Interaction with Guests

The late Gabriel Garcia Marquez could not have found any other city as full of magic and charm as Cartagena de Indias.
Some of the most memorable passages of his novel "Love in the Time of Cholera" take place in the deserted "Parque de los Evangelios ", or "Plaza Fernandez de Madrid", as it is known today, in honor of an important doctor and historical figure by the name of Jose Fernandez de Madrid.
It was in this square that the starry-eyed Florentino Ariza sat with a book of poetry under an almond tree hoping to catch a glimpe of his beloved Fermina Daza who lived with her over-bearing father in the house across the street. In reality this house, one of the oldest in the Old City, is known as Casa de Don Benito, which today is a beautifully restored private residence located next to the L'Aliance Francesa. Interestingly enough, there is a knocker in the shape of a parrot on the front door - a reference no doubt to the quirky ominous opening sequence of the novel "Love in the Time of Cholera"...
This property is just steps away from restaurants, bars, pizzerias, supermarkets, banks, and nearly all the historic sites. Public transit a few blocks outside the walled city although taxis abound at reasonable rates.
Other Things to Note
"Plaza Fernandez de Madrid" is one of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's favorite squares, which inspired

Maria was extremely nice and flexible. We could change the date of the booking without any problems.
Also the apartment is right in the center of the town great location! It is part of a small bed and breakfast.
Now the loft was kind of a disappointment:
- noisy: we could hear too much our neighbors.
- at night, the lighting bulbs are very white and unpleasant.
- no hot water. Just tepid
- the air conditioning and the fan don't work very well
- WiFi was not working properly and I had to go to the lobby to use it.
So, no a great experience
Very nice appart hotel in Cartagena. Staff is very kind and helpful and location is very nice
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights while we were visiting Cartagena and we were very happy with our choice. The loft is in a perfect location, so it was easy to walk everywhere we wanted to go. The staff was very friendly and helpful and it was nice to have the AC and the extra space that the loft provided. We highly recommned this place to anyone visiting Cartagena!
The apartment was perfectly located in the center of the San Diego district within the walls of the old town. It's right in plaza Fernandez de Madrid which has lots of restaurants & bars. Good Cuban rum & Cuban cigars at Tobacco y Ron for much cheaper prices then on the other side of the old town.
We really enjoyed the loft-style apartment because it provides much more space than just a regular studio. The apartment is clean, simple but tastefully decorated, and comfortable. The bed is nice and firm. The only thing that could be improved upon is the shower...the water pressure is pretty weak & the shower head needs replacement--it spits all over the place and ends up soaking the bathroom floor. Other than that the apartment was great!
The staff at the apt complex are very nice and helpful. Breakfast is good. One thing to be aware of: the tours they offer from the apt complex are 2-3x more expensive than what you can find in the street. We booked a tour to playa Blanca & isla del Rosario for 45,000 COP in the street. The staff at the apartment were offering the same tour for 120,000 COP. Just be aware of that.
All in all a wonderful apartment in a great location for a great price!
Our stay was wonderful! The room was exactly how it looked in the images, and the building itself is beautiful. We were warmly welcomed and all of our questions about the city were graciously answered. Thank you maria and john!
