This place was incredible for the view! So romantic for us, and a wonderful way to enjoy Matera. Right in the old town, also so close to the old cave dwellings and not far at all to the new town. The host was very warm and friendly, despite the language barrier - she had no English, and I no Italian, but we communicated in French, and gestures. Just be warned which apartment you are actually getting, the pictures are a mix, and don't show the apartment well at all. Also, the bathroom is not in a separate room, more like a cubicle within the room. Better be comfortable with your roommate!!

Grazie!

I loved this typical Matera home situated on the corner of Piazza Duomo. It has lovely old tile floors, a large open space and a couple of steps up to a very atmospheric kitchen which is full of lovely old things as well as being fully functional. Patrizia made sure there was plenty of breakfast foods, fresh fruit and yoghurts, and was quick to come to my rescue on the morning of my departure when I needed a hacksaw to open the lock on my suitcase. Her home is on the same vicinato or courtyard.

What a spot! The apartment is off a pretty courtyard with an arch leading into Piazza Duomo, from where you have a panoramic view over Matera. Lovely. We enjoyed Patrizia's apartment and really appreciated all the provisions she left, including fruit, breakfast and other staples. The bed was really comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. Patrizia was really friendly and we enjoyed meeting her.
