DETAILED DESCRIPTION

You can be exploring the North and West of Lewis with some of the best beaches in the world in less than an hour. Have a wander around the lighthouse at the Butt of Lewis, visit the jaw dropping sands of Uig, stroll through the Blackhouse village or visit the spectacular Callanish Standing Stones which are older than Stonehenge!

Stornoway is a great place to explore. The working harbour is so picturesque with Lews Castle overlooking the water. There are 270 hectares of lush castle gardens and grounds to explore. For a wee shopping trip there’s plenty of lovely local eateries and shops selling local gifts such as Harris Tweed. Drop into the Islander Shellfish to see what’s fresh off the boat to cook up that evening.

Go slightly further afield and explore Harris which makes up the south of the island and is separated only by the hills of North Harris. Here’s where you’ll find many sights including the spectacular Luskentyre Beach and the Isle of Harris distillery. Feeling more energetic? Then take on some epic hill walking on An Clisham, the highest peak in the Outer Hebrides!

Alternatively, hop on one of the many boat trips leaving from Stornoway, Miavaig, Tarbert or Leverburgh. There’s so much to do and see on both Lewis and Harris that you’ll want to be out exploring every day. Return from your daily adventures to your cosy croft house and unwind in the private wood fired hot-tub with hydro massage system or the dry Finnish sauna. Your host prepares the hot-tub for you each evening so that it’s ready and waiting upon your return.

There are lots of fantastic local walks if you fancy spending your days closer to home. Take the dog for a walk to visit the stunning Tiumpan lighthouse only a 25-minute walk away (4 min drive). Use the viewing area to search for whales, dolphins and porpoises. This is an official sighting spot for the Whale and Dolphin Conservation group! Watch the many nesting seabirds on the cliffs. On a clear day the mountains of mainland Scotland can be seen across the Minch (the body of water between the Western Isles and the Scottish mainland). You’re also a ten-minute walk from a lovely small beach. Explore the nearby coastal path which is accessed only a few minutes' walk away.

Create memorable evenings as a family or couple lounging in the private wood fired hot tub. The hot tub is under cover within the old stables so you can enjoy the steamy bubbles whatever the weather. Alternatively, spend rainy days or evenings in front of the huge log burner in the lounge watching Netflix, one of the many DVD’s or playing board games provided.

Fancy a night out? Use a local taxi service or nearby bus route to drop into Stornoway for a visit to one of the pubs and restaurants. Return to your croft house at the end of the evening to enjoy some well-earned relaxation.

Take the chance to experience the legendary Lewis summer sunsets and the beautiful Northern Lights in winter with some of the darkest night skies around. As the Western Isles is fortunate enough to be blessed with a micro-climate of its own, you are sheltered from some of the colder spells the rest of Scotland faces in the winter months.

Whatever you decide to do with your stay I expect you’ll fall in love with the Outer Hebrides. Once you do it never leaves you!

Scottish licencing is strict regarding guest occupancy limits for self catering properties which means that the number of people staying at the property must never exceed the guest limit, 6 in total (including children). Please ensure that the guest count is accurately reflected in your booking information. The only people permitted to stay at the house are the guests on the booking.

The house is situated over two floors with an open staircase from the lounge & there is unrestricted access to log burners therefore property may be unsuitable for infants, young children or those with restricted mobility.

Your host offers an optional daily complementary lighting service for the hot-tub, therefore please update by message with your estimated time of arrival.

For the rest of your stay, the hot-tub will be prepared for use from 5pm unless requested otherwise. If you prefer to use the hot-tub at a different time, just send your host a message who is happy work with your schedule to ensure it's ready at a time which suits your plans.

All the firewood required to heat up the hot-tub once each evening of your stay is included.

A starter pack of quality slow burning hard wood is provided for use of the lounge log burner. Only firewood with a moisture content of less than 20% can be used. Refills can be provided on request for £15 per basket or purchased locally.

A friendly & inquisitive border collie and 2 cats also live in properties within the grounds so please ensure any dogs are kept on lead at the front of the house/parking area. There is a large area of enclosed garden space for guests’ dogs at the side/rear of the house.

Guests are kindly requested to remain quiet in outside areas and hot-tub after 10pm out of respect for neighbours and in keeping with the quiet village location.

Sorry, no smoking.

Please arrange your travel at the same time as booking your accommodation. Ferry services to the island are available to Tarbert and Stornoway and are provided by Caledonian Macbrayne ferries. It is advised that you book in advance and at same time as accommodation is booked as the ferry can get fully booked during peak times.

Travel insurance is strongly recommended for your trip to the Islands. Sometimes the ferries and planes get weather bound or can’t travel due to technical issues. Usually, the next available ferry is within a day therefore it is best to make sure your plans are somewhat flexible a day either side.
