This quaint 2 bedroomed, 3 storey, listed, stone terrace cottage set in the World Heritage site of the Derwent Valley Mills at Milford. A former millworker’s cottage built around 1800 by the River Derwent and overlooking woodland and hills. In a street scene of listed cottages providing a quiet area with a bygone feel.
Beautifully restored in 2023, with a double and twin rooms, full bathroom, dining room and lounge with log burner. Easy walks to great pubs and restaurants.
Sleeps 4, + 1 dog.

The space
This cottage was re-furbished and came available a couple of years ago, so everything in it is bang up to date.
You enter off the quaint street scene into a cosy lounge with log burner and large comfy sofa.
Adjoining is the well presented modern kitchen with oven and hob, fridge freezer, microwave, washing machine and dolce gusto coffee machine.

From the kitchen up the original stone stairs you find a dining room with vintage furniture overlooking the River Derwent and Chevin hills.
On this floor is the twin room with its black iron beds, original fireplace and sash window.
The traditional bathroom suite is on the first floor featuring bath and shower over, WC and sink. All toiletries are provided along with towels.

Finally up some steep original stairs tucked away on the 2nd floor is the master bedroom with its double bed. Views of the River Derwent from the south facing sash window. We’d advise this room for mobile adults only.

Leading off the kitchen down some quite steep steps is the private gravelled outdoor area which is a perfect sun trap with outdoor furniture for 4 people .

This cottage is one of two we run on airbnb the other is a cosy bolthole by the sea in Robin Hoods Bay , North Yorkshire.

Guest access
You will have the whole of this lovely 3 storey cottage top to bottom all to yourselves. Outside a private gravelled area for sitting out. There are foot thick walls between neighbours in this row, so no sounds from next door.
Access is by keycode which is given out just prior to your arrival.

All arrival information will arrive 9 or 10 days prior to arrival date.
We will give location, key code and parking information.

Other things to note
This stone cottage was added a couple of years ago and along with our other cottage we have had over 400 x 5 star reviews in a row! and been awarded Superhost status 19 quarters in a row.
As former hoteliers, and airbnb hosts for 5 years, we’ve learnt a bit over the years what makes a good place to stay and what you appreciate.

One well behaved dog allowed on the ground floor.

Everything in it was brand new from crockery to the finest linen.
Complimentary to the old cottage is the time we have taken to recreate its past, with a nod to millworkers homes from days gone by with vintage furniture, paintings, and decor.
Triple glazed windows keep the cottage quite as a main road is nearby.

On Hopping Hill in the middle of this traditional old village of stone cottages, we have found everyone to be very friendly.
This is one of the only airbnb’s in the area so you won’t be in a tourist trap, but able to join what’s available in and around a lovely Derbyshire village.
The people who live here seem very proud of their homes and welcome visitors to the lane, they love to tell us if they meet you.

Amazing walks and quite outstanding pubs and restaurants a short walk away notably :
The Palfrey (100 yards)
The King William ( 250 yards)
The Elephant and Peacock ( 500 yards)
The Hollybush at Makeney ( 1/2 mile)

Buses outside every ten minutes

Belper voted best town in UK 2 years in last 3, is two miles away.

We get asked a lot about Paddleboarding:

Milford to Darley Abbey is a great stretch of the River Derwent at around 7 miles. There are several weirs on this section and paddlers must ensure they have checked river levels and inspected weirs before they run this section. Any water sports at your own risk from opposite the cottage.
