At the edge of the Quayaneri River which descends from the natural park of the dreary 3 Pitons in Dominica find the foundation Made In Zion. In the wilderness, self-contained habitats built of wood, bamboo and renewable materials. True school the Nature.
MIZ is a hybrid place shared by volunteers, tourists, students and local Rastas and Indians who participate in the foundation's projects. Tropical Permaculture, Seed Bank, dissemination of ancient and technical knowledge Low Tech DIY ....

The space

Built in wood and local materials, located in the heart of a verdant valley bordered by a natural mineral water river, this offer is for groups and explorers alike.

The place is managed collectively. In order to guarantee a fair operation between volunteers and visitors on holiday, you will have to exchange "LOVE"

Night: Between 2, 3 and 5 LOVE
Dinner / Meal: 2 LOVE
Beverage: 1 LOVE
Laundry: 1 LOVE

A Day worth 6 LOVE! Make bowls in coconut or calabash, help with the construction of a shelter, make the meal, housekeeping, the garden to win back your LOVE ...

At the end of your stay, you will be able to estimate the number of LOVE that you have offered to the community. Then we compensate by giving back LOVE to you. 1 LOVE = 10 EC $.

In this way each chosen according to his Karma of the moment. The sums paid allow the permanent staff and volunteers to maintain and evolve the place!

Currently 3 shelters welcome you:

- A carbet (45m ²) opened on the surrounding nature. 2 sofas & coffee table and 3 hammocks. Kitchen, sink, cupboards, shower, dry toilets, 12v solar lighting ...
Modular thanks to its movable furniture (in pallets), it will be living room, dining room, observatory, corner hammocks for the night. The kitchen is just below, the rain water feeds the sink, a gas cooker to cook the products you will have gleaned around. There is no fridge yet !!
The place changes according to the time. Nature Immersion!

- A cabin facing the ocean and the forest. Bungalow built in a traditional way (16m²) with terrace (6m²) facing the ocean, equipped with a comfortable queen size bed (+ 1 hammock optional). Relax under the stars. Watch the sun rise on its terrace. Romantic!

- A wooden shelter and zel 'mouche. Built according to the techniques of the Caribbean Indians. These shelters are authentic and immerse you in another time. The volunteers have the mission of building their shelters nature: wood, bamboo, earth ... Install your camp bed and go back time;)

Near the river, you can plant tents on the ground (borrow a shovel to level the ground) ... The river is mineral water and natural. Perfect as a base camp for hiking and discovering the fauna and wild flora of Dominica.

Guest access

You have access to the entire site shared with the other occupants.

Numerous walks to discover the surrounding rivers and beaches are directly accessible. Afrika can guide you through the forest and the mountain to reach sites otherwise inaccessible ...

MIZ is located 1 mile from the main road along the beach of Bout de Sable. If you come by TaxiCo (10 to 20 EC$ ), plan to walk this way !! This will be the cheapest (but not so) option, but beware of big suitcases, backpack recommended ... Roots style guaranteed inside ...

The best option, cheaper and more convenient than renting your own car: Make use of our 4x4 to visit the surroundings. Typical and authentic places guaranteed ...
Announcement: AIRBNB

Hope to see you soon;)

Interaction with guests

If necessary, I will give you all the contacts and useful addresses to rent a car, do your shopping, wash your clothes, discover the wonders of the surroundings. You will find everything you need for your stay on site.

But to facilitate your arrivals and departures, equip yourself with sheets or sleeping bag, flashlight, batteries, toilet paper, basic food products (oil, flour, sugar, ground coffee, pasta, sardines, honey ...) And elaborated (your favorite treats).

You will find fruits and vegetables from seasons easily while traveling around but little trade as you hear. Reed remains the place where to find cash and international foodstuffs. A converter 220v (EUR) and USB equips the bungalow and kitchen, you can recharge your phone, tablet or laptop.

Internet access is available at the RiverSide Restaurant in Citrus Creek near the main road (20 to 25 mins walk by the river).

Other things to note

This wilderness site is located 1.5 km from the main road, it took almost 4 years to build it in its current version ... All the necessary to modern life has been installed: solar electricity, water, Gas, toilet, kitchen, living room, bedroom, camp bed, hammocks. 8 people can live there (12 a little more cramped), and more in camping near the river (tent 3 places available).

The planting of the garden in permaculture began in 2016. You will be able to learn the virtues of the plants and to nourish you with fresh products when the season is propitious ... 2017 is bamboo

In the corner you will meet Hilari farmer and cow breeder. But also Afrika, Melody or Joel Rastas of Zion and fantastic guides of the surroundings and the wild life (do not be shocked by their attitude or their appearance. Rastas hunters, gatherers, they have a completely different culture than ours).

Discover with them how to live and enjoy the Zion in harmony. Taste a fresh coconut in the morning, make your oil, sugar, learn how to handle the machete, identify edible plants, make a shelter, hunt crabs, make a fire and dine with a River Zion Pot ... You challenge them on the activity you like ...

Make your vacation a learning experience of Nature !!

The amount of your payment is used to maintain the 4x4 (almost 2000 € of annual fees), & to finance the MIZ projects (go to our website - Made in Zion point Org - to discover and add yours to them ...)

Offer your guide 60 XCD$ (island minimal local wage) as a thank you;)

A fair remuneration would be rather 60 US$. But to avoid pushing them to alcohol consumption or financial waste (the hunter picker rather cicadas mismanages capitalism!). We introduced the LOVE as a currency to reconcile the solidarity economy with the monetary syst em.

You can transfer your donations to our organization to help a project come to fruition, to help your local guides to save and to take the hard blows often encountered during the rainy season.

Remember that we imposed trade and money on them ...

If they seem too invasive, do not hesitate to ask them politely to leave you alone.

No ATMs on Island elsewhere!!
