MJ and his Mother are nice people, and the location is about 12 minutes walking to the New York Subway line L. Easy to go and come. There are restaurants, supermarket and laundry next by the local.

Well located near a metro station, in a very hipster style area with great restaurants and bio store. The room is what it is, as pictures. It's a perfect location for someone on the go! Host is nice and kind, helped me as best as he could and pointed me in the right directions whenever I had questions. Thank you MJ! :)

Very helpful and accomodating host! The location is also very convenient! Only issues are (most of them mentioned in previous reviews): absence of locker in the shower, there is a smell in the apartment (and more generally in the building), I only found one socket (with one extension) which was not very convenient to charge devices close to the bed.

I stayed at MJ’s place with my boyfriend and a friend for more than a week. MJ’s apartment is located 4-5 blocks from the nearest subway station and the busy part of Troutman street, thus its location is excellent. MJ was very helpful before our arrival and greeted us kindly once we arrived. In our room there was a double bed, a single bed, a TV and an open wardrobe for clothes which was not very clean. Also, the single bed was not very comfortable to sleep on. The problem is that he himself and his mother are actually sleeping in the living room that we had to cross every time when entering the apartment and going to our room. Once we woke up at 3 a.m. because MJ was shouting for about half an hour with his brother who is also a resident of the same apartment. Another time, we woke up about the same time in the morning because someone was violently throwing up in the bathroom (adjacent to our room). Another unpleasant thing was that we noticed someone had moved our things around while we were away. We tested this on purpose after we became suspicious. Occasionally our room smelled of cigarette smoke, which made us think that someone had used our room - that had a window overlooking the backyard - to smoke. We didn’t have access to the kitchen, but this didn’t come as a surprise, we knew it beforehand. The bathroom was clean but we had to ask for toilet paper several times (it would have been easier to put out several rolls, I guess). When 2 other Airbnb guests arrived, getting into the bathroom became harder (the 3 of us, the 2 other girls, MJ, his mom, his brother, and we suppose 1 another person, so 8 or 9 people all using 1 bathroom). To sum it up, the 3 of us think that MJ’s place is perfectly located close to a hip area of Brooklyn, and is conveniently close to the L train Jefferson Street station. However, the living conditions in the apartment can make your stay less pleasant (people sleeping in the hallway/living room etc.). This flat can be a good choice if all you need is a shower with hot water and a bed to sleep in. MJ could make his place more valuable by paying a bit more attention to its cleanliness (dust on shelves and on TV), some new sheets and blankets and if guests had access to the kitchen just to be able to make coffee or boil water.

Response from Mj:
Hostels where total strangers have to share a room more than 9 at a time charge 2x more than u pay. Every negative feedback I have received about this place never mention the price. Although I appreciate ur valuable feedback you get what you pay for. This place is not a hotel it's budget living for thrify people. If that bothers you you can always cancel and find another listing. But if you find one that is less than here I will pay myself!

Mj is a great host and would really make this place worth staying. Super responsive and treats you with utmost respect when you talk to him. Very funny guy and it was unfortunate that we did not get to interact with him very much. His brother who checked us in is also very friendly and helpful. However, my friends and I had to rebook to another AirBnB after less than a day because the room was just not what we expected. He was very nice about it and didn't ask any questions. As Mj emphasized with me, you get what you pay for but it's hard to guage from the listing just how it is. It's a little better than a hostel since you get a good sized and the bed was comfy but the couch was not. You get towels and linens which wasn't listed but you might have to bring your own soap/shampoo. Super fast wifi! Make sure you just ask him everything you can think of to double check as he can takes recommendations into account. I poured over reviews to make sure this is what we wanted but it still ended up not being a fit so here are some things that you can't get from the listing to help others : 1. The biggest problem for us was the cigarette smoke smell in the apartment. The room was listed as non-smoking but someone smoked in it because we found a cigarette butt on the windowsill and the smell was pungent enough to make it hard to breathe and give us headaches. We are non-smokers so it was really uncomfortable and airing out the room did not help. It looks like Mj imposed a smoking ban back in 2015 so there could be lingering smells. There was also another musky smell but I think that is okay for price. 2. His family was there while we stayed. Normally not a problem but it was a really small apartment and you had 2 people sleeping on the living room couches, and possibly 3 others in other rooms plus my group of 3. This makes using the bathroom when you want to a difficult especially in the morning when someone is taking a really long shower. I ended up never using the bathroom because I couldn't tell if there was someone there or not. We were up at 6am and it was in use already. I think it was clean though since my friends used it. 3. Noise. For our short stay on a Sunday, it was not quiet until after midnight. The TV was on the whole time and people were talking excitedly in the evening which is okay but just not what we wanted. Because the apartment is really small, you could pretty much hear everything. The people upstairs were also walking around a lot or something nonstop for a while. The room is right next to the bathroom too. 4. Cat. He has a cute...

It was a great location for the place I need to head to. The place is about 10 minutes walk from the train station & about another 10 minutes walk to the place I need to head out to daily during the stay. The room is spacious & can easily fit in 2 people. The family was nice and friendly. Prior to the last day of my stay there, I ended up with a bunch of stuff to carry back home. MJ came out to help me carried them into the house & the day I was leaving he helped me carried them out of the house. Overall, it was a great place & I had a nice time there. The only downside is I wish there was toilet paper. At time, I needed to use bathroom but there was no toilet paper. I could be using at the wrong time. I do wish they got hand soap to wash hands at the sink. Overall, a great place to stay & I highly recommend it.
