About this listing
"Ellis" is a cute fully heated and winterized camp cottage built in the 1960's by the students of Ellis Tech. It has two bedrooms and sleeps 4. The detached bunkhouse is included and has 3 single beds. Very peaceful lakeside location on Beach Pond. Walking distance to trails. Enjoy the quintessential lakeside vacation!
Ellis has two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with two single beds. Included in the price is a detached bunkhouse that has 3 single beds. The space is newly remodeled and very cozy! Full kitchen with 2 burner gas stove and oven, refrigerator, and microwave. The kitchen has a table with 4 chairs and a small love seat. The bathroom has a shower, small sink and toilet. There is no TV. (you won't miss it, we promise!) Ellis has a lovely porch on the front with views of Beach Pond. This is not a secluded cabin. There is a house next door, another cabin behind, and a camp trailer that is occasionally occupied across the driveway. See the aerial photos in the listing to get a better feel for the layout.
The Top 3 questions we get:
1. Do we need to bring firewood?
You are welcome to collect deadwood from the forest surrounding the cabin for free. We also provide firewood bundles for $3/bundle.
2. Does the cabin have pots and pans and linens?
Yes, the cabin is equipped with everything you need for basic cooking and has linens and towels.
3. Does the sauna work?
Yes! The sauna is available year round.
Guests have private access to the entire cabin and bunkhouse. A short 300 foot walk from the porch leads to the property's private beach which guests are welcome to use. There is a picnic table and multiple fire pits for campfires. Guests are also welcome to use our 10 person wood fired Finnish sauna. The sauna has a lakeside deck and direct access to the water for a dip. Guests are welcome to use kayaks, canoe, paddle boat, paddle board, and row boat.
Interaction with guests
Typically, we will be on the property for some part of every day as we live in the main house. If for some reason, we are not around, we have a list of phone numbers in the cabin if you should need assistance with anything. For an additional fee we can provide guided hikes in beautiful Pachaug State Forest upon request.
Other things to note
We have another cabin on the property, one camp trailer (in the summer) as well as two main houses. We have many family members on the property at any given time and all are friendly and happy you are staying with us! Just remember that there are other people living here, so we expect respect for them as far as noise.
Check-in is 3 PM
Check-out is 12 PM
No smoking inside the cabin or on the porch. You may smoke a distance away, but please do not throw your butts on the ground.
Please leave the cabin in the same condition you found it. This cabin has been rented to the same families for nearly 50 years. Multiple generations have grown up here coming every summer. They love it and have many fond memories of it. Let's preserve it for the next 50 years! Please sweep and tidy up before you leave.
Life jackets are required when taking any of the watercraft out on the lake. We have plenty that you can borrow.
Pets: We do allow pets, however we expect our guests to take care of them. ALL PETS MUST BE ON A LEASH OUTSIDE. Please pick up pet droppings immediately and dispose of them properly. If you need to leave your pets in the cabin when you go out, they MUST be in a kennel. We can provide one if needed. This is to protect our cabins from damage. Many pets get fearful when left alone in a new place. We've have dogs break screens and get out while owners were away. That is why we instituted the kennel rule. Please do not let pets on the beds or furniture. If you cannot keep pets off the furniture, please do not bring them with you.
You may collect dead wood from the forest for campfires for free. We also provide firewood bundles for $3.
Cancel up to 5 days before your trip and get a full refund, including service fees.

I have recently left my 16 year corporate career in the pharma industry to becoming a full time AirBnB host. There is nothing I enjoy more than sharing my spaces with my guests and meeting people from all over the world. I get a lot of satisfaction out of providing more than just a place to sleep, but a special experience that my guests will remember.
I also own and instruct at two aerial fitness studios and am an avid Acro Yogi with my husband. I have a zeal for adventure and travel is my greatest indulgence. I'm happy to leave the cities and shopping to the tourists and eat and hike my way on the less beaten path. As an AirBnB guest, I always try to leave the space a bit better than I found it and have been known to clean stove pans or ceiling fans or some other task I know hosts hate to do.
We have two kids, ages 7 and 10, 1 cat, a dog, 2 horses, and 2 hermit crabs.
AirBnB has made the news a lot recently for listings that are managed by a property manager and not actual homes. Although I have many listings, I manage all my own listings and only hire cleaning help for my apartment. We have owned our house in Pawcatuck for 15 years and our lake house for 14 years (Although it has been in the family since the 60's) We have been doing short term rentals since long before AirBnB existed. My style as an AirBnB host is simple, gracious, and friendly. We are all in this together, so let's make the best of it and enjoy the adventure! What I enjoy most about being a host is the continuous improvement process. I love to hear feedback and tweak my listings so they are always the best they can be! My favorite kind of guest is one who appreciates my space and gives me thoughtful suggestions. I also appreciate guests who see the human side of hosting and know that although I strive for perfection, no one can ever be perfect. Sometimes I miss a crumb on the stove and I never iron my sheets!
