The flat is cheap but it’s very dirty with food from the previous customers. Some mice and little creatures might come to visit you. Hannelore is nice but not very helpful... she told us the mice are more scared of us than we are... She tried to get rid of them so it’s okay. I wa…

I am very surprised to read this review. I hope that many of you, who read this most negative review I ever got in the past 5 years (I think the only one I ever got), you will read my lengthy response below. I am very proud of all the positive feedback I got from previous guests, and the pictures on the wall, which are "Memory Boards" (a kind of guest books) get great reviews as well! Will update my picture gallery, that is for sure! I spent a lot of time welcoming Nicolas and his family (over an hour), explaining much about the transportation and special sites to see and do (and not to do) in NYC. The lack of cleaning the refrigerator was due to an oversight of new house keeper, and I rectified this immediately by correcting the situation. There were no crumbs on the floor, actually the kitchen floor was scrubbed and polished; the housekeeper assured me that she vacuumed the carpets and dusted everything! It definitely was NOT "very dirty". I have been a host for 5 years, I do notice "dirt". I apologized about the little mouse that came along through the window from the roofdeck (they left the window open) because of the change in temperature. It got caught the next day, and my remark was only to make "mother" at ease! Apparently Nicolas never read the document I send all my when they book with detailed instructions how to get to the house, with links to the various websites of public transportation. This document also includes the information on a local car service, which I recommend to guests, especially if they are more than 2 persons with luggage and if they are arriving late. I do call it a "limoservice", for Europeans, as the term "car service" is not readily used like in the U.S. The cost is almost the same as the airport bus and the connecting commuter bus if there are more than 3 in the party. There is lots of information on my bulletin board including information on transportation, as well as a (Hidden by Airbnb) map of the local streets indicating the various grocery shops, bodegas and more. They came unprepared, not even a guide to New York, which most guests have. There are plenty in the apartment, but they did not even look. I am not a tour guide, although I gladly explain NYC and it's specials to all my guests when I welcome them, as I did with Nicolas. Maybe because the rest of the party didn't speak a word of English where the misunderstandings came from? I am glad at least they liked the donuts, the local transport and NO, the neighbor is not rich, but not poor, it is a working class neighborhood, lots of families, very clean streets and very safe. Isn't that what AirBnB is all about" "Live like a Local!" If Nicolas wanted a flat in an upscale location, he could have rented one at Trump Towers on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan for $500 a night or more! I do hope that their visit was not all that negative as they made it out to be!
Apartment was comfortable, shower room is lovely, but not enough dining seating for more than 4 people. The location is two blocks away from where street scene photo's suggest, so view from front of property is over a car park not a small park area. There was a problem with the f…

Thanks for your nice words Tricia ... There are other alternatives to travel between Manhattan & Union City, so next time you come I will explain. It is also mentioned in my listing and "transportation" :-) A TV was never asked for, as visitors do have their own devices and use the WiFi to stream! But thank you for the suggestion.

Emigrated to the US from Vienna, Austria and lived in New York City for 25 years before moving to New Jersey. I consider myself more of a true New Yorker, but did not forget my heritage - love Vienna and the Viennese/Austrian culture. New York is my second home and that is why I …
