Dear airbnbers! We are introducing two new accommodations. A tipi (which is now listed) and a brand new two storey YURT! For those of you hoping to book our current yurt listing but didn't find date availability keep your eyes peeled for our new one going up very soon!

@thebuffalofarm Spring and summer yurt experience is one not to miss! There is nothing more lovely than waking up to the sound of birds chirping right outside your door. Take your morning coffee or tea down to the river cabana and watch the sun come up and sparkle over the lazy river. Jump into the river and swim about any swimming holes and sandy beaches close by. The river is extremely private and you will have it all to yourself ! You'll love swimming here! Our Spring and summer YURT experience is truly a unique one with many exciting and interesting activities to participate in.
If you are a photographer, hiker, fisher, swimming lover, painter, blogger or nature lover...this is the season for you! You will find yourself buried in beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
If you are interested in hiking we have several trail options for you! We have a combined 10 km of trails on site, taking you through woods, along the river, across fields of horses, cattle and bison. The EAU CLAIRE Gorge is located minutes from the farm and is a beautiful site at any time of the year. The water that falls over its face is flowing from Algonquin Park via the Amable Du Fond river which is the same river that the yurt sits on. Definitely worth checking out.

Maybe you want to just cozy up inside with a book and apple cider, board game, crafts or lay in bed and watch the clouds pass through the skylight. There is a wood stove that will keep you nice and warm throughout your fall season stay. You can make all kinds of fun WINTER treats on the wood stove including Warm apple cider, Hot chocolate, Herbal Teas etc!
We supply wood for both the campfire and wood stove. There is no electricity so anything you want to cook will be done on the campfire or wood stove. Get creative! This can be really fun. Pinterest is a great place to search for fun and creative things you can do without electricity!

There is a Cabana outside the yurt overlooking the river which is perfect for doing yoga or relaxing in the recliners, eating meals and reading books!
Secluded, rustic, cozy and picturesque!
Your WINTER YURT experience will be one that you won't forget.

Special Summer/Fall Experiences:

The Horse Sanctuary – The Buffalo Farm is a sanctuary for 14 rescued horses and is part of a local network that saves dozens of horses every year. You are invited to an intimate and guided interaction with our horses to meet them, hear their story, pet and groom them and ride them. This is a very special experience which our guests invariably love. Please contact us prior to your stay to Book a tour. For this, we ask for a minimum contribution of $30 per hour for the first person and $15 per hour for each additional adult, kids are free. These contributions will help us maintain or herd and help our network rescue and care for more horses.
"The horses were the true stars of this trip: getting to pet them, hear their stories from Javid, plus the girls getting to ride the largest one - those are memories that will last a lifetime."

Activities throughout the year:
(some on property - some nearby)
-Wildlife photography
-Maple syrup collection
- Yoga/meditation retreats

Guests have access to 700 acres on our property. There are a combined 10km of trails for guests to hike, snow shoe, cross country ski and more! This is a very remote and secluded location.

Ask us anything ! Hosts are on site and give you a walkie-talkie to communicate with them

As the weeks roll forward we are starting to warm up! However we have to depend on the wood stove to keep us warm and for cooking. We would like to make sure our guests are confident in tending to a fire. The yurt is setup for a few people with 1 bed but can easily be setup to accommodate 8 people with 4 beds.

A great couple of days spent at the Buffalo Farm! Such a simple but memorable time, filled with great stories, experiences, and breath taking scenery. To complete our stay we were able to check out the newest additions to the farm; 3 ten month old bisons! Would definitely recommend everyone to stay in this beautiful place.

Stayed at Yurt on Buffalo Farm in May with the wife. Where to begin, this was definitely a getaway from the routine city life, where you unwind with nature and your loved ones. We arrived to the farm and found the host. The property was very large and beautiful. The host greeted us and stated that the road to the Yurt is still rough and we will arrive via the tractor. It was a fun ride to the Yurt, which was a good opportunity to see the whole property. Arriving to the Yurt, the area was serene! It was river front, had a nice deck with chairs and a nice Bon fire area. Inside the Yurt, you have all the essentials including: pan, pot, wood burning stove, comfortable bed with cozy sheets, books, board games and some candles. The Yurt also had a in-suite compost toilet, which was convenient. During the day, we had a nice and relaxing experience on the property. We played some horse shoes, made a BBQ (on the Bon fire, which included a grill) and relaxed on the Muskoka chairs with the amazing view of the river (there is a deck to get down to water). As it had become darker, we prepared the Bon fire and also started the wood stove (the Yurt was very warm). Later into the evening we set up the candles around the Yurt, along with the ambience of the stars (truly an experience). We were lucky since the sky was clear and able to see the whole skylight. It was a romantic and peaceful night, where the true simplicity of nature allowed us to relax and focus on our harmony. Very cozy! We had stayed the night and woke up to see the sunrise. Had breakfast with the wood stove and enjoyed the view again. We previously arranged with the host to pick us up and see the horse sanction (the host provides a walkie talkie to communicate). The horse sanction was a blissful experience! They are rescued from the states, which are restored back to health and you get an experience up close to interact with them. Afterwords, we had an opportunity to see the baby bisons, which was nice to see as well. Overall, the yurt experience was a unique getaway. It's about getting away from the busy life and getting in touch with the outdoors. You and your loved ones will love it! Highly recommended and many thanks to the host for providing this getaway. Things to bring: -candles -battery powered lantern -water -wet wipes -significant other or friend -utensils -fire starter (if wood is damp) Thank you!

The Buffalo Farm was a fabulous experience! Us 4 ladies stayed here for my sisters Bachelorette and we could not have asked for a better time. We got a lovely tractor ride in as the road to the yurt was too muddy for our vehicle. The first night that we stayed, we saw a gorgeous young female moose, a massive beaver and a chipmunk. The following day, we visited the horses. Each horse has their own story and we were extremely intrigued by them. Mullin was my favourite and was quite the photogenic gentlemen. We then went to see the three 10-month old Bison that had just arrived on the farm. After we returned to our yurt, we got the pleasure of seeing the moose a few more times throughout the night. The cabana is beautiful to wake up to and sit and watch the river flow, with a nice warm cup of hot chocolate. Our host Javid was extremely friendly and accommodating! We have decided that we are definitely going to be coming back later in the year. Thanks again for the lovely stay!

Very warm welcome, good communication, very helpful. The yurt is really a unique experience, close to nature, we went in April, during a cold and humid period, but the yurt was really warm with the fire place, there is some water leakage due to the continuous rain, but Shara and her family helped us for everything we need. Unfortunately due to the weather we could not appreciate all the activities offered at the farm, but if we could, we would do it again to enjoy it more. Thanks for everything
