About this listing
Facing the Intercoastal Waterway, this spot is the best of all worlds... seconds from some of the best golf in the area, minutes to Sunset Beach and Calabash, and exactly 18 minutes from Myrtle Beach.
We are so happy that you have chosen our home for your vacation rental. When we say “home,” we mean it… this place has been in our family for almost 50 years, built originally by Trish’s Grandfather in 1971. Trish held her Grandfather’s hand as he carefully walked her through the construction of what was to be this home at Sunset Beach, after moving from nearby Bethel, NC, where he was a very successful farmer.
This was our Grandparents’ home, then our Mother’s home… and now it’s our place. We’ll eventually retire here one day (sooner, if 100% telework ever becomes a reality in our careers), but until then, we’ve decided to share this great location with nice people like YOU! Take a look out of the front windows. Doesn’t quite seem fair to keep this view to ourselves, does it?
The view from the front windows is of the Intercoastal Waterway, a man-made channel that runs 3,000 miles down the coast of the Eastern US. In no time, you’ll see a variety of watercraft easing along (or in the case of Shrimp boats, trolling along) the water. This was our favorite thing to do as kids… sitting on our knees on the sofa, facing the window, (the same one you’ll see with the palm trees on it—in that same location), watching the boats go by.
The view from the deck is of one of Sunset Beach’s Twin Lakes, and the 13th green of Oyster Bay Golf Course. While it looks serene, please be mindful that there are indeed LIVE ALLIGATORS in this lake. The largest, “Big Daddy,” measures at over 14 feet long, and actually lives in the lower left corner of our yard at the bottom of the hill. You will probably catch a glimpse of our ‘gators on a sunny day, as they pull up on the bank to sun themselves. By all means… watch them, but from a good distance. Alligators are FAST movers! You may also see a large turtle or two… and they are “locals” as well, burying their eggs in the sandy soil of our yard.
So, you’ve got the beach, and you’ve got the lake. You’ve got a nice quiet place to stay… with amazing proximity to the Grand Strand, Myrtle Beach. It’s the best of all worlds, and we’re so happy that you chose our place as your getaway. Kick off your shoes, relax, and enjoy, y’all!
