The old summer barn of Hovelsrud Gård is idyllically located between Mjøsa and a rolling cornfield – a simple and unique place for those who want to get close to nature and enjoy the tranquillity of Helgøya.

The house is best suited for a couple or a small family with up to two children. Inside, there is a bedroom and an open-plan living room. Outside there is a kitchen counter, with a gas burner and barbecue, a small beach with swimming opportunities and an outdoor toilet. There is no electricity.

The space

The house is best suited for a couple or a small family with up to two children. Inside, there is a bedroom and an open-plan living room. Outside there is a kitchen counter, with a gas hob and barbecue, a small beach where you can swim and an outdoor toilet. There is no electricity.

We'll make the double bed (note that there is a double duvet) and provide towels. You'll get barbecue charcoal, lighter fluid, matches and tea lights – and a thermos with hot water, coffee and tea. The next morning, we'll deliver breakfast whenever you want it.

Many of our guests buy ready meals at Matfatet in Brumunddal – they make great takeaways, including with our own organic chicken. Remember to call and book in advance. Nearby, you will also find Sterud Mat and Hygge på Tingnes, and at the marina on Helgøya, you will find Øya Maritim with baked potatoes. If you would like a great dinner, Hoel Gård offers dinner by prior reservation.

If you want to make more sophisticated food yourself, bring your own equipment – the kitchen bench outside does not have kitchen equipment.

Check-in from 2 pm, check-out by 12. Please send us a message about when you plan to arrive – we will welcome you in the courtyard and accompany you down to Sommerfjøset. The car can be driven right up to it, as long as the ground is not too soft. You can also use the guest toilet in the barn if needed.
In the area. Note: If you have children, you must bring a sleeping bag for them, so they can sleep on the sofa bed.

You are very welcome to take an evening stroll in our historic garden. Otherwise, we recommend stopping by Skafferiet – the lovely café in the neighbouring courtyard – or trying Helgøya climbing park. For more activities on Nes and Helgøya, see the Midt i Mjøsa website.

Guest access
There is a floating jetty outside Sommerfjøset. You can drive all the way up, unless it has rained a lot, then the road is too wet.

Other things to note
There is a bedroom with a double bed. Here it is made with bed linen. Children can sleep in the "sofa corner", which consists of 3 mattresses. To sleep here you must bring a sleeping bag. Probably best suited for children under 12-14 years.
