Description

The space

We have 3 bedrooms each with a private bathroom. Feel free to use our kitchen, living room and patio where you can relax and listen to birds and peacocks. The occasional monkey also makes an appearance. You can store your surfboards in our living room so they don't take up space in your room. Each room is furnished with a king sized bed, mosquito net, ceiling fan, clothes rack and small table for storage. Bathrooms are modern and recently updated.

This room does not have an A.C. but one of our other rooms does. We also have a third room which is for the more budget conscious traveler. Please see our other listings for details.

Guest access

Bedroom with private bathroom. Shared kitchen, living room and covered patio.

Interaction with guests

You'll be staying in our family home and we're available for anything you might need. Malika is happy to cook you a delicious, Sri Lankan meal. Her husband is a fisherman so you'll have access to fresh seafood daily. Their son Dinesh will be your main point of contact. He speaks English very well, so communication is not a problem. He also has a tuk tuk and is happy to drive you to different beaches or for sightseeing. He's a surfer as well so he's familiar with all the local surf points. If there's anything you need, just ask.

The neighbourhood

Mirissa is a very laid back fishing village with a great surf point, restaurants along the beach and shops on the main road. Peaceful Villa is located across the street from a Buddhist temple. 3 minute walk to the main street with shops and restaurants in one direction, 3 minute walk to beach in the other direction.

Getting around

Mirissa is a small village and it's easy to walk anywhere. 3 minute walk to the nearest surf point. 10 minute tuk tuk ride to Weligama Beach, excellent beginner surf break. Close to public transportation (bus, tuk tuk, taxi) and within walking distance of shops, bars and restaurants. 3 hours to Yala park, 45 minutes to Galle, 35 minutes to Unawatuna, big Buddha statue in Matara. And whale watching right here in Mirissa. Dinesh is happy to drive you in his tuk tuk or arrange a taxi for you.

Other things to note

Getting to Peaceful Villa from Colombo is fairly straightforward. Take a train headed to Matara and get off at the Weligama station. You can also take a bus to Weligama. Dinesh can arrange to pick you up from there, or you can take any tuk tuk to Sunanda Road in Mirissa (tuk tuk will be 300 rupees).

A very nice location, 5 minutes to the beach, 5 minutes the other way to the main road and restaurants. Comfortable king size bed but small bedroom. Good sized bathroom. Excellent outside front porch with small dining table. Our host, Dinesh was friendly and helpful. Dinesh's mother, Mallika prepared dinner for us 6 out of 7 nights. The food was excellent as evidenced by the number of meals we had there. The room had no air conditioning but had an effective fan.

Location of Peaceful Villa was perfect, close enough to the beach (5 min walk), but far enough from the noise. Rooms were clean, bed comfortable and room with the fan only (non ac) was the best for the climate in Mirissa. Peaceful Villa has nice veranda to relax or to have breakfast and dinner. We ended up to eat here most of the evenings as well as the breakfast, Dinesh's mom Mallinka was excellent cook. Her cooking was definitely the best in Mirissa. The hosts Dinesh and his mom were very kind, friendly and helpful. Dinesh helped us with all our requests like organising whale watching, massage in Secret Root Spa (highly recommend ayurvedic massage) and a driver to next location in Sri Lanka. Me and my friend were travelling with budget/backpacking in Sri Lanka. Our stay in Peaceful Villa was beyond our expectation and we highly recommend to stay in Peaceful Villa.

Cosy fan room with comfy bed and private bathroom. Cold freshly squeezed juice on arrival and a lovely New Year's Day breakfast from Mum made it!

Friendly and helpful hosts, can seem shy, but are not. Dinesh is the only one speaking English. His mother is making the food, and she is good at it.

We stayed at Dinesh's guesthouse for a week and the room was good value for money, it is basic, but very clean and they are friendly and helpful. It's a few couple of minutes walk from the beach and easily accessible to the main road, but far back enough that it isn't noisy. One of our favourite things about the stay was the food, after having dinner there once we ended up eating there every evening and both said that the rice and curry was some of the best that we ate in 3 weeks in Sri Lanka, one evening we even invited a group of friends over for dinner and they all loved it. We really think they should open a restaurant.

We loved our stay here! Denish and his mum and dad are so friendly and helpful. We only booked two nights here, but ended up staying a week:) Denish arranged diving, whalesafari ,ayurveda(massage), scooterhire and transport everywhere we wanted;perfect! His mum makes the best pancakes, juice and sri lankan breakfast! His dad's in charge of the security:) The rooms are simple and clean with comfortable beds. The fact that there's a fridge and a peaceful porch is also a plus:) We would absolutely recommend this place! Hopefully we will see them again:) Christine & Eivind (Norway)

I stayed for 4 nights at the beginning of January. It's a great place to stay because it's away from the crowds but still close to the beach and the village. The room was comfortable and quite cool. Nice bed with good mattress. Breakfast was good and I ate my evening meals there too. Good authentic local food. Very nice. Dinesh and his family were very welcoming and friendly. Lovely hosts. During my 4 day stay, I didn't see any of the daytime stripey leg mosquitos mentioned by a previous guest. I had no mosquitos in my net either. Highly recommended.

Ayubowen! I'm Dinesh and I've lived in Mirissa my whole life. When I'm not helping run my family's guesthouse, I drive a tuk tuk, raise two sons with my wife and try to find time to go surfing.
