Ploughman's Cottage is a truly unique holiday cottage. Traditional looking but with a modern designer feel including high quality fittings and fixtures. In a fantastic remote location near to white sandy beaches and beautiful walks.

The space

A couple of things to note: Ploughman's Cottage is accessable via a two mile, bumpy farm track - it is suitable for normal cars but can, depending on how much rain we have had, be more difficult at times. Due to the logistics of getting to our property (roughly 5 - 6 hours from central Scotland) we have found that guests only staying for two nights usually leave frustrated that they didn't stay at least one extra night because there was so much they didn't get to see. The Isle of Mull is over 70 miles long and the two main attractions, Iona and Tobermory, are at opposite ends of the island - this leaves very little time to fully explore the island with only a two night stay. We therefore recommend three nights minimum.

A perfect getaway. Peace, natural beauty and escapism. As well as watching wildlife pass by from a fantastically appointed home we also enjoyed time walking, visiting some of the most stunning, empty beaches we've ever come across and boat trips to Iona and Staffa. A great first visit to the Isle of Mull

Just back from an amazing 4 days at Ploughmans Cottage. Beautiful, clean, well-appointed cosy cottage with a real log fire. Great base for exploring Iona and Staffa. The scenery was stunning, surrounded by wildlife including deer and golden eagles. Loads of walks to do in surrounding area, and secret beaches to discover. We felt like we had the whole area to ourselves. Remote, secluded retreat, great to get away from it all. Local village has a shop for the essentials and a great wee restaurant called the Blackbird Bistro. The host Scott was very easy to communicate with, quick to respond to queries, and although he was not there when we stayed, he called us on the first day to make sure we arrived ok and gave us tips on what to do in the surrounding area. Would highly recommend this place.

You can walk to a beautiful beach or stay at the cottage watching the "traffic" - sheep, deer, the resident hen, the neighbor's pickup truck. You can count the animals outside (farm and wild, 4-legged or winged) and later find all the figures and photos and paintings of creatures inside. Either way, you'll feel like the sky is there for you to touch, and the hills for you to walk.

Scott was very welcoming and met us on arrival (even though we were late). The cottage is exceptional with all modern features and is in a beautiful and quiet location with sandy beaches and hidden coves just a short walk away. Great base for exploring the Ross of Mull and the islands of Iona and Staffa.

Scott's cottage is an incredible getaway on the Isle of Mull. Scott was friendly and quick to respond which made organizing our trip fluid. The cottage is stocked with all of the essentials, plus the scenery is breath taking. Arrive with groceries and you could stay for days!

At the end of the road in from the lovely village of Bunessan we were rewarded by the beautiful and well equipped Ploughman's Cottage whose remote location was lovely for being among nature alongside some fantastic beaches and walks. The cottage was a perfect retreat. We loved it!

Scott was very kind to us from the initial booking. We stayed only for 2 nights as part of a short 'mini-moon' after our wedding which is usually less time than he allows due to peak season and he advised us to book for longer from the offset. On initial arrival Scott was there to greet us and was very kind and welcoming. He showed us around the whole cottage and pointed out features in the area that may be of interest. The cottage itself is stunningly beautiful and very well maintained. Very clean and tidy with all amenities as advertised. The upstairs is small and so taller guests will have to watch their heads. If you like the sound of rain on a tent/caravan however, then it's definitely for you. The views are astonishing as every where you turn there is a photo opportunity. The surrounding area is stunning but it should be born in mind that it is very rural. The last 2 miles of road to the cottage is all farm track and so takes time in the car and you'll need to take supplies with you as the nearest convenience store is quite a journey. Just things to bare in mind for those of you who like the convenience of a shop or bus stop close outside your house. However the views, quite atmosphere and walks make the whole experience worth it. There is a short walk to a secluded beach not far from the cottage that is definitely worth a look. Around the local area there are villages with convenience stores and pubs that sell food. The village of Fionnphort is about 25 minutes away (traffic depending). From here you can get the ferry to Iona which is a worthy visit, as well as boat trips to Staffa Island and many others. It should be kept in mind that almost all the roads on Mull are single track with passing places. For those who like to be close to all conveniences of town and an active night life this probably won't be the location for you. If you're like us however and you love a break from the hustle and bustle of city life to a much more peaceful, quieter, very rural break then this is perfect. And Scott was right... we did want to stay longer!
