@thebuffalofarm Spring and summer yurt experience is one not to miss! There is nothing more lovely than waking up to the sound of birds chirping right outside your door. Take your morning coffee or tea down to the river cabana and watch the sun come up and sparkle over the lazy river. Jump into the river and swim about any swimming holes and sandy beaches close by. The river is extremely private and you will have it all to yourself ! You'll love swimming here! Our Spring and summer YURT experience is truly a unique one with many exciting and interesting activities to participate in.

If you are a photographer, hiker, fisher, swimming lover, painter, blogger or nature lover...this is the season for you! You will find yourself buried in beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
If you are interested in hiking we have several trail options for you! We have a combined 10 km of trails on site, taking you through woods, along the river, across fields of horses, cattle and bison. The EAU CLAIRE Gorge is located minutes from the farm and is a beautiful site at any time of the year. The water that falls over its face is flowing from Algonquin Park via the Amable Du Fond river which is the same river that the yurt sits on. Definitely worth checking out.

Maybe you want to just cozy up inside with a book and apple cider, board game, crafts or lay in bed and watch the clouds pass through the skylight. There is a wood stove that will keep you nice and warm throughout your fall season stay. You can make all kinds of fun WINTER treats on the wood stove including Warm apple cider, Hot chocolate, Herbal Teas etc!
We supply wood for both the campfire and wood stove. There is no electricity so anything you want to cook will be done on the campfire or wood stove. Get creative! This can be really fun. Pinterest is a great place to search for fun and creative things you can do without electricity!

There is a Cabana outside the yurt overlooking the river which is perfect for doing yoga or relaxing in the recliners, eating meals and reading books!
Secluded, rustic, cozy and picturesque!
Your WINTER YURT experience will be one that you won't forget.

Special Summer/Fall Experiences:

The Horse Sanctuary – The Buffalo Farm is a sanctuary for 14 rescued horses and is part of a local network that saves dozens of horses every year. You are invited to an intimate and guided interaction with our horses to meet them, hear their stories, pet and groom them. This is a very special experience which our guests invariably love. Please let us know upon arrival if you'd like to book a tour. As much as we'd like to show everyone the horses and spend time together, we are also a working farm from sunrise to sunset and there is the odd occasion where we might be busy and we might not be able to do the tour (rare circumstances )
For this, we ask for a minimum contribution of $30 per hour for the first person and $15 per hour for each additional adult, kids are free. These contributions will help us maintain our herd and help our network rescue and care for more horses.
"The horses were the true stars of this trip: getting to pet them, hear their stories from Javid, plus the girls getting to ride the largest one - those are memories that will last a lifetime."

As the weeks roll forward we are starting to warm up! However we have to depend on the wood stove to keep us warm and for cooking. We would like to make sure our guests are confident in tending to a fire. The yurt is setup for a few people with 1 bed but can easily be setup to accommodate 8 people with 4 beds.

After a few night of camping in Algonquin this was exactly what we needed. A nice warm yurt at night and freedom from the bugs. Very private. We were lucky enough to borrow floaties from Shara and enjoy the lazy river on the property.

My friend and I had a blast at this cozy handmade yurt. The screened in room was so relaxing to hang-out in. It was a great pleasure to see three teenage bison roaming the field.

This place is magical! We had a wonderful time despite some torrential rain, which limited our ability to partake in some of the activities that are available, but it is also the perfect place to cozy up with a book and a glass of wine. Also, when we arrived, we were presented with a basket of biscuits, a French press, water infused with mint and lemon - SO CHARMING!

My partner and I arrived for our mini honeymoon from Ottawa. After making the trek we arrived to a yurt full of leaks. They were prompt to provide us with extra towels and buckets. It had been a very wet year and we were told they cannot repair it due to bad weather. We also arrived to the picnic table covered with remnants of food (presumably from previous guests) of which I would have expected it to be cleaned. The water levels were so high that we could not canoe. I am no expert but the water was quite strong along the river bank bordering the yurt. There is also only one floatation on the dock. When you step onto it from the stairs, you sink into the water immediately. For the cost of the facilities, I would have expected that the area be cleaner and that the yurt be sound and repaired before a guest arrived. As a note, I have lived in Algonquin park for several months in my life and am experienced with minimal facilities. It is quite secluded, diverse in nature and the farm is run by kind well intentioned people. I believe we had a combination of bad timing with the weather and rushed management of the property.

My friend and I wanted to get out in the middle of nowhere and remove ourselves from technology and the hustle of everyday life in the city. We got what we asked for! Where I normally would have a very hard time without electricity, in this case, it was a blessing to really help remove ourselves. The yurt site felt very secluded and private which also made it very quiet and peaceful. We spent almost our entire time sitting by the fire and enjoying the peace and nature around us. Nighttime was amazing for stargazing! The yurt itself was very cute and a different way to 'camp'. It had that outdoorsy feel, but with comfort from home. That bed was AMAZING and we had such a hard time getting out of it in the mornings just enjoying the peacefulness of the sun coming in and hearing the birds outside. I was really impressed with how well stocked everything was, literally anything you could have felt you forgot, was there. Everything from pans, coffee & bodem, first aid supplies, bug spray, citronelle candles, Pam, etc. There was also a little selection of books, Scrabble, cards and a really adorable guest book that was really fun to read through. The only thing that was a bit of a disappointment was that there was no swimming access. We were right on the water and there were stairs going down but the dock was broken and the water had a constant light rapid running through. The beach in the photos is actually on the opposite side of the yurt. We ended up driving 15 minutes to the Samuel De Champlain park (which is free this year with the Canada 150 Park Pass) and had a great time there taking in some sun and water. All in all, a definite recommendation for a truly unique experience! Hosts were very kind, welcoming and accommodating.

Beautiful location, bed was heavenly, and the wood stove was welcome on our rainy day. Beware the bugs!
