Dutchess is a small guesthouse with only 5 rooms, but with the facilities of a hotel. The restaurant of the guesthouse is our special attraction. Your luxury a-la-carte breakfast with e.g. cappuccino is unforgettable. For lunch and dinner we serve salads, sandwiches, crocodile burger or many international main courses like porterhouse steak or fish fillet with pesto. Not to mention our famous pizza from a real wood-oven. Many items are home-made like the bread, jam, cheese, yoghurt, ice cream and ham. The restaurant is open from 7am - 11pm.
Other things to note
Fort Portal is the ideal hub for many activities and visiting National Parks. Look for monkeys and chimpansees at Kibale Forest and the crater lakes, walk in the Rift Valley and the Rwenzori mountains, make a mountain bike tour or visit a tea plantation.
In our hotel room and on the website you can find detailed information about all activities. We are available to give you advice and in our shop we have maps of the area.

Heleen and Michel started Dutchess in 2012. Setting up the guesthouse, restaurant, internet café and cheese factory (soon to come) is fulfilling our dream. Our dream is based on some of our hobbies; good food, making cheese and ICT. But also on developing the local economy by using local staff and suppliers to set up an ecological friendly business.
These principles can found back in our building and menu. For example the back fence is primarily made of left over iron sheets and we use solar heaters for the showers. All wood work and metal fences were made by carpenters and welders from Fort Portal. Except from our “Old Dutch” toilet decorations all material was bought locally.
Most our food is delivered by a wide range of local suppliers in the area. for products that are not available, like jam or pesto, our chefs make it themselves with local natural ingredients. In this way we hope to stimulate the economy to allow for more development in the region.
