We had a nice stay in Ana and Pedro's place. It had everything we needed and was very good value for money. It is quite small but that is ok as we were not going to be spending a lot of time inside but exploring the city! It is right in the heart of the alfama. As long as you don't mind hills it is a very pretty neighbourhood, and has the famous no. 28 tram that goes past the apartment. It is also very well situated for walking into the centre of Lisbon - about 20 minutes, we actually hardly used any public transport at all because of this which was great. The only thing was that there was a problem with the boiler and we did not have hot water in the shower. This was a little annoying, especially after a day at the beach. Ana and Pedro responded quickly to our message about this and arranged for someone to come around but he did not have a key and we were not in the appartment. As this was our holiday, we were not going to be in at all really so it would have been better if someone who had access to the flat could have come around. However, all in all it was a comfortable stay and a great option if you are on a budget and although we never met Ana and Pedro, they were very helpful and accommodating hosts.
Ana & Pedro were very helpful hosts, communication was very easy and although they were not around themselves for check-in they left clear instructions and the family members that checked us in were very helpful and informative. The apartment is very compact but excellent value for money as it is very well-located, walking distance from the Santa Apolonia train station we came in from and in the middle of the amazing, picturesque Alfama district. We met Pedro at check out and he was very informative and helpful. We definitely hope to return - 3 days was not enough!
This apartment is well located in the Alfama neighbourhood which is quiet, scenic, safe and has plenty of restaurants. The apartment is very small but has everything needed for a short stay in this beautiful city. The apartment had a lot of moisture which we were unable to get rid of due to few windows. This was a considerable problem for us as it made our clothing and bedding feel damp throughout our stay.
I would have rated as a 4/5 except for the lack of an 'information sheet' giving details of where I can find certain things (iron, ironing board etc), plus the fact that the boiler runs from a plug-in power source - which it took almost a day and a half to realise was unplugged (ie not hot water at all for showers) after speaking with the host and a technician being sent to the apartment! In the UK we do not run boilers this way. So it would be VERY useful to have known this in advance, or to have had something displayed in the apartment. Otherwise a great budget option, and Ana and her family were very helpful and easy to contact. Thanks!
Lovely little apartment in Alfama - very small but perfect for 2 people who just want a base to explore Lisbon. The famous Tram 28 does stop outside but it's often so busy you can't rely on it to get you into town - Tram number 12e stops 5 mins away so is a good option. The host also was able to arrange a really nice driver to pick us up from the airport too.
