When our original booking for August didn't go as planned (due to a mess up at our end), Hugo was extremely understanding and did his best to resolve the situation in a fair and straight forward manner.
We ended up rearranging our trip for the UK October half term, and had a warm welcome from Maria on our arrival.
The Villa is located slightly off the beaten track around 15mins drive from Albufeira, but is really easy to find - there is basically one road running north/south between Albufeira/Paderne, so there is easy access to the surrounding towns/shopping centre/beaches.
Hugo and Maria were very responsive with any requests/enquiries, and they had some great suggestions for places to eat.
We loved the wine shop/restaurant that is Veneza, and also the Mato a Vista was excellent (so good we went twice!) - great Portuguese country cooking. It was only a 10/15 min walk from the house too.
Unfortunately, we were on the receiving end of unusually poor weather, including a long night of thunder, lighting and a powercut. Luckily, there were night-lights to hand, and thankfully the mobile wifi router was charged and still worked. We ended up lighting the log fire - a new experience in our long history of visiting the Algarve! The power was eventually restored.
When the sun was out, the poolside and surrounding gardens were idyllic, and the bbq area was brilliant to use. The kids loved exploring the garden and it many different areas and trees.
The close-by village of Alte is well worth a visit with it's natural pool and picturesque houses, and we also visited the Castle in Paderne, which although officially closed, with a bit of adventurous spirit one is still able to explore inside!
All in all this is a great base for a self catering holiday in the Algarve, and would definitely recommend it.
