Interaction with guests
Hosts are in and out during the day, but usually nearby to provide assistance if needed. We're happy to provide as much or as little advice as you like!
Other things to note
Kitchen is available, but best to stick with simple fare on stovetop and microwave. No dishwasher; promp cleanup requested. Washer and dryer are available although you may have to wait a bit. Water heater capacity is limited; please take short showers! Screened, louver style windows keep room and house comfortable; no air conditioning, but the room usually catches a nice breeze, and comes with a fan. It's a large, social house with host family and other guests; you'll have great conversations! Separate entrance from rest of house, also connects to kitchen. (Although you are welcome to use the main entrance if you like.) Room is across the porch from host family rooms; loud noise will carry. You are asked to remove shoes at entrance, and use slippers (provided) or stocking feet in the room and common area (bare feet also okay). Beautiful songbird melodies start at dawn, gently encouraging you to wake up and begin your day.
Absolutely no smoking (including e-cigs/vape), and no drugs on premises. If you drink, we expect you to do so in moderation. No lighted candles or other flame. Guests need to be considerate of other guests and host family. Older, quiet neighborhood, so no loud music or raucous behavior. No pets. No unregistered guests in your room. Quiet time is 10pm to 7am. If you go out and leave your vehicle in the driveway, you will also need to leave the key. Please let us know if you plan to come back after 10:30 at night.

I'm from Japan and my husband is from South Carolina. Hawaii is about halfway, so it's perfect for our family. Japan, the Old South, and Hawaii all have their own hospitality traditions, but our home is one of the few places you can experience all three in one place! We look forward to meeting you, and sharing what we feel is special about Honolulu and the island of Oahu.
