Description

The space

The Thorpe Family's 18th century homestead, a lovely Cape Cod-style colonial with large central chimney, original pine floors, exposed beams and other authentic period details. Has woodstove with glass door insert in the main fireplace in family room and a Monitor heating system to take the chill off in Spring or Fall. Sleeps up to ten in five bedrooms, as follows:
roombeds
1st floor, NE bedroomtwo twin beds
1st floor, SE bedroomone double bed
1st floor, S bedroomone twin bed
2nd floor, S bedroomone double bed
2nd floor, N bedroomthree twin beds

Two full baths -- one upstairs with shower (fully renovated for 2014),and one downstairs with claw foot tub and shower.

The house also features a simple but complete "un-fitted" farmhouse-style kitchen (unfitted meaning that it does not have the built in cabinets and counters found in modern kitchens). It is supplied with a full array of pots, pans, dishes and utensils. Linens and towels are also provided.

A large covered porch and a secluded patio offer water views in two different directions. Guests have access to the dock, tidal beach and other Harborfields amenities, including a coin laundry. No TVs, radios, or telephones, but we do offer free WiFi internet access on premises.

With about 1834 square feet of floor area, this old house is great for family reunions or small group retreats!

The 1780 Farmhouse is just one of nine different rental units available at Harborfields Waterfront Cottages, each one with its own unique and distinctive character (check them all out on our own online site). They are all basic, even rustic, but Harborfields offers incredible quiet simplicity, peaceful views, waterfront activities, and friendly hospitality! Ideal for an old-fashioned Maine vacation!

Planning an event? Harborfields is a great setting for weddings or other events of up to 150 guests -- please search for Harborfields Waterfront Weddings for more information.

Guest access

Harborfields guests have access to our dock, including rowboats and a kayak, WiFi internet, coin-op washer and dryer, and exchange of linens and towels as needed.

Interaction with guests

We are on-site in the main house, available to answer any questions, repair anything that might break down, and otherwise help make your stay as pleasant as possible. Once you are checked in, though, you are free to come and go as you please and only need to interact with us as much as YOU like.

The neighbourhood

Located on the west side of Boothbay Harbor, Harborfields is quiet and secluded but still only a short distance from the town center, where you can find an abundance of restaurants, shopping, and entertainment.

Getting around

One can get to Boothbay Harbor via public transport (train and trolley) and there are taxi services that serve the Boothbay Harbor area--the town is also reasonably walkable-- but the best bet is to bring your own car. We have plenty of parking here at Harborfields (there is room to park several cars right at the 1780 Farmhouse).

Other things to note

Sailboat and powerboat rentals are available from our dock via a partnership with West Harbor Recreation, Inc.

House Rules
No smoking
Check-in is after 3PM

We welcome your pets, although we do charge an additional pet fee ($75 per stay). Payment can be made upon arrival; we accept cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express.

Smoking is not allowed in any of the cottages at Harborfields.

Only the designated boats are available for guest use; the rest of the boats on the dock are private. Take lifejackets with you (available in the dock box). Wear them if you are a kid (or can't swim).

We do not clean or make beds during your stay. You may exchange your linens and towels as needed.

Given our waterfront location and the nature of our sewage disposal system, there are limitations on the types of things you can flush.

Free WiFi is provided as a convenience but is not guaranteed everywhere on the property or in all of the cottages all the time.

Please discuss your plans for an Event or Party with us before booking.

You agree to accept responsibility for your behavior and that of your guests, to pay for any damages, to acknowledge and accept all risks, and to release, hold harmless and indemnify us.

Beautiful location and great house. The house had everything we needed and had more than enough space. Tim was great. Extra perk was being right on the water!

Tim And Wendy User Profile

The Harborfields property has been in Wendy's family since 1832! The housekeeping cottage business was started by Wendy's grandparents in the late 1940's. Since Wendy's grandmother passed in 1984, the Thorpe family has hired a series of managers to operate the business for them. When in 2012 the most recent managers moved on to the next phase of their lives, Wendy and husband Tim stepped up to assume responsibility for managing the business, splitting their time between Boothbay Harbor and Keene, New Hampshire. Our teen-aged son Bennett represents the 7th generation of the Thorpe family to inhabit these shores!
