The space

Stay in this private, secluded 975-square foot second-story bonus room that features a bedroom, kitchen and full bathroom. The room, nestled in the redwoods, has a separate, private entrance from the main house just outside of the Eureka area in Northern California. Wireless internet included. Netflix included. Bedroom has a king bed. Main room has a twin hide-a-bed couch and a futon. Kid-friendly. Portable crib included. Main room also has a console piano and two additional couches. We also have an air mattress on site as a tribute to the company's origins.

Room best suited for quiet getaways or family getaways. House is situated at the end of a private road that includes only two houses. There is an old logging trail on the property that will take you to a half-mile hike in the forest. We have had a couple guests who found our place to be too secluded and a couple others who found it to be too close to town. We like to think it is the perfect combination! Since we are on a private road, we require guests to drive slowly on it (under 10 mph) to avoid wildlife and children who live on the property.

The private "apartment-style" bonus room is accessible by a flight of stairs and is situated above the garage, making for great sound separation from the main house. (Parents with babies can rest assured that their little ones can make whatever noise they need to, and it will not disturb us.)

About 10 minutes to downtown Eureka which features many fine-dining establishments. About 30 to 60 minutes from many state and national parks. It's only a 16-minute drive to Humboldt State University.

Many travelers use our place as a "pit stop" between two faraway places, such as going from San Francisco to Seattle. But for those who are coming for the redwoods, one or two nights can be woefully inadequate. There are just too many great places to see (Fern Canyon, Lady Bird Johnson Grove, Prairie Creek State Park, Patrick's Point State Park, Avenue of the Giants - to name a few). Friday or Saturday night stays have a 2-night minimum.

Room offers a family-oriented DVD library and a Stairmaster for those who need to get in that daily workout. There is limited cable (major networks and ESPN) for the TV, as well as Netflix. Kitchen includes microwave, range, full-size refrigerator, dishes, utensils and cookware. Exterior of house includes a half-court basketball area.

No smokers and no smoking allowed of any kind on the property or our neighbor's property.

No pets of any kind on the property.

Wifi cannot be used for illegal downloads during your stay.

Extra charge for more than three people age 16 or older ($10 per night for person #4, $20 per night for person #5, $30 per night for person #6 and $40 per night for person #7).

There is a picnic area near the entrance with a picnic table. There is also access to a table-top gas barbecue during the summer months.

We enjoy checking in guests and being available to answer questions about area attractions and restaurants. After that, we mostly leave you to yourselves unless you send us a text.

It is very quiet. Except for some weekend nights in the summer! An area fairgrounds has stock car racing in the evening hours on some Saturdays in the summer and fall. Remaining dates for racing: Sept. 10 and Sept. 24.

You will need your own transportation as we are off the beaten path. Guests with motorcycles: The private road from the main street is mostly gravel. It's about 300 yards to the house on the private road.

We had a fantastic stay in the Redwoods! Tom welcomed us to the apartment late in the evening and it had pretty much everything you'd ever need - and lots of extras that you might have forgotten too! Can't recommend it highly enough. Also it's just a short drive to the attraction…

The space at Tom's was peaceful and comfortable. There's a well equipped kitchen and really comfy sleeping arrangements. It's super quiet and great for exploring the redwoods. Tom welcomed us on arrival and left detailed instructions, including local recommendations.

This is one of our very best AirBnB experiences. Very large, modern, clean, and private condo type with private entrance, a full kitchen, piano, cable, Netflix, and personal DVD library. We have stayed here before and will return. Tom is a great host.

The wife and I have stayed at Tom's place 4 times in the last few years. It is our prefered place in the Eureka area. The space is always spotless, warm and inviting. The view out the windows at the redwoods feels like you are in a redwood forest. It is 10 to 15 minutes to both E…

This was our second stay at Tom's place. We previously were here couple of years ago, and liked it so much that we decided to come back. The place was just the same, nice and serene in the woods.

Born and raised in the Detroit area, I made the trek to California in the 1970s. I landed at Humboldt State in 1979 and have never left, falling in love with the redwoods and ocean. My wife Lisa was born and raised in Humboldt County.
