Description

The space

The house has an open space concept. The bedroom area is equiped with double bed and big windows facing the breathtaking view of the ocean and green fields. Little gem to enjoy privacy surrounded by nature and perfect place to disconnect and spend some time relaxed. Bed linen, towels, kitchen towel, dish detergent and shower gel are provided.

There is no TV or wifi as the signal is unreliable, but you have books in several languages, board games and play cards for your entertainment, not to mention the simple pleasure of watching the sea and the fishing boats that are around every morning.

Kitchen has a gas stove with two burners, fridge, all necessary kitchenware as well as Italian coffee maker, coffee, tea, salt, sugar, some olive oil, vinegar and some spices needed to prepare simple meals and ensure a confortable stay.

As it is powered with solar energy, there is no microwave, oven, washing machine or dishwasher in a house. The living room is equiped with a fireplace (a bucket of wood and a pack of fire tablets are provided upon the arrival), it also have some board games and binoculars for your entertainment!

Outside you've got BBQ, bench for lunches and couple chaise-louge for a relaxed afternoon nap.

Guest access

Guest have an access to all the house and surrounding area without any restrictions.

Interaction with guests

as much or as little as you want.

The neighbourhood

If you really want to enjoy your experience in cliff house and bring back some nice memories below you can find some tips. But most of all we would recommend....

….Have a luch/dinner at ¨El Catalín¨restaurant, have a drink in ¨Soda 917¨, take a guide bike/hiking trip with Javier and make your own jewelry from Azabache at our neighborn´s Begoña house.

SHOPPING

Even though there are small shops in Tazones (very overpriced) and Argüero, the best way to do shopping is in Villaviciosa as there you can find all the services and the supermarkets don´t close for siesta.

Supermarkets Alimerka and Mercadona (open Monday to Saturday from 9 to 21.15)

Mercado de Abastos (next to city hall). Fruits, vegetables, meat and fish from local producers (most busy on Wednesdays). There is also a natural organic milk machine (recommended to take a bottle with you or you can buy one from a machine for 50c).

Panadería La Portalina

Traditional bakery

Confitería Viena

Place for sweet lovers

Los Caserinos

Cow farm store that make their own cheeses, rice with milk, yoghurts....

Rural House El Gobernador
Apart from renting appartments, they are also growing their own produce where you can buy seasonal fruits, vegetables and eggs.

Cockteleria Soda 917

An unexpected place to grab a drink after dinner, especially in winter in front of a fire place with Ella Fitzgerald playing in a background. Located on the crossroad of VV5 and AS256, very close to Apartamentos El Gobernador.

RESTAURANTS

In the area as well as Asturias regions there is infinite amount of restaurants and places to eat. That makes it very hard to recommend something having in mind difference in taste and expectations. However, below we recommend few places where we go to eat ourselves.

Restaurante El Catalín.

One of the most popular places in the area. Cachopos, sea food, day menu of very good quality and price ratio. As it´s quite busy, we´de recommend to give a call before to make sure they are open and to make a reservation. During lunch time and on Sundays it´s basically impossible to get a table without reservation.
Tel. +
It´s close to Tazones fisherman village on VV5 road in Talaya village. You will see the indications.

Restaurante La Playa in Tazones

That´s the only one that we would recommend in Tazones which is very touristic area and most of the restaurants rely on that more than on quality of the food.

Restaurante El Verano

Located close to Argüero, it´s the most reputed one. The fish dishes are perfect, however, we find it to be a bit expensive, but if you don´t mind paying anextra for quality, then it´s a place to go.
.
Bar El Quincho

Closest one to the house, you can´t miss it either entering or leaving Oles. Very basic and homemade food, but as the kichen is always open so it´s handy if you want to grab something to eat or a drink. They also have their homemade natural cider.

Restaurante La Llosa

restaurant close to house. Quite an opposite from el Quicho. If you want to try Asturian cuisine with more sophisticated touch, then that´s a place to go with very nice owners as well.

Restaurante Los Llaureles (Torazo)

This is for more gourmet dinner and not a traditional kitchen. Degustation menu, open only on the weekends and only with reservation. Works well with close by Spa de Torazo for a cold and rainy day.

Sidreria La Ballera.

A cider place that goes back to the old days. Very lively and traditional. Razorshells, clamps, mussels and steak on hot stones are probably the best in area.

BEACHES

There are few of them in the area, so we just start from closest to most far one.

Playa Merón (15 minutes) Stone and sand (only stone with high sea). The most quite and unknown in the area. The little beach where only locals go.

Playa España (20 minutes) Sand. Very good for swimming and surfing. There is also a beach bar (summer season only) with restaurant and live music on the weekends.

Playa Rodiles. (40 minutes) The biggest and most well known, which is good for swimming and especially known for surfing. Even though its very close to the house on a shoreline, the road towards it makes a very big detour. Warning: In high season its very popular beach with loads of traffic jams that might be as long as 20km and the bottleneck can even reach the highway.

SIGHSEEING AND TREKKING

OLES

both the windmill road and Azabache mining road in Tazones are very nice to visit, but the road marking is not the best. What we would recommend doing is having a guided walking or bike tour for which you can use STASS company in Oles. For our clients they have suggested the following trips - Azabache mines, cliffs and wind mills Mina de azabache, acantilados, molinos (2 hours - Siera cliff and bay (2 hours)
Both trips can be done either by walking or bikes and it costs 35euros for 2 people. Contact numb Javier

If you´re willing to know more about Azabache, what can be done with it, how it is extracted and even make your own peace of jewelry, call Begoña at +. She lives next to a house.

Tazones

the fisherman village located 4km from the house with loads of restaurants and an finishes with sand beach (which dissapears with high sea). You can also buy fresh sea food in the port, in a place is is called CETAREA (storage place for live sea food) or directly from the boats (during weekdays when the boats get back to port, usually around 10-11am. Cash only).

Lastres.

Similar fisherman village to Tazones with coble stone streets. Its definitely worth to go up till El Mirador (lookout).

Iglesia de San Salvador y Monasterio de Valdedios (c.IX and c.XII)

Authentic jewels of preromanic Asturias (from the sister order)

Faro de Luces

Lighthouse located on a cliff close to Lastres with excellent views over the coast. (though you have it already from the house :) )

Ruta del Azabache

Hinking that you can start from the house and it actually starts from the church in Oles. If you are interested in azabache ( jet stone which is half precious stone found in the area, you can ask around for Begoña that makes jewelry from it (she actually lives next door).

Ruta de hayedo de la biescona

Beech wood in mountain area from which you can get probably best views of the Asturian coast (mirador del Fito)

If you want to visit or hike some areas a bit more far from the house, we´d recommend Parque Nacional de los Picos de Europa, Somiedo or Parque Natural de Redes.

Ruta del Cares (P.N Picos de Europa Probably one of the most spectacular of Asturias with massive coombs (22 kms to go and come back). If you want to make only one way, you´ll need a taxi.

If you´re searching for some adventure activities (canyoning, rafting, bungy jumping, ATV and more), the best place for it is in Arriondas. There are many companies organizing these type of activities and they are all quite similar so we can´t recommend anyone in particular.

OTHER ACTIVITIES (also possible to do with kids)

In Oles, just next to Bar el Quincho there is a bike rental that also does guided bike tours. (Stass)
Dinosaur foot prints that starts from playa de la Griega (Colunga) and Jurasic museum (MUJA) is a good family activity.
Next to the Faro de Luces you can do some horseback riding along the coast.
If you are interested in artisanal azabache jewelry, dont forget to visit Begoña, our neighbour from the house with black gates. She can offer you some handmade jewerly which might be nice to bring back as presents and tell you more about Azabache history.

Getting around

A car is a must as public transport is not the best option.

Other things to note

As the house is powered with solar panels, there is no microwave and washing machine.

I just came back from four nights here, I went up there with just my dog and numerous books for company. It was supposed to be three nights but I stayed an extra day, I loved it so much. Everything was just perfect. The location is spectacular, what a treat to wake up and see the fishing boat lights twinkling out at sea through the windows at the end of the bed. I slept better here than I have done in a long time. The area is beautiful, with unspoilt beaches, lovely walks and pretty fishing villages very close by. The place has everything you need if you want to go and disconnect from the outside world. It is extremely cosy and with the wood burner going it's even toastier!! Hector was great, he was waiting for me when I arrived on a very rainy Friday night and he had already set the fire away for me. He explained everything I needed to know in great detail and had already forwarded me information on the workings of the house and what to see in the local area. He was also extremely quick to respond when I had a problem with the power supply in the middle of the night .. within an hour everything was up and running again. Can't recommend this place enough. Just enjoy!!

A dream coastal cottage; absolutely perfect for zoning out, enjoying coastal walks, pink skies and sea dips! Recommendations from Hector were spot on as was he! Memorable moments were aplenty. Thank you for sharing this special hideaway with others =) Don't hesitate, just book!

A very pleasant experience at an unique place. Issues with the hot water where fixed immediately and we were always encouraged to stay in touch during our stay and ask any questions we've got. Would come again.

OK, where to begin ? Hector's patience & willingness to find us when we went to the wrong petrol station for our rendezvous ... his invaluable local advice on places to eat & drink ... or the fact that everything was exactly as promised? Forget that last bit - it was even better than expected ! The stunning views that we never tired of; a different sunset for every one of our 6 evenings here; exploring the large rock pool at the bottom of the cliff via a 'Famous Five' type bushwalk; major decisions as to which way to face our sunbeds to enjoy another book; lying out on the very same sunbeds at night watching the impressive night sky to the soundtrack of crashing waves; and yes - the pure heavenly bliss of no internet or TV!! We rarely ventured from this little paradise, but it was handy having decent supermarkets in Villaviciosa (but not on a Sunday!) to keep the G&T ice levels topped up. Fantastic sandy surfers' beach at nearby Playa de España (I'd skip Playa Meron as it's just rocks) with a fab hillside chillout bar overlooking the bay. We are so glad that our first week was spent exploring other parts of beautiful Asturias, leaving us the second one to unwind completely in what has to be our best experience of Airbnb to date. Muchas gracias Hector & seguro que repitiéremos!

Super awesome cottage on the very edge of a cliff overlooking the water. The location is remote but perfect for a getaway. Hector was amazing. He met us off the main road so we knew exactly how to get there. He also made some recommendations on restaurants and gorgeous sites to visit. He even left a basket of fruit, which was welcome site after our travels! We would stay here again.

Hector + Agnė User ProfileHector + Agnė is a superhost.

We are Spanish and Lithuanian couple that met in Montreal and we both have travelled a lot around the world and lives in different countries and have decided to settle down in the natural paradise of sea and mountains of Asturias, that's where Hector is from.

Having travelled so much we came to appreciate the incredible beauty and solitude that nature has to offer and that's the purpose of our houses. Each is unique and offers incredible views. We have two houses on a cliff in Oles village with direct sea views from the bedroom, one house in Cueva beach and two isolated houses in Peñamayor in Nava region where you see nothing but mountains and forest and hear cow bells. 4 out of 5 houses are powered by solar panels and they all get water from natural spring sources. They are not made for those who want full on city comfort, but rather for those searching solitude and wanting to escape from every day noise and technology and immerse in the beauty of nature. You will find everything that you need for comfortable stay and all of the houses have fireplaces to enjoy the warmth and coziness in the evenings.
We believe in the simplicity of life and the beauty of nature and that's what we aim to offer.
