoods was the perfect location for our getaway together! Right down the road from the beautiful coastline of Mendocino, and yet tucked back in among some amazing redwoods! It truly is the best of both worlds. Rennie and Hope were the perfect hosts as well. Their attention to details was amazing ... even down to fresh flowers in the suite! They were very helpful with suggestions on places to go and enjoy, and were spot on in every time. The suite was a great country feel and at the same time had a feel of luxury! We didn't mind the outdoor stairs at all and while there is no kitchen here we easily found our way around town to eat more than enough! Overall, a tremendous experience with fantastic people!

Hope & Rennie User ProfileHope & Rennie is a superhost.

We are retired and love the idea of sharing our delightful spaces with people.

Rennie was a software developer, and Hope was a property manager.

We love to travel, especially when warm water is involved! Although we have traveled many places, our place on the Big Island Hawaii is our favorite place to enjoy rest and relaxation.
