Walk to beach and 3rd street promenade. Private bedroom with huge memory foam California King mattress. Large dining room table and full kitchen. Sectional sofa which can sleep 2 and/or air mattress available. 2nd bedroom occupied by host.

The space

This is a great apartment walking distance from everything great about Santa Monica. 4 blocks to the beach, 5 blocks to Santa Monica Pier, 3 blocks to main street, you can see the start of 3rd street promenade and Santa Monica place from the window. 5 minute walk to movie theaters, many restaurants etc. Free shuttle to and from hotel next door is often available, and there are taxis nearby, Uber and Lyft are almost always a minute or two away.

This is a real home that a real family lives in. We clean the unit meticulously and hire professional cleaners to make sure everything is here for your stay to be pleasant, but this is not a hotel room and it is not a unit just set up for Airbnb, we live here. Please understand that though the place is very clean and inviting, our personal items are in the our place and you are a guest in our home. The up side of this is there is a fully appointed kitchen with everything you would ever want, not just the basics, and a dining room table that we made by hand that can seat 10 no problem. Two giant TVs and every premium channel available, but the book shelves have real books in them, and there is only one empty dresser for you to use, the other drawers have our stuff in them because we live here. We are mentioning this because some people seem to expect a hotel room with nothing in it, and that is not what you will find here.

Guest access

You can use the entire apartment, kitchen, living room and dining room area. There is a piano you are free to play (please be respectful of the neighbors and don't play late). There is one bathroom in the apartment, so it is shared if the host is staying in the second bedroom, we will of course attempt to work with you to make sure you have access when you need it. The host has a flexible schedule and can work around your requests. Please note it is illegal to rent the entire space in Santa Monica, so we always have the second bedroom for our use, please check with our schedule to know how much we will be there or not be there during your stay. We ask that you be respectful of our home and our possessions, feel free to use anything that you find here and leave it in as good of shape as you found it in.

Interaction with guests

Someone may be here staying in the second bedroom to be available if you need anything, and they will let you be unless you need something. You can text or call if we are not handy and we will take care of anything you need. Please feel free to ask any questions.

Other things to note

We have a dog and a cat, though the dog and/or cat may or may not not be here during your stay (we often take both of them with us when some members of the family are off traveling and the unit is available), we want you to be aware if you are allergic. The dog is a gentle giant, and very friendly and well trained. The cat will likely stay in the bedroom and usually you will not see her much. This is a second floor unit, so you need to be able to climb stairs. The California king bed has drawers under it, and as such it is high off the ground, so you should be able to climb up to the bed which is around 36" off the floor (waist high). There is only one bathroom in the unit. The dish washer is a portable unit that needs to be plugged into the sink to use it, feel free to ask for the details if you want to run a load in the dishwasher. Feel free to leave a load of dishes dirty in the dishwasher and we will run it when we get a chance. Some guests have said they did not like the noise in our neighborhood, we love the place and the noise is part of the city, but I wanted to let guests know especially when it is hot and nice to have the windows open that this is in the heart of the city and it is not a quiet area, if you are sensitive to noise this might be a problem. There is no A/C in the bedroom, opening the windows gives a nice ocean breeze it is on the corner of the building and quite comfortable even when it is hot out, there is a portable A/C unit in the living room.

No Smoking in the apartment, or near any of the doors of other apartments. You can walk out into the parking lot more than 15 feet from any door or window and smoke if you like, this is a local law and common courtesy. You can park 1 car in the communal parking for the building which is not a reserved space, and there is easy street parking for more just in front. You understand there is only one California king size permanent bed available, and that extra sleeping arrangements beyond that are on a couch and/or an air mattress in the living room area. You understand there is a second bedroom in the unit which will possibly be occupied by the hosts during your stay, and that we have a dog and a cat and an aquarium, and the dog and cat may or may not be home during your stay (if the pets are home someone will be there to take care of them). Please do not hold parties or gatherings in our space, reasonable non overnight guests are no problem. We do have a security system and cameras monitoring the property. You understand that the unit is in the middle of downtown and this is not a quiet city or area and there is traffic and business noise. There is no A/C in the bedroom, if it is hot out you may need to open the windows and it may be noisy.

Inside much nicer than the building presents. Security cameras a plus. Loved the space. Super comfy bed. Nice cool breeze. Forgot host was there. Very pleasant stay and fully equipped. Much better than staying at a hotel. Would definitely go again. Great place for our girls weekend vacation.

This is a great place to stay. Close to the beach/pier! Helpful hosts, available at all times. Nobody was home while we stayed there, so we got the whole appartment to ourselves. It is close to the road and there can be some noise. Also, the bedroom got very cold at night when we stayed there.

I wish you had mentioned you were cold in the bedroom while you were there. I guess you did not notice there is a heater in the bedroom that will keep it as warm as you wish in addition to the heaters for the whole apartment. The listing clearly states (and it is in the house rules you must agree to) that this is a unit in a city near roads and there is city noise, most people do not mind it (we do not notice it any more), but we added those warnings for people who are very sensitive to noise so they would not be surprised as one other guest had mentioned they were surprised by the local noise level. This is part of being right in the middle of the action of the city and we love how close everything is and how easy it is to get on and off the freeway.

This apartment is literally in the rear parking lot of doubletree hotel, which was perfect for my conference. Despite the description of being next to the freeway, it's just a ramp and I barely noticed any noise. The living room faces east, so the bonus was there were no buildings blocking the sun rise either. It was a fantastic place to come home to. The hosts offered their assistance, but everything was great and I didn't need them. The other conference attendees were jealous of my location and rate, so thanks again!

Just finished my stay at Michael's. I was there for a month. The apartment is in a safe location and literally walking distance to everything which was great. Only a 10min walk to the pier and a 5min walk to the start of the promenade and the metro station. Bike lanes are only one block west. Would stay again!
