About this listing

One-of-a-kind home built entirely out of local slate and stone. The house has been completely remodeled with new appliances and furnishings. The house sits directly above Redinger Lake, and is in close proximity to Bass Lake and just 38 miles to Yosemite's Southgate! Just up the road 4 miles is the beginning of the Sierra Scenic Byway, a beautiful 100 drive right through the heart of the Sierras. See scenic granite domes, lakes, vistas, wildlife, almost zero traffic, hiking, without any crowds!

The space

The house is a one bedroom with a sofa bed (w/a comfy memory foam mattress) in the living room as well as a single fold out cot. A rotating fireplace sits in the center of the house and can rotate between the living room, dining area, or the bedroom to heat that room. The one-of-a-kind shower reveals a 180 degree glass window view of the surrounding forest and lake. The kitchen has been fully remodeled with brand new appliance and granite counters. The slate deck is a great place to sit in the morning with a cup of coffee or at night while watching the sunset & countless stars. You've never stayed in home like this before! For a video tour go to YouTube & key in 'Redinger Retreat Rock House'. There is a dock for your boat that may be made available upon request.

You will have full access to everything in the house. If prearranged you may have "shared" access to one tie up at our dock. There is also a kayak that may be made available.

If I am available, I can help you with directions to sights in the area and outdoor activities nearby. I know of some mountain biking trails nearby, and would love to join guests on a ride if they would like!

There's no public transportation here in the mountains. If you plan on driving down our private road to our dock, you'll need a 4x4 truck or 4x4 SUV.

This house is perfect for the adventurer! Located at the exact center of California, this house is the perfect for folks who want get away from the literal & figurative noise in life & the city. Relax & do nothing, or hike, bike, boat & explore! Take a drive up the Sierra Scenic Byway, just 4 miles from the house. On Youtube key in "drive the Sierra Vista Byway" to see what a gem the Scenic Byway is.

FYI, all potential guests are required to email to us a photo of their drivers license, your home address, personal email address, and cell phone number.

Guest access

Guests have access to the entire home. Occasionally we allow access to our personal tandem kayak if requested in advance. You will also have access to our private patio and dark, unless we rented the rock house and the main house simultaneously. During those times renters in the main house have priority to the private dock. Dual renters have sold them occurred.

Interaction with guests

If I am available, I can help you with directions to sights in the area and outdoor activities nearby. I know of some biking/hiking trails nearby, and if I've got our boat in the water, & I have some free time, it's not unusual for us to take you out for an hour or so on our fabulous lake.

Other things to note

On holiday weekends there is a 3 day minimum stay. This is an "unplugged" experience, cell signal is weak, no internet & very remote home. Who wants to be bothered with emails or phone calls on vacation anyways? Guests requiring Internet can access at our main home. Ample cell signal is just up the road for those who "need" to use the phone. Since this is not the "city", doors should be closed at all times to keep wildlife outside (i.e. Rodents, deer, squirrels, raccoons, snakes, birds, bats, Bobcats, & cows). All renters will be asked for a photo of their driver license, email address, & home address to finalize rental.

We had a great time at the rock house. The house is unique and interesting. The patio has an amazing view of the lake. This is a great place if you want to relax and enjoy views of the lake. Tony and his wife were fantastic and went above and beyond to make our trip an enjoyable one.

If you are wanting a quiet place, overlooking a beautiful lake and valley, this is the place. Tony was so helpful giving us information about the location and commutes. I ran the Yosemite Half Marathon at Bass Lake, and he warned us of road closures in the area, and even looked on the race's website. There's a rotating fireplace that can be faced to the rooms in the house. It keeps the house warm. For your showering experience, this house let's you look out at the lake with a 180 degree view. At night, you can hear the sounds of the frogs, and see the stars vividly. The patio supplies a great view of the lake, and hills. We had a wonderful experience, and definitely will be staying there again.

Response from Tony:
Thanks for the comment on the dust. I did clean the house the day before I left on vacation, but then it sat for 10 days until you arrived. I guess we must have had some windy days while we were gone & living in the hills like we are wind must have been blowing in through the cooler on the roof, bringing in dust. I actually had covers on the sofas & bed to prevent that. I removed them just st before your arrival, but I guess I should have re-dusted. Sorry for the inconvenience!

We loved staying at the Rock Home! It was incredibly serene and relaxing. It's very remote, which we like, but there's everything you need to feel comfortable in the home. The architecture is funky and interesting. The view itself warrants 5 stars! Tony was a great host and made sure we had all the pertinent information before our arrival. We would definitely stay here again!

Tony is always amazing! He makes us feel welcome and treats us as if we were his guests. As a boating family, we love the access to the personal dock. The house is fully stocked with what a family needs to create an "at home" feeling when we get off of the lake. Although this is our last stay at the Rock house this season, we look forward many more stays next summer. Thanks Tony!

This was by far the best airbnb-experience we've had! Not only was the house just as beautiful and remote as described but Tony and Joyce were also kind enough to let us use their watersport-equipment and even take us out on the lake with their boat! It was truly an amazing experience as Redinger Lake is very quiet and there are not many tourists around. When exploring the lake we felt like the only people on earth. Thank you Tony and Joyce for the amazing time, the great company and the wake-surf-lessons!!

Great amazing place! Fresh Air, Dark skies for star gazing, and the shower view is a killer! Tony's directions were spot on and helpful - what a great guy! Bring a fridge full of food so you don't have to leave. Redinger Oasis is a Must. The Lake is quiet and great for floating around. You can get some service at the property but do yourself a favor; just unplug and enjoy!
